Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The 2011 Boards PW Draft - Picks Thread (FINAL) ROUND 15
-
09-01-2011 9:19pmOK folks this is the thread in which participants in this year's draft game will make their picks. It is not for chat so please keep discussion of the game in the designated discussion thread.
If you feel you won't be able to make your pick at the required time please PM myself or the mods with a list of a couple of choices you have in mind so that a pick can be made for you in your absence.
For reference here is a quick review of the rules for this year's game which contain some tweeks from last year so please read:Rules:
- You have 24 hours to make your pick. If you miss your pick you will have to wait until after number 20 has chosen to make your pick. You will be PM'd about your missed pick and if you miss your pick twice, you will be eliminated from the contest. Your roster will then be either given to a reserve, or the r
oster will be divided up in a later round.
- If you are banned, for any length of time, during the draft, you will be eliminated from the contest. Your roster will then be either given to a reserve, or the roster will be divied up in a later round.
- In the game no wrestler can be chosen twice. For example, if someone selects Stone Cold then Stone Cold is no longer available for anybody else!
- Each person makes fifteen picks over fifteen rounds. One choice per round. Everyone gets their turn.
Tag Teams:
Tag Teams come as a package so for example if you want the Dudleys then you don't have to pick Bubba one round and then D-Von the next. The rules for tag teams are as follows:
- Cannot have a world champion in them ie no DX or Hart Foundation
- Must have tagged together for at least 3 months
- Inter gender tag teams not allowed
- Members of factions, ie Saturn and Malenko, are not deemed valid picks as they are not classed as legit tag teams under the criteria for the game.
- 5 tag teams is the maximum amount of teams for each roster
World Titles:
World titles are considered as the following:
WWE, World Heavyweight Title/WCW, TNA and NWA
(Note: For the benefit of the game as a whole and to reflect the realistic loss in prestige of the NWA Title, only holders of the NWA Title up until the WCW World Championship came into use will be regarded as World Champions for the purposes of the game. )
Eligible Promotions:
WWE, TNA, ROH, anything historically going under the NWA banner.
Time Frame:
No professional debuts pre 1970 are eligible. There will be a round for pre 1970 picks. There will also be a celeb round where celebs who have appeared on wrestling TV are elibible for picks.
- To determine wrestler debuts we will use Wikipedia as in previous years. If you feel the Wikipedia entry is incorrect you can PM me or one of the mods to state your case.
- people who would be considerd Celebs more so than wrestlers are only eligable to be drafted in the special celeb round and not in any other round
- Dark matches and try out matches will not be valid cases this year for selecting a wrestler.
- Managers and female wrestlers are eligible if people wish to pick them. Commentators have not been included in recent years.
Stip rounds:
Like last year there will be special rounds to shake the game up a bit and keep everyone on their toes. gimmick has a few tricks up his sleeve for us to deal with again I am sure. Round 1 is a stip round so read about that below.
Note - Rules may be amended during the contest to help run the game smoother if it's felt this is necessary but we will aim to ensure everyone is kept up to date if this has to happen.
So with all that out of the way let's move on to Round 1 which contains the following stipulation:
For Round 1, no wrestlers who debuted pre-1980 are eligible.
For the other rounds which have no stips, the 'normal rounds', they will operate under the rules above but to clarify in this round you can only go for wrestlers who have debuted after 1980.

round 9 Stip round
each participant will pick for the person below them. Yes you read that right.
Number 1 in the draw picks for the person in 2nd place and then the person in 2nd picks for the person in 3rd and so on. Then at the end of the round number 20 picks for number 1 and so we will have come full circle.
Note - It will be up to each person to decide how they wish to pick for someone. If you want to give the person below you a dud pick then that is entirely up to you! Will you be nice? Or will you be nasty? The choice is all yours. Be aware that the rules still apply so you can't do an illegal pick for someone (stating the obvious there but it needs to be said). If you PM the person making your pick for you asking for a pick to be made, you are out on your ass (if we can prove it of course.)

i've never had this good a draw in the first round, epic, and truly, i flip-flopped on this. i was going to go a bit left of field, but i couldn't resist this pick.
the biggest draw in history.
the man who Vince has to thank for beating all the competition.
the man who was fired by Bischoff.
the man who, in the words of Paul E Heyman, 'while Doink the Clown was in WWF, he was drinking his first beer in ECW'
the world's toughest son-of-a-bítch.
the man we'd all like to have a beer with.
the man who has maybe one peer in history in terms of pure entertainment in professional wrestling.
what?!
yes, so without further ado...i give you...Stone Cold Steve Austin
i could've put up a million clips, but here's 3...
and possibly the greatest moment of them all...

I'm going to stick with my policy of going for good in-ring workers as my overall criterion for selecting wrestlers this year - guys that I myself would pay good money to see. There will be no duds, or crappy gimmicks on my roster, we have standards.
Getting drawn so soon gives me a chance to choose undoubtedly the greatest big-stage performer of all time, one of the biggest stars in pro-wrestling history, a great heel or face, an amazing promo, unreal charisma, a guy who appeals to more than one generation of fans.
I give you the show-stopper, Mr Wrestlemania:
HBK Shawn Michaels.

Oh I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. Ladies and gentlemen, I give to you this year's first draft pick from Monday Night Grappling...
...
Triple H!
A man with countless title reigns (too many if you ask me!) but one can't deny at his peak this guy was one of the best heels ever and is regarded as a bona fide star. Hopefully he will be a big player in the MNG movement.
Now you work for me Hunter. Stay in the ring and out of my booking meetings. Mwahahaha. :pac:0 -

My first pick is a man who's had a stellar year in 2010 of incredible matches and its about time this guy left the minor leagues of TNA.. and joined the big boys in WECWF...

Impossible to ignore him now that I have the chance to draft him. I present to you the one, the only jabroni beating, pie eating, trail blazing, eye brow raising, the best in the present, future and past, and if ya'll don't like him you can kiss the people's ass; The Rock.
The Rock is why I started watching wrestling and I am delighted to announce that the Great One will be appearing on my new brand, New World Wrestling's flagship show, Volt. As a draw, there aren't many who can compare. He's also one hell of an athlete with a fantastic track record. I could go on all day about him and I still wouldn't do him justice. Who is the one man who has been a wwe powerhouse over the last 10 years and for the majority of the decade been the poster boy for the company?
Who better to lead the CMW roster?
Than a man who has led the sports entertainment industry singlehandedly over his professional years?
Thats right, the man who everyone has an opinion on...
Ooooooooooooooooooooh BADABA Dooooo!
And remember, YOU CANT SEE HIM anywhere else than on CMW.:cool:0 -
last year this was my 2nd round pick and I thought id made the pick of the game with it, cant wait till rd2 again this year so instead using a cop and pasted post from last year i am re-introducing the first two members of the BWA roster Kenta Kobashi & Mitsuharu Misawa
Kenta KobashiHis second and third North American appearances were for Ring of Honor, where he defeated Samoa Joe in a memorable singles match (given a full 5-stars by the Wrestling Observer as well as their Match of the Year award for 2005), and teamed with Homicide to defeat the tag team of Samoa Joe and Low Ki.
and his tag team partner, who he won the following with:AJPW Unified World Tag Team Championship (2 times)
AJPW All Asia Tag Team Championship
World's Strongest Tag Team League (1993, 1994, 1995)
Mitsuharu Misawahe following week, Misawa traveled to the United States to appear at Ring of Honor's Glory by Honor VI weekend. The first night, he teamed with KENTA to face Takeshi Morishima and Naomichi Marufuji, wrestling to a thirty minute time-limit draw.
They are both eligable to tag due to their above stated time tagging together and due to the fact that they have never won any of the only recognised world titlesWorld Titles:
World titles are considered as the following:
WWE, World Heavyweight Title/WCW, TNA and NWA
despite not holding those titles though im sure many of you will recognise why these stars are such great drafts and will recognise their success outside of the American arenas.
afterall just look at what the observer has to say about em:* Misawa Wrestling Observer Newsletter awards

Awesome. I am glad to say that as soon as I signed up, I decided that this was the guy I wanted as my number one pick. This was the guy I wanted to base my shows around. I had thought one person might have picked him mind, but I am glad to say and see he's still free. He may not be an "Attitude Era" legend. He may not even be a guy that has yet to be given a real chance to be the top guy (Though based on recent stories, he's getting there). But he is a guy who, in my humble opinion, is one of the best talkers in the business ever, is great in the ring in every way and is one of the few remaining "all-rounders" in not just WWE but the entire industry.C.M. Round 1 has motored along very nicely and we're just awaiting Diabhal Beag to wrap it up. Bubs has not made a pick as yet but can make his Round 1 pick when he is next online.
So then here is the draw for Round 2 (which is not a stip round - normal rules apply):
Round 2:
1. Bubs102
2. Teamshadowclan
3. Cactus Colm
4. JP Liz
5. campo
6. Voltwad
7. Diabhal Beag
8. Furious-Red
9. Dieselqueen
10. Thebostoncrab
11. CMpunked
12. Spongey1975
13. Bounty Hunter
14. glenjamin
15. Dare 2 Defy
16. waltersobchak
17. SlickRic
18. flahavaj
19. Ger.C
20. Mr Nice Guy
As you can see Bubs is first for this round which is a bit problematic since he has said he might not have net access for the next while. I therefore suggest that after Diabhal Beag makes his pick, if there is still no sign of Bubs, then Teamshadowclan can commence with Round 2. In the meantime, as soon as Bubs appears he can make his TWO picks which he will be due. Hopefully everyone is happy with that situation.
Also if one of the mods could update the draw in the first post when they get the chance that would be very helpful. As always please keep the discussion in the discussion thread.
So then Diabhal Beag to wrap up Round 1 and after that, Teamshadowclan, if there's no indication Bubs is online, can get Round 2 started.
Good luck, happy pickings etc. :cool:0 -

As soon as I got Punk, I started wondering who would be a good foil for him. Who would work to counter his straight edge lifestyle. Who would be a strong enough adversary to go up against possibly the greatest all-rounder of this generation? I had to think....for all of 5 seconds. I doubt this pick will surprise anyone, given that I've got such a high drawing for round two. Chances are that the three people to get the top three spots in this round were always going to choose the three most obvious people. But they are obvious picks for a reason and I'm certain everyone's gonna be jealous of this one.
As such, allow me to first of all announce the name of my prospective fed.

The 2nd member of the 2011 D.W.O (Defying Wrestling Organization) roster is ...
Jeff Hardy
Whether he's the "Charismatic Enigma" or the "Anti-Christ of Pro Wrestling", there is no doubting Jeff Hardy's in-ring talents. Granted, Jeff will have to adapt to the D.W.O's No drugs/Straight Edge policy but there should be no problems there:pac: Jeff's in-ring style is definitely suited to the D.W.O

you fúcking beauty...Jake 'The Snake' Roberts
he should have been world champion while in his pomp.
he was part of some of my favourite feuds in history, including Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat.
and when Stone Cold beat him...little did he know he'd be the one to inspire a catchphrase that helped define the Rattlesnake.

For my next pick, I'm going for a great double choice
"The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase
Possibly the greatest wrestler never to be WWF champion, he is one of the greatest heels of all time. An amazing and often underrated technician in the ring, his charisma outside the ring has made him one of the true legends of the ring. Delighted to have gotten him, he is just so easy to book.
What would have been a great pick on its own is made an exceptional bargain by getting Stan Hansen as well. A bone fide main eventer in his own right, Hansen was one of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time and a master of the wild brawling style. He has had a great career both in the US and in Japan and as such will be easy to book be it against US or Japanese opposition. He was also certifiably insane and liable to do anything which makes him great fun to book for.
1. Shawn Michaels
2. "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase
3. Stan Hansen0 -

We get our picks at their peak and for me this guy's peak was in 2005 when he was absolutely red hot, had the all peepulation behind him, merchandise was selling like hot cakes, so over in England they had to dub in cheers for a match he had with Batista (himself very popular at the time), was taunting Cena on a weekly basis, and was ready to burst on through the main event scene. Unfortunately, the WWE stupidly never capitalised on this potential but Monday Night Grappling is going to give this man the push he deserves.
Peeps get ready because MNG's number 2 draft pick is Captain Charisma himself...Christian.
A reminder of how over he was at this time:
He's a great worker, fantastic on the mic, and should prove a useful addition to my roster.

Oh you didn't know...?
There are a lot of great tag teams left but these guys and their D-X association compels me to go for them. At their peak they were one of the most over tag teams in WWE history.
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages: Monday Night Grappling proudly brings to you - The Road Dogg Jesse James, The Bad Ass Billy Gunn - The New Age Outlaws!
These guys should prove a useful tag team as well as a good back-up to Hunter. Definitely no PG stuff on my show. And if you're not down with that...

Christ Almighty, I can't believe I get to pick these guys...
pretty much unarguably the backbone of the original, and still arguably greatest, faction in the wrestling business.
one of them is tipped to be in the WWE Hall of Fame this year.
without further ado, i give you...Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard
i'm not going to list off their achievements, but suffice to say they worked hard, played hard, and are in the top 3 tag teams of all time, without question IMO.
they're also both immense on their own too, winning numerous singles titles between them.
here's a couple of videos just so you get a flavour...good God Arn can talk...

My pick is the biggest drawing tag team of all time and arguably the most iconic and legendary team of them all. They regularly main evented shows all on their own and were famed for their brutal style and manic promos. They were also massive in Japan and have main evented the Tokyo Dome. Vince chasd them for years before he signed them and was so impressed he even imitated them with Demolition. They become the fourth and fifth wrestlers on my list, all of whom are legit Hall of Famers (the proper one). It seems ludicrous to me that they haven't been picked already.
I give you The Road Warriors
WHAT A RUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSH!!!!!!!
Team Flah;
1. Shawn Michaels
2. "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase
3. Stan Hansen
4. The Road Warriors0 -
With the brothers Hart it seems stupid for me not to go with the best sibling tag team of all time and the greatest Promo of all time
Scott Steiner and his brother
No youtube in China. This sucks because I can't see any of my Steiner being amazing moments but essentially, Steiner was ****ing unreal in the ring with his brother, has a physique that any wrestler would kill for and is the greatest promo of all time. It's not even close. As a tag team these guys were massive in Japan and America0 -
