    I hope the guards in this were alright. Looks like they had to be cut out judging the roof been cut off.

    Pics from a recent trip of mine.

    Some interesting facts about ES in Japan.

    1. They never drive fast when on a red light + siren run. Always very slowly, when cutting through red lights and junctions they literally slow to about 5mph.
    2. Police always have their red lights flashing when driving around. Cars dont move for them unless the siren is on. Its sort of like the orange lights on construction vehicles here.
    3. All vehicles have megaphones on them, and when on a siren run they politely ask road users to move out of the way, and thanks them when they do. So along with a 2 tone, and a Q horn, you also hear the person inside giving a running commetry of thank you's etc. It makes them very noisy.

    The below picture had a turn out of 6 fire trucks, 2 ambulances, and 1 police car. There was a lot of personel lingering by the rivers edge, not sure what happened and didnt want to hang around gawking and snapping shots of them.

    That Japan stuff is very interesting to read. I'd wonder are they actually busy much (Crime in Japan isn't really that big, is it?). I know they get very unlucky with regards to natural disasters and such, so they'd have their hands full helping with that, but for general day-to-day duties, I wonder what a Japanese Police Officer's life is like.

    Not sure if I posted this before;

    Garda Open Day in Drogheda today seemed to go down well with the locals, again.

    New to the display this year were the RSU, Bicycle, Crime Scene Presentations (that I didn't personally get to view, unfortunately) and showing off their 'redman' training gear (ie; letting kids beat lumps out of a Garda for a few minutes and get away with it! :P ).

    Spent most of my time at it pestering the RSU lads and the designated cyclist for the day. Spoke to most of the Gardaí that were present at some point or another though, and they all seemed to be in good form, so that's never a bad thing.

    Finally getting a decent chance to shoot the RSU Volvo was good, but typically enough, it was squashed off into a back corner with Garda tape wrapped on each wing mirror. Despite that, I did get to shoot the interior of it (though the photo wasn't great as the lens got soaked in a rain shower just beforehand and seemed kinda 'moist' or something all day since.

    Was surprised to find out that the RSU units generally have three cars each (so there's three based in Dundalk, for eaxmple). I didn't know that. I always thought it was just the one car per location, for some reason.

    Bicycle Garda was great though. Very easy guy to talk to and was very interesting to hear about the bicycle. I was always under the impression that, in order to use a Garda bicycle, you'd need to perhaps complete a basic competency test (cycle down a few steps, cycle a mile without stabilisers :P ) so I was surprised, and impressed, to find out more about the training involved, and how they're trained to use the bike as an apparatus for self-defence or to attack someone (and that they always dismount the bike on the opposite side of the person they're talking to/responding to/etc. so the bike is always between them).

    Was talking to him for a while and found it very interesting. Seeing as the bicycle is technically a vehicle of sorts, I'll slap a photo of it below, and leave it at that for now. I'll post up a few other shots tomorrow when I get a better chance to look at them again. They're all very snap-shotty, unfortunately, but such is the nature of an open day.

    Fair play to all involved in the Garda Open Day.
