What is involved in the training? Where will it take place?

I am living in Kerry. Will I be able to train here?

I'm pretty sure the assessments are done online and then people are called for interviews.

Nope, unless it's changed since I did it, after the online assessment we were called to do written assessments in DIT Kevin St

You do both, one online and one in person

You aren't going to hear anything until June usually, interviews will be July, they've thousands of applications to process. Don't be annoying them asking if they've decided yet or making sure they got your application, they did. You'll hear from them whether you get to the next stage or not.

As for the lad who wondered if he was too old at 30 something. Not at all!! But wages at the start ain't very good so you'll have to live with that. It's like €210 per week in first year. But you'll get an overnight allowance when you're sent to Portlaoise for training to pay for accommodation n food.

To the lad who lives in Kerry: Off job ESB training and usually the first month of your apprenticeship is done in the training school in Portlaoise. It's actually a bit of craic n you get to know the lads in your year good. You'll spent at least a month each year here. All ESB specific training is carried out here. You'll be sent to Fas for your usual off job electrical training on top of this also. You'll usually be based close enough to home for on the job training. But not always, you could be sent to Dublin for 3 months. You rotate between sections in the ESB, 3 months in each and you got to go where you're told. You're given an allowance when you're sent far from home. Not much, but enough for digs.

    Hope to be of help

    In the job 14 years

Yeah great place to work really. It's a steady job like. Wages at the start are just standard apprentice wages. Afterwards if you're kept on its alright pay, it's nothing like what people think we earn. Nothing like that!! And I don't know what kind of contract they're offering these days to be honest, it's not the job til you retire for all like it was a while ago. But there's opportunities to progress all the time and specialise in certain areas. Go on call in your area n all that, but it takes a few years before you can start doing any of that. All in all its a happy workplace. Some places aren't but most areas and sections are. Nice community is what it's really like.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but just been made aware of this thread..

Today I received an email saying that I have Not been selected for the next stage of the selection process..
However I read that many people have completed an online aptitude test relatively soon after their initial 2015 Apprenticeship application on the ESB vacancy site. This is not the case with me, I have not had any direction to complete an online aptitude test. My initial application was made on the 3rd of April, but have not received any notification either via email or on my ESB application log in page until today, when I was informed of not being selected to continue further..

So my question: Is it common that persons will not be selected to sit the first online aptitude test?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated..

I'm not 100% sure but could be that you didn't meet the qualification i.e didn't pass maths or something along those lines maybe

I havent got anything. And i did it ages ago in february!

This is nothing official at all, but remember thousands of people go for this job and not many get it. They don't interview many either, a couple of hundred maybe. There's a lot of reasons why very good people get turned away. The ESB is looking for a motivated person who is dedicated to what they do. So if you have two degrees and have changed your job a few times you're not getting in, you clearly don't know what you want to do so why would ESB train you for 4 years, costing the place a fortune, and they really do invest in training, why would they take on a person who doesn't know what they want to do and is just joining to add to the cv and possibly after a lot being invested the person they wouldn't even say yes to the full time job. Think about it like
