Wow I'm really starting to feel pregnant today! This now ing was the first time I felt my bump getting in the way while I tried to put on my tights. It seems to have become more bump like in the last few days. For the 2nd half of the day it feels like my insides are being squished, i feel over full when i eat and my bump feels harder.

It reminds me of how I felt during the last 20 weeks of the previous pregnancy. I'm 18, almost 19, weeks so I shouldn't really be surprised. I'm getting stronger kicks too in the last few days. Whatever way it was lying I could feel the baby inside my bump on Friday evening.

I had my consultant appointment today and she was more than happy to send me back to the domino scheme which I'm delighted with. She did a quick scan and said everything seems fine. My anomaly scan is next week \0/

The weeks are flying around though which is both great and scary!

I actually don't like it either so not looking forward to it. The consultant changed the appt around to be be on the same day as his so I didnt have to come in twice. Am actually quite nervous I will have gestational diabetes :(

How are you feeling today Tigeress? Any ease in the back last night?

I have a physio class in the coombe next week and am really looking forward to it. I also downloaded a prenatal pilates dvd class and bought the pilates ball so I can try and do a bit of exercise with my back at home.

I wouldn't worry too much YH the chances are ya don't have it! I'm on the larger size and so they assumed I would have it cause my Grandad had type 2 aswell, I got checked on my lay Preg aswell and cause he was huge they thought I'd have it this time but I haven't :) they'll phone you within a day if you do have it so if you don't hear by the next day then you know you're grand :) I always found the waiting around for 2 hours the worst part.. But at least you get to see your baba :D always a plus! Are you gonna find out what you're having or keep it a suprise? Just make sure you bring a sandwich and a drink for afterward as your fasting then have a sugar rush from telhe lucozade and not being able to eat or drink anything till its done..

My back is no better :( I think I'm coping a little better though.. Maybe my pain tolerance has gone up? I dunno.. Thanks for asking though :)

I am - but as I'm only 11 weeks I'm thinking it's probably vomiting related. I know they're very common in pregnancy but not sure when they're meant to start! It is annoying because they come on so suddenly too - I feel your pain. I got a bit of a fright the first time :)

Tigeress, i had 3 nosebleeds i think they were between week 19-21. im 23weeks now and i haven't had one since. The first one gave me a fright as it was pumping blood like i'd burst a vessel or something it bled like that for about 2mins or so which felt like forever!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,064 ✭✭✭Rachineire

Yep I've had a very slow nosebleed for most of my third trimester...sometimes it's a proper nosebleed sometimes it's just when I blow my nose its a little bloody...I don't even really notice it anymore haha! Just all the extra blood in the body!
Also YH I second tigress, chances are you will be a-ok I am on the heavy side as well and have a history of diabetes in my family and was sure I might have it but I came back just fine! The worst part was drinking the lucozade after fasting haha!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭Tigeress

It's mad isn't it? I'm 34 weeks and they've only started recently! Like yours Elly they come on so suddenly and last about a min of pouring blood then just stop again! In on Fri for an Antenatal so I'll say it to the Doc then just to be safe :)

I got a few. I also got gum bleeds which went away again after I gave birth.

  • Registered Users Posts: 409 ✭✭FunkSoulSista

I woke up with a random nosebleed in 2nd trimester. Also have bleeding gums, been to the dentist a few times getting gums cleaned, great fun....not!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,339 ✭✭✭How Strange

Bleeding gums is fairly common in pregnancy. I have gum disease so I have to be super careful when pregnant but I get my teeth cleaned every 3 months anyway so I'm closely monitored. It took a year for my gums to fully recover from the last pregnancy.

Ladies - for those of you that had morning sickness, when did you stop vomiting/be able to eat normally again? I'm 12 weeks next Monday and not sure how much more I can take. Have lost 10lbs at this stage, and despite a few days where I've felt more normal having a bad week and nothing is staying down. Just wanted to hear other people's experiences so I can cling to the hope that I only have another 2/3 weeks of this (all my research says it lifts at 12 - 14 weeks). I'm worried about losing too much weight because I was a healthy weight to begin with. :(

Murdy have you asked your gp about hyperemis? I think thats what its called- severe morning sickness. Its worth looking into! I wasnt nearly as sick as you have been but my MS lifted around 12 or 13 weeks, the fatigue lifted as well...hope you start feeling better!

Yeah, I've spoken to my GP about it. He says there is nothing they can do unless I become dehyrdated in which case I will be put on a drip for a few hours. If I think I'm dehydrated I'm supposed to call him straight away but despite being very ill, I think I'm keeping enough liquids down that I'm not dehyrdated yet. From reading about hyperemesis it says if you lose 5% of your body weight you should be checked out. I've lost more than that but I still think I'm on my own with it. According to my GP they'll only put you on anti-nausea medicine if you're over 13 weeks.

I'll mention it at my hospital appointment next week but think I'm stuck with it for the moment. Thanks for the sympathy anyway! If it does lift at 12/13 weeks then I think I'll be ok. If it goes on longer than that I'm a bit worried about too much weight loss.

well I'm no expert, but as far as i know, but having weight loss (even a big amount like your having) isn't terribly bad. at this stage the baby gets the nutrients first and you get the left overs. You will need to put on weight, and trust me it will happen as the nausea eases but try not to stress too much about it! Well i hope they are able to do something for you and the next week to two sails by so you can start taking the anti-nausea medication if thats what it takes!

Thanks - that does make me feel a bit better :) I made my mother violently ill and I was over 8lbs at birth so I'm trying to remember that as well!

MurdyWurdy try not to wrry about the weight loss: I had hyperemesis and had lost 21lbs at my worst but I gained afterwards (and still havent lost!) and had a fabulous 7lb 15oz baba :D

Also your GP is dead wrong about the anti nausea medicine only being given to those over 13weeks: I was getting it injected when I was in hosp and only after 3 different doctors reassuring me that they were safe to take. Obviously you don't want to but it can be reassuring to know that you certainly have that option if you need it.

Good luck :) I know its really hard but it does get easier

After the baby was born on my 1st.
I was put on Dopamine but its effects were worse then the sickness,I just got used to it.
The doctor did remind me that babies are parasites and just eat what you can manage but stay hydrated.
I lost weight due to it too and was not exactly over weight to begin with.
On the 2nd it was bad up until about 20 weeks but I was permanently nauseaus the whole time jut not sick and did not loose weight.
I had 2 happy healthy girls.

This time the nausea is no where near as bad but I am often sick, I think it is a boy:)

Awe Murdy I hope you feel better soon :( on my last pregnancy I had awful MS for 14 weeks but then it really turned around and I felt great in the 2nd tri, in saying that I've never really puked just felt super ill.. Same on this pregnancy but it lasted till 18 weeks before it cleared up.. I still have sicky days but not nearly as bad! You'll be ok though hun, it'll all be worth it :) I hope it eases off soon xx

I went for my Physio today and I was told my SPD is bad but because I've been tensing (not on purpose, just cause of the pain) that my lower lumber is ceased up too.. And that's the main cause of my pain :( she gave me excercises to use for the next week as my back is just too tender to try massage it out.. If all goes to plan then she'll start massaging it out next week! She also gave me crutches to help me unload some of the weight and therefor the agony and they do help but I can only use them when I'm on my own.. I can't exactly deal with an 11 month old and crutches! I'm feeling a lot more optimistic that I can help myself heal this pain! She said its not permanent and will go as soon as baby arrives but if I try loosen myself up then I can get the pain managed (here's hoping) she wreckens if it all goes to plan i be a lot better in 2 weeks, so fingers crossed ladies! She advised lots of heat (hot water bottles) and try the tens machine!

On another note.. Does anyone have an experience with pumping breast milk before baby arrives? I'm starting to leak now and I'm looking into pumping as on my last preg I had to stop feeding him due to infections after the section and having to go on antibiotics.. I'd have loved to have had a supply stocked up to give him then so I'm debating trying now and stocking up before he's born.. Anyone any thoughts? Apparently people do it a lot! Haven't fully decided yet..

you poor thing, at least you know what the issue is now.
I never heard of pumpng before baby is here,it took ages for my milk to come in and never got much out of pumping.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,339 ✭✭✭How Strange

Hi Tigress so glad to hear you got positive news about your back.

You can express colostrum prior to the birth and save it in breastmilk bags in the freezer. After birth the baby only needs a teaspoon or so of colostrum at a time as they're not hungry as such for 3-4 days which is when your milk usually comes in. I don't know about using a pump and whether that's a good idea or not but you could definitely hand express which would be more gentle on your breasts.

Having a supply of expressed colostrum before the birth is a particularly good idea if you're having a c-section as your recovery could take longer than expected especially if you have a general anaesthetic as opposed to an epidural. I know this was the case for a friend of mine. In that case your partner could do skin to skin and give spoons of colostrum while you recover.

I'd recommend you get in contact with your local la Leche or Cuidiu group as the leaders will give you the best information as regards expressing before birth.

Thanks HS! There's a dedicated Breast Feeding Specialist in my hospital so I might give her a call and see why she says about it all! I had a section under general anaesthetic and his 1st feed had to be bottle as I was still in theatre and I found it so hard and emotionally draining cause I was in so much pain and trying to feed him, it tore me apart and at the time so I wanna try this way and see of it works.. I really want him to have the best start but I honestly don't know if I could go through it all again with the same type of section! Thanks again :)

Thanks for the reasurance ladies and for sharing your experiences- if it does go on past about 14 weeks then I'll need to take something for it, I can't go on like this for months. I just feel so helpless because you don't see anyone until you're 12 weeks so you have nobody to tell how sick you are so I don't know whether to be worried or not. Even if it was a feeling of nausea all the time I think I could cope better but it's the constant vomiting and keeping nothing down that I find difficult. My GP was sympathetic but his attitude was to suck it up and watch out for dehydration, basically.

Tigress - I hope you feel better soon, that sounds really uncomfortable!

Moonbeam - all the women in my family suffer very badly with morning sickness and every one swears that it was worse on the girls so maybe you are having a boy this time!

aww I feel for you tigress...a wrecked back and pelvis! I'm hoping you have a quick and easy birth after all of this!
Did your phyiso recommend using a tennis ball to ease some of the knots in your back? mine was saying to lay on the ground and roll over it but that was impossible with the bump...I had my OH use a tennis ball and get some of the knots on my back out that way...helped a lot actually!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭Tigeress

Hi Rach! No she didn't mention anything like that.. She did say just to start on the excersises, she couldn't believe how sore and tender my back was so I think she's a little worried about doing anything until I loosen a little.. Hopefully I'll have loosened up by my appoint on Tues and I can start the Physio Massages and that they'll help!

How are you doing? You and Moonbeam are so close :)

Well hello ladies. I'm bbbaaaacccckkkkk. Sorry i've been so quite lately. I have been totally beyond exhausted and in agony. Nothing new there.
@murdywrdy i wouldn't worry about not gaining weight yet. I had severe morning sickness untill about 14 weeks and up until 3 weeks ago had only put on 3lbs by then and i was at my ideal weight when i fell pregnant. It's only in the last 3 weeks i've put on any weight. Had a check up this morning and put on 8lbs in that time. Thats the good news. Bad news i apparently have another uti and i'm joining the spd club as well. So it's back on bedrest (so not an option) for me. Ah well only 12 weeks and 2 days left. :-D

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,064 ✭✭✭Rachineire

Welcome back thumby! I'm sorry you havnt been feeling well- it can be so draining...hope that uti clears up for you sharpish!

Tigress, I've had nothing but lumbar trouble, and then in my third trimester it was affecting my entire left side of my back...nothing but huge knots all the way up! I could barely put any weight on my left side at all- now i never have had a bother with spd though so no clue about that...but i was extremely tender as well. She told me the tennis ball was an effective way of relieving the pressure (and pain) without putting a ton of strain on the back. I wouldnt do anything with out my physio's approval though just in case! especially if you are really tender...i was super tender as well and it definitely hurt when my OH and the physio were working out the knots...i was covered in sweat the first few times from the pain! it did get better though after keeping at it, the pain in working the muscles got better and better as has my back. its not 100% better but completely manageable now!

I'm doing ok, having a very lazy day today...napped all morning on the couch! sleep is next to impossible and i feel so bad for my OH as im struggling to turn over half the night in bed and he is clinging on to the edge of his side for dear life :o baby seems to be happy where he is...im having way less pressure down there than i was 4 weeks ago! I have my next appointment on monday and im hoping to maybe get a sweep? I might be completely bold but i would love to go sooner than later! (and the other part of me is freaked because i want to get the next three months errands done before baby gets here haha!)

Rach - I have a feeling you'll go early. I don't know why but I just sense it!

Ladies - quick question. You know the way us pregnant ladies can't eat soft cheeses? Can you eat brie if it's been cooked in something? My friend is having a Christmas party soon and is talking about a recipe she has for brie, cranberry and pastry bites. Now, I probably will still be too ill to eat anything but if I'm not that's something I'd love to eat. Is there still a risk of Listeria though is the cheese has been baked?
