Don't know if any northsiders remember a chap in a semi-d near the Artane roundabout beside the TSB bank - front and rear garden stuffed full of yokes with a gap down the back garden for his Ma to hang out the washing :P

Those were nearly all BMW, mostly 5 series, he wasn't keen on selling any parts.

I think they were the even earlier E3 2800 models, he used to wear a brown suit and smoked like a trooper.
The two initial models, introduced in 1968 and sold through 1977, were the 2.5 L 2500 and 2.8 L 2800. In 1971, the Bavaria, made exclusively for America, replaced the 2500/2800 models, but used the 2.8 L engine with some interior features stripped out to give a more attractive price, about US$5,000, less than the $6,874 of its full-featured predecessor, the 2800.

They were roomy 6-cylinder cars that handled well and impressed contemporary reviewers. Road & Track called the Bavaria "delightful" and "superb", concluding that it was "one of the world's best buys". The big-bore, dual-carbureted 3.0S was introduced in 1971. It was more powerful and expensive than the 2800; a fuel-injected version was also made.

Yes i remember it well I used to make sure & sit on top deck of the 42 bus so I could have a proper nose into back garden/ scrapyard too.

There were probably 10+ BMWs in the place mostly old rusted 5series e12 etc

House was very rundown in general too then out of the blue there was a change & house was overhauled given new bricks & plaster & the cars all vanished:(

I dont know that family so I dont have a clue what was happening behind the scenes .maybe his ma put the foot down lol. I know mine did :o

The mans name was Kevin Garland, an eccentric gentleman.
He passed away in 2006 at a very old age.
He was a car dealer pre and post war and was very much involved in exporting high quality cars from Ireland to Britain after the Emergency when there was a shortage there- Humber, Alvis, Armstrong Siddeley etc.
He kept many of the cars he fancied.

There were an entirely different selection of cars there at his house until approx '93 when they were all cleared out, he then set about refilling the front and back garden with more!!

Here is a pic I took around 2000 looking over the garden wall.
All these cars are long gone now.

The car in the foreground is an Alvis TD21, he wanted me to buy it but it was far too bad. There were two more TD21's in the hedges at the back of the photograph amongst other cars.
Although, very hard to make out there are four Wolseley 1500's, a Rover P4 and a Riley RME in this photograph!

Places like this in Dublin are really a thing of the past.

Thanks for all the info Kevin.
Id say the man had some great stories such a shame to hear that.:(

I grew up 3 miles away from Artane but dont recall the older cars as I was only a child myself in 80s.
I dont recall ever meeting the gent himself the only time I saw people there were the bulilders who were overhauling the house & gardens.. I kinda assumed that something serious:( had happened as all the cars vanished & the house was fixed up a in a very short time frame even by celtic tigers stupidly fast standards.

Bit confused, judging by what I remember he should be about 60 now - maybe his son (brown suit ?)

Do you remember the chap opposite Harry Byrne's ? Had a Herald and a Mini lying there until they rotted into the ground.

And Rowans Insurance opposite Coolock Motors, Dermot was a Fiat fan to the end

The BMW in the pic has a nice reg - 'WZG 1'.
I wonder was it a 'Dublin Lord Mayor car' in it's day?

I see you have two pics of a French registered VW Syncro in your album. Where did you see that?

parked up in Trinity yesterday, they were probably renting some of the student accommodation for a few days(as we were) filled to the gunnels with camping gear and bedding/clothes etc. strangely, had a hole rusted through the centre of the sliding door, not much in the seams. Posted the pics on type2ireland. Spotted the fuel filler first, before the badge.

I see the Rover outside the GAA grounds in Carlow usually, I seen the minor a few times too, advertising a stove shop.
    A sad existence for them:(

Looks like a class of a scrapyard. Probably had been raped for parts if that is the case.
