I'm assuming they check your teeth, bloods all that kind of stuff too? The eye test a detailed one?

No blood test just urine.....eye test is fairly basic as is checking your teeth, just a quick look to make sure you haven't got the auld (smile your on heroine) rotten gums.....:D
    You'll all be fine.

Hi folks hope ye are well, just wondering there seems to be a lot of people getting called for medicals which is good news i know, have we an idea how many and what recruitment drive/batches they are from? Also cant help wondering whether its just getting processing people for the sake of it because i cant see an intake going in in the near future, ive been told that there is no miore going in this year and MAYBE two small intakes of 50 each next year....not trying to be negative but anyone any ideas on numbers gone for med etc?

You obviously dont find your own source reliable if your questioning everything you heard. Dont mean to be bad but i'm sure everyone here would appreciate it if people stopped posting things they "heard" when they dont even believe it themselves.

Can anyone confirm the following for me. Is it batch one people that have all their medicals and physicals completed at the moment. ? (they will realistically be called for the next group that start). People that are called for medicals seem to be may 08 batch 2? Can any of the people tell me what position they came in the competiton ? If i am reading this wrong and other people have been called from other batches please let me know ?

you get called for medical when background checks come back, they come back in any order and then it goes by order of merit.....thats why its confusing, i was very high up in batch 1 but know of people in batch 2 that started in may cause others hadnt done med's and physical so they call in next 100 with everything complete

Basically it means how quick you rang in when they opened the lines for the amplitude test.
It's crazy, now people who rang in early on the first day will probably be in a year before the people who left it off for awhile.

For the eyes, I think if you fail, you can go to an independent eye specialist and he/ she will send a report back to HQ

that is crazy!! i would have got my eye corrected already but the optition said i was very borderline and i might pass so the surgery might have been unnecessary

I'm not completely sure about it to be honest. But I'm sure someone here, has been in the same boat and will help you

If you fail on the eye test you can go and get laser eye surgery and then submit an opticians report to say you are fine etc. But it will set you back timewise, so you are better off having it done before the med IMO.

as i said i would have if i knew i would definately fail but i dont, fingers crossed now i wont need to get it done and it wont set me back any more time

FYI "itsallgood" my 'source' was actually a person in appointments and seeing as they are all saying something different its hard what to believe so what do you suggest we post other than actual statements we hear? I suggest cool the jets a small bit before giving orders about what to post or what not to post...sorry for posting this publicly by the way everyone but it seems to be the thing to do these days...;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 134 ✭✭Paudie223

I think it wouldnt be worth their while only having 2 intakes of 50 people, not feasible when you think about it.

I wonder have they made all the phonecalls that they are going to make for the medicals in sept or will there be a few more

Take it easy, wasnt a personal attack on you so calm down, i didnt give any "orders" just saying that a lot of people are making statements here that they "heard from there source" and as you said, if the people in recruitment say different things how do friends of gardai and gardai know whats happening.....thats all. :D

I think by the fact that they are having medicals so early, we could see an intake before Christmas rather than 2010

Like most people said nothing can be sure at the moment no matter what info we hear but the fact that the medicals are starting again can't be anything but good news not only for the people who are called for medicals (delighted for ya's by the way!) but for people like me who are waiting for the next recruitment.

Hopefully there will be a recruitment before 2011, fingers crossed anyway :p

    hey,

what about varicous veins? I had surgery and going to have another one.
I keep illness under control anyway but i am afraid it can harm my application to garda.

    thanks
