The vehicles aren't always mounted with ANPR cameras but are used in conjunction with camera vans and fixed point ANPR cameras throughout the county of Essex in an 'intercept' capacity. The idea being that if a dodgy motor enters the county it will be flagged up and pulled, regardless of how high the spec is.

The team also use Evo 8s and are now moving to Evo Xs and are getting rid of the Surbarus below.

Interesting to see the Motorbicyclists using BMW R series machines.

Can any of our Cyclistes offer an informed opinion on the merits/demerits of the BMW stable in comparison to the Japanese offerings.

I have heard tales of frighteningly low gearbox life from BMW Bikes in Garda use but no confirmation of these is to hand

I have also noticed a certain less than comfortable look on some Gardai on the Yamahas FJR.
Any comments on this ?
And finally........Any opinions on that old stalwart..The Honda Pan European

I think the high cost of servicing and the high price of BMW parts convinced the Gardai to return to Jap bikes.

The FJR is a very comfortable bike to ride, all day. Maybe slightly less than the Pan European however.

The Honda Deauville is and always has been an ugly looking bike. No offence to any owners here. Its a cheap and cheerful 650cc tourer that will last forever.

I was delighted to see the Gardai getting the Yamaha FJR. Its one of my favourite bikes. Quite powerful for a tourer. Better acceleration than the Pan's and regarded as a sportier-tourer. Its also about 20kg lighter.
