More bad mobile phone photos. Does anyone know what type of damselflies these are? Also, is the last one a type of dragonfly or is it a damselfly, too?

Edit: I didn't look hard enough at the top three, and incorrectly identified them as Emerald Damsels, but they look more chunkier than Emeralds and are either female Beautiful Demoiselles or female Banded Demoiselles - sorry!! :(
The last one isn't a Dragonfly because it has antennae, and is probably a member of the Myrmeleontidae family.

Cooooool!! It is like a treasure hunt, only better! :) And scops owls sound to me like the warning house alarms give as you're getting out, 'BOOP! BOOP! BOOP!' (if you hear them from far away, but close up they sound quite different, they're incredible! I've heard them before alright, but I've never seen them).

I thought scops were more widespread in the area I was, only once I heard one close. I followed the call and saw it flying away from a tree 1meter away. I only confirmed the id later checking the shape of the bird in flight in my guide.

I love birdwatching at night by sound, I connect in a different way with nature, although it is very difficult to get any picture.

WP_20170701_13_44_22_Pro.jpgThe Nettle beds (one of three)
    WP_20170701_15_53_00_Pro.jpg Kale crop.
Update from the farm. Two calling male corncrake, one calling from May. I heard a hen corncrake calling chicks in June. Drumming snipe in the fen/hay meadow. Also had grasshopper warbler calling. The Chough sadly abandoned their nest (had two eggs). In the last week a flock of 15 twite frequently the area (kale crop), I think they are roosting the reeds in the fen by night. There was a survey of bumble bees and large numbers of endangered great yellow bumble bee and large carder bee present.

Can anyone tell what this is?
Spotted it in the Anne Valley walk in Dunhill Co.Waterford, it's about 7 to 8cm long and about 1cm thick

What type of fool am I?

Read on the Dodder Action Group site that they were having a Sunday photo day - with 'winners photos' being displayed in the hall in Herbert Park

So I went out yesterday and took loads of shots.. a long walk from Bushy Park down to O' Sheas pub

Only to discover it's next Sunday hahhahaha:eek:

Anyway - I think this is my favourite from my stroll

Came across this post on FB today, seems the tagged Marsh Harrier at Boora came from Holland!

Saw a record of a Marsh Harrier at Boora on Tuesday, so went over on Wednesday for a look.

A bit far away but first one to see there in ages. As per the record on Irish Birding, it's tagged too.

I know they're out of focus, and not that sharp at all - they look better on the mobile phone screen. I really must invest in a decent camera, even a small one...

Still, I was glad to find these "treasures". :)

    425692.jpg

These belong to a different grasshopper (or is it a locust?), at a later stage of growth.
