Being Short Vs Being Tall

Im 6.2 and im proud of it...the only disadvantage for being taller is that i more than likely will have back problems when im older and im a bit of an fool when playing soccer...legs are too long to play soccer skillfully but meh...ill still love playing soccer

my friend who is 6'5 and 18 stone has big trouble on planes too, even me at 5'11 barefoot can barely fit in economy class on some planes, they seem to be making the damn seats smaller every flight :mad:

i have met 7ft, 30-33 stone WWE wrestler Paul "big show" Wight a few times in person and how he copes with all the travelling involved in his job is beyond me, one time in NY i saw him attempting to get into a huge hummer limo and it was hilarious; on a plane i can only imagine, WWE fly all over the world to far flung places like australia, japan, UAE, Brazil and wrestle something like 300 days a year all across america, it must be a nightmare for him to fly.

I'm about 5'3 or 5'4, not sure which.. but short anyway, apparently. All of my friends are quite tall so the mockery never ends..

I actually quite like being short, it was (surprisingly) quite useful when I used to play basketball - could duck under the arms of the others who were scarily tall -> easy points for moi!

Used to have a major thing for really tall guys (still do tbh, I'm just not quite so picky now) which as one can imagine is amusingly awkward..

I was always one of the tallest in my school growing up, in da city ye know. As soon as I start to go to College an stuff all the D4 heads are giants compared to me. What is it? Better nutrition or do they give those Rugby School heads growth hormones.

I like Terry am 5'8(barefoot), I'd prefer to be another 2/3 inches taller but am am, what I am so.........

Exactly, there are pros and cons to each condition. Being in the middle, well I guess it means you don't get any of the pros or cons.
Think I'm in around the middle, possible the smaller end of it though.:o

Well, I'm 6'2'', and I know all you short people think "Oh, tall people have it easy" , but that's not the case.
Sure, women prefer us, we always get a good view at concerts, and our presence commands a certain respect, but there's many many downsides.

For example:

We really do have to mind our heads, wherever that sign is posted.

We're constantly harrased by old ladies in the supermarket, who want us to remove things from tall shelves.

It's hard for us to hide in crowds.

You know how you look out a plane, and everything seems tiny? Well, what may seem like a large apartment for a normal person, seems much smaller to a tall person, meaning we have to pay more for the same effect.

And when I was in China, I couldn't walk down the street without being stared at, like I was the elephant man. People even asked to take pictures. it did irreperable harm to my self esteem.

So, it's not all fun and games and seeing over walls, for us tall people. We have it hard too.

So spare us tall people a thought, next time you're fitting comfortably in your small fuel efficient car, and paying a low food bill as you need less nourishment than us, and remember, tall people are people too.

I'm 6'6, and I have to say, stop whinging. The only problem I have is the space on planes.

6'1 is tall... I'm 6' and my mates say i'm tall. In the next few years I can see 5'10'' - 6'1'' being the new average height and 6'2'' upward being the new tall

I don't mind being small but about the only real pro I can think of is the comfort in seats thing. Not all it's cracked up to be either.

im 5ft (female), but i think as a girl id prefer to be small than tall. though im not sure why cause theres plenty of disadvantages:

- can never see at gigs. EVER. even up on my toes.
- i cant reach stuff. why do certain shops put petite length trousers on the high rails? are you trying to tease us? or do you just want to laugh at us stretching & trying to reach?!
- normal trousers are always too long. i dont have one pair of trousers that doesnt drag on the ground
- "cropped length" trousers reach my ankles
- sometimes sitting on certain chairs my feet dont touch the ground. my ex used to have a great laugh at me for that
- if you get lost in a crowd its quite scary cause all you can see are peoples backs/chests
- you put on any weight whatsoever & it shows really easily cause theres less places for it to go
- edit: forgot to say that my legs are short so when walking with tall people ive to walk twice as fast to keep up with them!

i could keep going..

advantages
- as someone said, we fit better into hugs. i miss hugs dammit
- we can wear heels without worrying we'll be too tall
- we look cute??

there seems to be more disadvantages but i prefer being small

Haha being 6ft5 I have a thing for the smaller ladies also... not so much amusingly awkward as potential for huge amounts of entertainment

Raemie at 5ft10 your feet don't stay under the duvet??!! You need a bigger bed... superking all the way and my feet don't stick out the bottom of the duvet or over the end :P

I'm a slim 6'4 and in general quite happy with my stature. As a kid I was an easy target but once I learnt to laugh it off all was good.

The main irritations are...

-everything these days is designed to be 'accessible', which means low counters, low sinks, low handles etc etc. It's a pain in the back bending over for everything although granted, it's not exactly easy for a wheelchair user to get up out of their chair.

-Dublin Bus seat spacing on a good few of their previous generation buses was done for midgets. I blew a fuse once when someone asked me twice to move over - my legs took over most of the two seat spaces. The newest buses make me feel tiny downstairs! When standing in the 'upper saloon', I still have to bend my head sideways, my shoulder nearly touches the ceiling. I hate when there's a delay with people getting off, stuck like that for ages :-/

-decent clothes are hard to find. Either you're short and skinny or tall and fat. Small tees fit my frame better but end near my belly button :-/ Medium tees are too baggy.

-being told to stand up straight!

The view at concerts is a blessing and a curse. + you get to see everything, even from far back, - everyone behind you curses you for blocking their view, I always feel paranoid.

I've only been asked 2 or 3 times to reach for something in the supermarket. I've offered a few times, because rather than ask they were trying to climb the shelves!

It's very handy a lot of the time, you can scan an entire shop floor for you mates in most cases (unless they're really short).

When your growing up as a gawky,lanky teenager its horrible the amount of abuse you get and the height abuse doesnt stop when your in your teens.
Random people will stop and say 'wow your tall','u should play basketball',basically all code for 'your a female freak'.

Being tall is okay in Dublin but I hate going home to Limerick. Everyone is tiny there and you stick out like a sore thumb!

I like short people, I can always rest my arm on the top of their heads and lean on them like a pillar quite comfortably though they don't seem to like it :pac:

Another one Iv head about a millions times - Are you suing the council? Why would be the response. For building the road to close to your arse?

I dont think Id want to be any different than the height I am. Im grand with my height its my width I have a problem with.

I'm female, 5 10 (ish) and love my heels. But it really, really annoys me when guys that I don't know feel like they can come up to me in pubs saying "You're tall", I normally tell them I like looking down on people.

Also annoys me when people tell me I shouldn't wear heels - I like them so why not?

Im the same height as you also female and i can't wear heels purely because i feel self-concious wearing them good for you though that you can wear them without feeling like that, i'd love to be able to do it
