the Draft is a highlight of every year. one of the greatest parts for me over the last couple of years has been the education i have received on talent on offer around the world - talent i may well have never been aware of if it wasn't for this draft over the last 3 years.

last year a certain individual came to my attention.
a man who i hadn't known before, but endeavoured to learn more about as he intrigued me so,
a man who encapsulates every thing you need in a modern sports entertainer.
a man who Vince would kill to have on his roster.
a man who is an ex-pro football player.
a man who is an MMA expert.
a man who adds a little something different to my roster.

a man who, to put it far too simplistically, is Goldberg with a fúckload of personality.

    the man's name is...
    Bob Sapp

    bob_sapp.gif

he's the first African American to win the IWGP Heavyweight Title.

but what makes him so enticing a pick is not necessarily the titles, it's the fusion he represents of 'kicking your ass into next week' and 'entertainment'. he's funny. he has personality. he has a sense of humour, and he can entertain the crowd. and he's built like a fúcking tank.

as i say, Vince McMahon would kill for him, and the irony is, Sapp was on his development circuit back in the day.

what also makes him great is his MMA background. he brings a legitimate, believable threat to anyone, even if he's relatively unknown to many. his look, his skills, and his presence will ensure he's taken notice of.

here's his confrontation with Tyson (another link to one of my roster btw ;))

here he is versus The Great Muta (note the entrance!)

and check out this commercial ;)

    Slick's Roster

    Stone Cold Steve Austin
    Jake 'The Snake' Roberts
    Arn Anderson
    Tully Blanchard
    Brian Pillman
    Ray 'Crippler' Stevens
    'High Chief' Peter Maivia
    Bob Sapp

Round 6 is done and dusted so it's time to get Round 7 under way. Before that though I should say that myself and gimmick are of the view that there are too many invalid picks being made in the game and that there should be some consequence/reprimand for making an invalid pick, which doesn't happen at present

With that being the case, from now on if a participant makes an invalid pick, i.e. someone not allowed under the rules of the game, you lose your pick for that round. If you make 3 invalid picks over the course of the game you face elimination from the contest.

As the game progresses there are likely to be situations where people make a pick not realising that the pick was already made. We are not trying to penalise that but rather picks which do not meet the stipulations.

We hope this will lead to greater care being taken over whether picks meet the criteria outlined.

Now that's out of the way here is the draw for Round 7:

    Round 7 Draw:

    1. Spongey1975
    2. Voltwad
    3. flahavaj
    4. Ger.C
    5. Cactus Colm
    6. CMPunked
    7. Thebostoncrab
    8. Bounty Hunter
    9. Dieselqueen
    10. glenjamin
    11. SlickRic
    12. Furious-Red
    13. Dare 2 Defy
    14. Mr Nice Guy
    15. campo
    16. Bubs102
    17. Teamshadowclan
    18. waltersobchak
    19. JP Liz
    20. Diabhal Beag

So then Spongey gets this round under way and will be followed by Voltwad. Good luck and happy pickings.

i'm delighted to announce the next additions to Slick's Wrestling Federation. someone will hopefully correct me quickly if i've made a mistake and these guys have been picked, but on my research, it seems they haven't.

former AWA and WWF TAg Team Champions.
both of them, former Intercontinental Champions.

these guys will bolster my mid card no end, and/or my tag division if i so choose.

    i give you...
Strike Force (aka Tito Santana and Rock Martel)

    Santana_Martel_belts.bmp
Rick Martel, for one, had one of the most ridiculous, heel-tastic, pompous gimmicks ever, and could work along with it. a very underrated performer. one of my first memories of wrestling ever is his blindfold match with Jake Roberts - them trying to find each other, and Roberts DDT-ing him the moment they touched. ridiculous match, but Martel somehow made it just about work, along with jake of course.

Tito Santana was just an all-round solid worker, and it could be argued that he had enough of a fan following that he could have, in a non-Hogan era, made the step up at some point. a more than worthy IC Champion in his day though. he had the Ricky Steamboat aura about him; the crowd found it very, very hard to ever boo him.

here's the two of them against each other in a wonderful little match.

    Slick Wrestling Federation...so far...

    Stone Cold Steve Austin
    Jake 'The Snake' Roberts
    Arn Anderson
    Tully Blanchard
    'Loose Cannon' Brian Pillman
    Ray 'Crippler' Stevens
    'High Chief' Peter Maivia
    Bob Sapp
    Tito Santana
    Rick Martel

    kofi-kingston2.jpg

I can't think of a better time to bring in Kofi than now. A great wrestler with an awesome move-set, Kofi is now D.W.O bound

    Pro Wrestling Illustrated
PWI ranked him #26 of the best 500 singles wrestlers in the PWI 500 in 2010

    World Wrestling Entertainment
World Tag Team Championship (1 time) – with CM Punk
WWE Intercontinental Championship (3 times, current)

Going to pick two guys who were tag team champs in Mid-South Wrestling in the early eighties, who later went on to become singles icons in their own right.

The first guy is one of the great 'what ifs' of professional wrestling...

    20.jpg

    Magnum T.A.

Magnum T.A. was a hugely popular wrestler who was being built up for big things in the NWA before suffering a terrible car accident that paralyzed the left side of his body and forced him to retire.

    As Jim Ross explains:
If Magnum T.A. had not been severely injured in a car crash, he would have been a multiple time NWA Champion and most likely a multi-time WWE Champion. Mag was a future Hall of Famer who still may be inducted some day. Terry Allen, his real name, was a student of the business and learned psychology from a variety of greats including Bill Watts and Dusty Rhodes.

As well as Magnum I am also getting a much more familiar face to modern audiences...

    21.jpg

    Hacksaw Jim Duggan

A guy with charisma that most guys today could only dream of, he is still very over with today's audience as his sporadic appearances prove. The winner of the first Royal Rumble and a guy who was a good, solid hand in the ring to boot.

I think these two will be a popular, capable tag team for my roster and if I desire to break them up down the line well they can be good singles guys as well.

    MNG roster thus far:

    1. Triple H
    2. Christian
    3. The New Age Outlaws - Road Dogg & Billy Gunn
    4. Bruiser Brody
    5. Jumbo Tsuruta
    6. Big Van Vader
    7. Magnum T.A. & Hacksaw Jim Duggan

Here's a guy I actually thought was picked a good few rounds ago, and seeing now that he wasn't, I'm shocked, to the extent I'm reading and re-reading the list of picked people to make sure I'm not messing up my vote <_<

He ranked joint top in a WWE.com article for MOTY 2010 and is probably one of my favorite young heels in the WWE at the moment.

as i said in the Discussion Thread, this was tough. there are still some great talents and characters left in the pool even at this late stage.

i've gone for a man who epitomises great talent, and who had a character so brilliant, so controversial, and so antagonising...a character who elicited reactions from the powers in the highest echelons of UPN so strong, that the character had to basically be killed off.

but he was a man who was pencilled in to go over The Undertaker of all people, then Batista at PPV to become World Champion.

    yes, he was that over.

    i give you...
    Muhammad Hassan

    Muhammad%20Hassan.jpg
after making his debut in December 2004, as a Middle-Eastern American who felt put upon by society due to Arab heritage, he had one of the quickest rises ever seen in WWE.

by April 2005 (4 months), he had been pencilled in as World Champion; and as i said, going over Undertaker and Batista in the process.

with victories in-between over the likes of Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit, his was definitely a shining light.

his interrupting of face promos with that God-awful chanty music illicited such a ridiculous reaction from the crowd, as did his 'arms up' gesture towards Allah, as did his yelling promos, as did everything about his character. he played it to perfection.

a sign of how over he was as a despised heel was this at the Royal Rumble '05.
here's the infamous segment which ultimately got him let go. he prays, guys in ski masks come out, beat the shít out of 'Taker, and the guys carry Hassan out.

the London bombings happened after the taping, but just hours before it was shown on UPN.
here is the end of his career...bear in mind, before UPN's intervention, Hassan was supposed to win this match, then go on and beat Batista.
and for kicks, here's a sample of his promo work; this is with my main man, Stone Cold Steve Austin...more than holidng his own i must say.
and Chris Benoit...i love the way he pretty much gets the public to boo the line 'all men are created equal'.
the only blot up until the Taker stuff, was Cena fúcking burying him in 2 minutes during his proper 'SuperCena' run.
a wonderful character, the consumate heel, i have great plans for him. it's a pity I can't book him to get revenge on Taker :D

be considered the number 1 contender for a (major) world title

win the WWE Intercontinental Title (and hold it three times)
