I just want to bump this once. I'm thinking about €200 but I'm not sure

I was going to say €250 but then I saw the Power Supply and went down to €200.

Is there something wrong with that PSU?
I used to have 5 hard drives in it and the system overclocked and it was 100% stable

It's a really old PSU and you're lucky it didn't blow up when the computer was overclocked.

    Blow up? Really?

It's the same age as the rest of the system apart from the GPU. If it can provide the 485W it's rated at I can't see the problem.

Just checked on this site http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
And with current configuration and CPU overclocked to 2.8 power usage is calculated at 389 watts
Is that PSU know to be defective? I have used it for years with no problem

Never look at the PSU calculator since they're bull****.
It's a 2006 Power Supply, don't you think that parts deteriorate after a period of time?
And it's not dependand on the wattage by itself. It's the 12V rail that's important too and I'm pretty sure that the PSU goes below the 5% safe rate now.

Every part except the graphics card was bought in 2006. Should they all have blown up by now? I have a 13 year old amd k6 system that still runs just fine with a light weight dirtro. Should that have blown up?

This is the first time I have heard you should change your psu periodically.
    What intervals would you recommend?

And of course the 12v rail is most important. Is 32A on that rail not enough?

I have 2 pentium 4 processors that I'm looking to sell, I'm just wondering what kind of price to be looking for?

    P4 extreme edition 3.73GHz
    P4 2.93GHz

    both LGA775.

I had a look at ebay, and the 3.73GHz was pretty expensive, surely they're not still that price?!

i suppose you have lga 775 p4 3.0 GHz HT and 3.5 GHz HT

first one around 15 euros the other one not more than 20 =]

  • Registered Users Posts: 77 ✭✭smjpl

    @ Chalky

Take a look at this. Someone with the same extreme edition earlier this year.

    http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/298729-10-intel-confidential-engineering-sample-1066

It talks about the sellers on ebay.

Conclusion: Not that good but not that bad either.
    Range for P4 EE 3.73GHz: $20 - $90

My advice: Get all the information you can about the cpu. If you have the box and everything that came with it great. If not, make sure you know exactly which one your selling.
This one is a slightly different model and its worth a lot more.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/INTEL-Pentium-EE-965-3-73Ghz-775-CPU-3-73-1066-NEW-/320556201801?pt=CPUs&hash=item4aa2a37749

Download CPU-Z or HWM Black Box. Programs for looking at the hardware. That is if its still in a running PC. Take a screen print with the tool, stick it up for $90 and see what happens. With that info you have a better chance of getting an enthusiast to take a look at yours.

    Best of luck.

    Rough Guide for you

    PC

    case - 89.75
    cpu - 160.36
    mobo - 158.00
    ram - 37.41
    cpu cooler - 30.00
    gpu - 145.54 x 2 = 292
    psu - 92.69
HDD - 120 (HDD price was estimated. HDD's new today are unrealistic due to flooding and will come down soon.)
    SSD - 80
    dvd - 20

    PC - 1079 new today from hardwareversand.de

    6 months - <1 year with receipts & warranty: 70% = 755

    1 year+ & no receipts: 50% = 540

    Peripherals (Typical Adverts.ie prices)

    24" - 150
22" x 2 - 150 (Monitors could be worth more. There was no model numbers so took them as basic 22" & 24" models)
    mouse - 35
    keyboard - 35
    headset - 20

    Total: 390

    No receipts

Sell it all together. Stick it up for E1000. Have loads of pictures of the monitors set up looking really well with PC. Add manufacturer links to all the main bits of hardware. Cpu , mobo, crossfire gpu's & psu. Throw in the games & OS as a bonus for anyone offering asking price.

I take it your leaving the gaming world as you will have to give up your steam/origin account to give the games away. (Battlefield anyway. Not sure about others).

You could always try push for more but that seems like a fair price.

anyone got any idea how much a laptop is worth for parts? its a hp pavillion dv2000, graphics card is fecked due to a design fault with hp (overheats and solder melts so it dislodges causing no picture). i've had it fixed but it happened again after a week, couldn't be bothered fixing it again as i got a new laptop. everything else is good, screen, keyboard, battery (less than 6months old), charger, hard drive, the lot!

    Alienware M14x Laptop:
    Intel i7 2630qm
    4GB DDR3 1600Mhz ram
    GT 555m Graphics card
    500GB HDD
    1600x900p 14 inch display

Windows Home Premium + Microsoft Office 2010 installed.

I bought it for 1250 euro (ish) last June and I want to sell it for a lighter, smaller laptop :) Thanks in advance.
