Really Hooch? Spending your time infracting people? Do ye not have real criminals to be chasing!?

They pay your wages, pal! :pac:

    :D

Anyway, back to reality; I was out randomly walking/sliding about the town when the local Avensis passed by with the ould blues going. Wasn't expecting it and had the camera set for a bridge/shopping centre i was photographing, so got a bit of motion blur, unfortunately.

The blue lights really do a number on the camera sensor :(

On Drogheda Town today for the Annual Sleepout for the Homeless Aid (in short; a few of the local county council people, mostly, Mayor, etc. sleep out on the town overnight, with the aim being to raise money for the Drogheda Homeless Aid).

    Town will be well protected tonight, with those guys out there, I'm sure. As I'm sure the picture helps sum up;

    E15C6765D4114845B1EA281DA6B0B3CC-0000333410-0002672354-00800L-E91672264DF64C92B4E32009FC3B7024.jpg

Gardaí will try to maintain a lightning fast response time to that area through the night, I'd imagine.

Speaking of Gardaí, seen the bicycle out and about again. Fair play to the Garda on it (ironically never seen it used during the summer, but in the worst of weather conditions, the poor bastard is out on it). The bike would be fantastic in this town.

As someone who cycles around the place, It's rare that I'd be slower than a car (unless it's night time and the town is dead). Especially with such large footpaths and oddball and narrow laneways. Bicycle could be of great use.

Though that said, it always makes me nervous, as I completely disregard the rules of the road when I cycle (opting for a more sensible "try to avoid being killed" approach). Drogheda's not a cycle-friendly town at all.

Anyway, I seen the cyclist Garda when I was taking the above photo (was talking to him very briefly, too. Seems a very nice guy, and a boardsie too, so hello and thanks to you, if you come across this post) and I really must say, his uniform looked great.

His reflective jacket alone looks much better, and more practical, than the average Garda's. Didn't reach his waist at all, so he didn't look as rigid or stiff as most Gardaí tend to. The reflective strips along the bottom of the pants looked good, too. Not sure what the material of the pants are, but they look more industrial or something. Just overall a better look in my opinion (though I think our Gardaí look too friendly and formal, so I'm sure many will completely disagree with me).

Quick snapshot of St. John's Ambulance, too, which was parked up for a short while, too.

Fine looking machine, but I still prefer the S61.

An articulated truck slid on ice going around a bend in Drogheda and ended up on the footpath. Was there to see the Fire and vehicle rescue crews working together and the Gardaí watching over the scene, diverting traffic and dealing with an annoying photographer ( :P )

(Thankfully the driver of the truck wasn't seriously hurt. According to some of those at the scene, I'm lead to believe he hit his head, to the extent of a busted eyebrow, but nothing that could be too serious or likely to leave lasting damage at all. Trucks ending up on the footpath there is almost a common problem).

Only really spoke to the Gardaí at the scene very briefly at this (to ask if i could get the passenger side door open for a photo) and they were happy to help me out (the photograph of the car interior was their suggestion. Normally I wouldn't shoot the interior in case there are any personal belongings or such). Little bit of banter with some of the fire crew but found it very interesting watching them working away.

Found it particularly interesting to see that they towed the truck away with it's trailer still on (I assumed another truck cab would have appeared to take the trailer away). And as always, anyone I spoke to there was a joy to talk to. I really don't understand the 'hatred' some people have for those involved in the emergency services.

Considering the tough job (especially the tasks the Gardaí face), you'd think they'd have soured over time and grown to loathe the general public by now, but yet the vast majority of them are still down to earth, easy to talk to men and women. They really are genuine people. Fair play to them.
