Spitfire just asked me to announce the opening of a new airsoft site in Drogheda (hurrah!)

    Details are as follows;

It is in an old quarry with scrubland and bush on it too. its a bit bare at the min but thats due to it only being acquired of recently.

100 bales of hay are due to land on site by Wednesday which will be the basic cover until a plan can be made for the village that is going in.there is also a tanker here too funny enough.

Its open this Saturday and hopefully, will have about 15guns for rentals but this is not definite due to unexpected shipping delays with such a big order.
    However all walk-ons are welcome.

The site is north of Drogheda town by about 5-10 minutes up the n1 were you will see an EMO garage on your left with a gate just before it and a "Drogheda Airsoft" sign with a sniper as a logo. Thats it.

The phone number for enquiries is 0857158768.

Best of luck with this Alan. I'm sure it should have a few people excited ;)

    Cool thats good news.

Would like to try a Skirmish sometime but the first thing
that stuck me was that the only place for Skirmish was
in Dublin, quite far away from where I live.
Have found with quite a lot of interests things are available
in Dublin or Nothern Ireland and no other place in the entire Country.

I really hope other sites open up soon and heopfully we
wont end up with a load of sites around the Dublin area and
none in the rest of the country.

Would Love to see some of the paintball sites cater for airsofters too.
An Airsoft skirmish site in Cork, Limerick and Galway would fill in a lot
of gaps and open up the sport to a lot more people that could have
a better choice of travel to different places.
From reading the census forum people with an interest are mostly in
Dublin and then we kinda get scattered around the country.
Having a site close to each of the biggest of the cities/counties
may encourage people to try it out and not have to travel long distances.

I'm the same, excellent to see the new site but I haven't skirmished in 5 months due to being in Limerick. And I got no word back from Combat Zone about using their place.

Congrats to all involved in setting it up though. Any idea what the ground is like? Last quarry site I saw for airsoft lent itself rather well to using tan/desert camo and I need an excuse for owning all that choc chip gear.

Congrats with the site Alan and best of luck ;)
Ahh poor Scope still has to travel yonks to play a game
it kills me it does, havnt been able to go 2 a skirmish in months :(
no word back from Combat Zone about using their place.
ill news indeed, ohh if only i had the funds

the site itself were the quarry is ATM, is grey stone rock with sandy colored clay mounds beside it to the east of the site and green bush in between.
Then there is green grass land to the south of the site with trees and the like.
The quarry area and the clay area will will get scrapped and leveled once the digger arrives and a village is planned for the quarry section with small trenches around it.

i have no way to get the pics from my ps3 onto my laptop yet but i had a basic OS map of the site with me the other day in HRTA for anyone that remembers. some of the Madraí looked at it.

Its VERY easy to find, follow the dublin road north through drogheda town and igt turns into the N1 on the way out of town, its 5 to 10 mins up the road beside the EMO garage.

Most of the peeps in work said the Paintball in Combat Zone was fun
but a bit boring and they were not too impressed. Some of the guys
mentioned it was more or less run at each other and shoot without
    any kind of guidance/structure/tactics.
    (and WAAAAAYYYYY tooooo expensive)
Most people want to do it once or twice but other than that
never go again. For people MAd into it they could not expect
to pay 45 Euros every time they wanted a skirmish so there
is a need for some sort of Club to be formed where people can
meet up and shoot for cost price or a little above to pay for
    Land/insurance etc.

(Now as a business your not gonna make much money from
that but if you open up a bit of a choice for all the local
office Walter Mitty's I'll bet it will encourage lots
of office outings where you could make a killing on
selling extra BB's alone after the initial starter package/deal
ran out. I Noticed both the Airsoft and Paintball places offer
A Skirmish/package which includes 200 rounds for 40-45 Euro (too expensive IMHO) but ya
gotta make a profit to make it all worth while business wise)

A worry of mine is if a Paint ball site would just
go airsoft all of a sudden would be that they would treat airsoft
exactly the same as paint ball only using BB's instead of paint balls
and that would do nothing to add to the sport.

You would need someone experienced specifically with airsoft or
better still someone army or ex-army that would build missions or
create specific situations and use real tactics etc to get the
    appeal going.

Once I build up a bit more Kit I was thinking of dropping into
Combat Zones office and maybe inviting the Owner to
come down to my house and take a look at the hardware
in the hopes it would spark some interest or convince them
that it could be fun. (I don't have much Hardware yet though)

Only thing is I also have ZERO experience with either paint balling or Airsoft
so it would not be my place to start telling people the DO's and Donts

    Pictures and Video:

    Hey everyone.
I hope Crazy and whoever is involved in this new site doesn't mind, but me and 2 of the lads drove down from just outside Dundalk to scope the new place out and I took a few pics and a short video of the new site just outside Drogheda. If you want me to remove the pictures then I will do immediately.

But I have to say that this site has AMAZING potential, even as it is it has an excellent layout and is surrounded on 3 side by a huge rock face. I would like to offer mine and one of my mates services to help out in anyway possible from next week onwards to get this site up and running. And now for the pics:

It's look good alright. Might pay it a visit on Sunday (HRTA on Saturday)

Oh, and Voodoo, I have nothing to do with the setup of this site. If I'd seen a suitable site, and there wasn't already a site in North Dublin, I would probably would have set one up. I had also given serious thought to being a retailer as well, but determined it was too risky at the moment. Oh damn, I'm going off topic. Sorry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

    Ah, cool.
Well looks like were all going to HRTA then. But that site is going to be great if it gets setup.

I'm waiting to get my new gear sorted and my old gear sold before I go to a game again.

    Really missing it!

The site looks really interesting from those pictures. A village would be excellent.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

no hassle with the pics, i was posting them anyway, just didnt get around to getting them onto my laptop as the person with the sd card is out of action injured so i cant get them. Ive tonnes of pics from up on the top of the cliffs and from everywhere you can think of taking in the whole site. The pics dont realy do the sites size much justice, its bigger then it looks in the pics. the open qurry area at the back alone is huge.

there will be at least 6 rental guns avail this weekend,
Prices are the same as HRTA,
    Masks and helmets are avail,
And there should be 7 or 8 bags of BB's avail for purchase too.

Any orders from Asia at the min are being delayed due to severe storms and shipping has suffered, thats why there arent more.

The open space at the back is were the village is going to be in the future with small trenches and mounds on the perimiter of it like something from Band of Brothers. The only issue with that is as im sure Casper will back up is that materials to build a village can be very expensive, (from what i can remember from speaking to the lads is that the one in predator cost over 5 grand) so some money needs to be made back first.

The heavy bush in the middle to the right as you walk along the road in will have paths cut into it with a strimmer soon enough and the truck will be made safer for use in games with the tanker such as hold the position for an alloted time while the truck is repaired etc.

Any offers of a helping hand are much apritiated and if you ring the mobile number above and speak to John i'm sure he'll gladly accept as i wont be around to help out this week.

You should talk to local builders and suppliers they always have stuff left over that's no good to them and would be happy to give it away for free just so they don't have to pay to dump it legaly. Is there a renovating and building forum, ask there. A friend of mine in the UK built a bar completely out of recycled material, he didn't pay a penny for any of it and it looked class.

Things like old prefabs would get allot of wear and taer and need to be replaced on a regular basis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

We were thinking that ourselves when we went up, it costs a lot even just to build a small room. And the likes of breeze blocks ain't cheap.

That area where the village is going is the perfect location, we said that too. But is most of the ground around there not extremely rocky? It'll be no easy task digging through that without the right machinery.

The site also needs a good bit of chopping back, with paths and laneways cut through all the dense shrubbery. I love the idea of old prefabs, they could be unbelievable...

And yes the site is far far bigger than it looks, the second picture is the best indicator of the sheer size of it. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 245 ✭✭cherubaul

for starters staw/ hay bales can be used stacked about four high to make a myriad of cover or even to simulate a village. have done it myself as a nipper making forts and such and dammit they were fun :)

building sites are good scavanging grounds as have been mentioned . what about local businesses??? pallets make great building material. Make a 2x4 wooden frame and fix the pallets to them you could then stretch and staple a sheet of tarp or canvas ovwr this to cover the holes and you'd have a pretty sturdy structure.

also a ruined village might be cheaper to make and you could dig craters etc into it for added cover and lots of character

Just after giving that picture a closer look...wow, you're right. It looks huge!

I wonder how long they have the lease for? As well as man made cover, they could maybe think about planting some quick growing foliage that could have tracks cut through.

Would be nice and cheap too.

If you want to make good solid house's labour will be expensive, health and safty will come into it and price does soar.

That's the one, sounds sturdy enough that you wouldn't even need much in the way of foundation and easy to do, no skilled labor involved.
