& that pinball I got recently is a prime example of stuff , STILL, being thrown in skips.
Another friend in Bundoran approached me with 2 cabs going in the skip recently too (jamma and a driver) . I haven't the space so I passed them on to another collector but so much of it has been dumped .. not to mention gone overseas ...

Try the casino's in town, they have basments of old stuff. mostly just rotting away, I worked in a casino and some of the slots are over 20K in price so the old machines mean nothing to them, I got 2 astros from one that I passed to mitch as i'd no room etc.

Tried that in a few places, might as well have been speaking to a brick wall. Asking some Russian or Chinese bloke about arcade games... Not a breeze of a clue. And considering they treat everyone like an enemy combatant, good luck!

Nothing to lose though, beyond being on the receiving end of a spinning pile driver from some zangief look-a-like :p

Broadway amusements on O'Connell street. Ciara is the manager and all old arcade games are gone.

Barneys amusements on Talbot street. Gerry is the owner and said all games are gone.

Empire amusements across from O'Connell bridge. This has changed hands several times since I did a mini raid 20 years ago. The original owner Edddie is long gone along with all the arcade kit.

D2 casino / automated amusements. Owner Billy skipped/dumped all arcades. These guys had a lot of cabs for rent out in the likes of leisureplex and all were skipped (we salvaged a few from the skips 20 years ago)

I looked in the door of the bowling alley in bray last week , they still have the two electrocoin duets. There was a space invaders cab in there too and not the new giant yolk.

I bought a few bits recently of a guy and was chatting and he told me this .. he knows an arcade/club locally to where he is, that when it was originally built they had to put the cabs in through the unfinished windows upstairs. It’s been closed for 15/20 years I think he said and there is no way at the minute to get the cabs out. Now I dunno how true it is , he seemed sincere, but imagine what’s in there !

It's probably worth a try alright. My uncle used to work in a casino years ago. I was always in helping out, sweeping fag buts of the floors ect in the snooker Hall, turning on and off the coin ops. Back in the smoking days of course. I'd get paid with free credits to the games lol. I was happy and he didn't have to get off his arse. Win win :)

I always remember the sound Mortal Kombat 1 made when it was plugged in and loaded up.

I think I got one of these, which casino was it?

Tried my hand at putting a CP overlay on. It turned out pretty well. I got the bulb for the coin reject button in Halfords

took a while to get right but I finally have a final working version of my repro of the KNA6032601 custom IC used on Kung-Fu Master (and Tropical Angel) PCB top board.
    After the kna6034201 custom, that's 2 down, 2 more to go :)

There is defo something wrong with my supergun setup. I just tried a couple of boards in my cabs there that caused issues with the screen basically scrolling on the supergun and they where fine in the cab.

It has to be either the jamma psu( dirt cheap one off eBay ) or the portable tv I’m using.

Ive had that kind of thing before. One common cause of that "out of sync" thing is that the connectors aren't properly aligned.

Have a really good look after the edge connector and interface are joined, make sure all the tracks are perfectly on/under each other. Theres a bit of a gap on most connectors. Might help :)

Just to add, I had the same problem countless times, but in reverse. Things would work on the supergun, but then go wavy and scrolling on cabinet!

Cheers , it’s only on some games consistently though. I’ll check that out though and make sure. The joe and Mac I got off you is doing it. I know that’s fine though I seen your image and it works fine in the cab I tried it on. So has to be the setup I have for testing.

If its happening for ALL games on the supergun, its probably the tv/signal at fault.

If its only some games, definitely check the edge connection for alignment. After that I'd check voltages, maybe physically big games need more juice.

And good to hear it survived the journey :)

Rtype needs a minimum 4.6 for example, measured at edge. It gives the scrambled boot-up screen, then it goes black for like 5+ seconds before title. Its easy to think nothings happening before flicking it off again!

A no it’s not happening for all. But it consistently happens on the ones it does happen on if you get me. I think it might be both the sh*t jamma psu ( it was 20 quid from China and the little portable tv I’m using.

    Check out the image

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭beejee

Had a look there. Id assume the PSU is fine for now. Could very well be the signal/tv. Some tvs don't accept the scart rgb from a jamma source so well, but only on some games.

Go for a process of elimination and try a different tv (logging stuff around is a pain!)

If youre getting the same result on a different tv, then its getting a bit more complicated. Resistors on the supergun and all that.

But if you can narrow it down to just the tv, then it makes life simpler :)

Shouldn't there be a (V or H?) sync option in the OSD of that TV or a knob on old sets to stop the screen rolling?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,146 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

There is usually a secret menu on most old TVs where you might be able to fix the sync.
Is it just barely scrolling or whizzing along?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Joe and Mac is whizzing along. A blood brothers I have is scrolling. Weird. There’s nothing obvious on this tv for a secret menu. I’ve heard of that alright , unfortunately I don’t have the remote. Think the easiest thing is to get a different tv. This was a fiver or something on adverts. I picked it up because it was small.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,594 ✭✭✭BGOllie

are any of those boards bootlegs ?
there's a ton of jamma boots bootlegs that don't have video ground implemented. resulting in crazy "scrolling" effect and a seemingly out of sync symptoms. Check on the board itself is pin 14 (i think) is connected to ground pins on the board .

did a small vid about it a while back : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipVZtLHqj_4

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Joe and Mac is a bootleg yeh. I’ll check out the vid thanks !

Blood brothers isn’t though. That one might be broken.

It happens on a final fight boot I have as well.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,382 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

    Tested there -

Joe and Mac boot - pin 14 grounded
Final fight boot - pin 14 not grounded

Checked the supergun itself Pin 14 is grounded. Does that not mean it should be ok in the supergun ?

Both work fine in the cab. It’s only on the supergun they act up.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,594 ✭✭✭BGOllie

ok. jumper a wire across pin 14 on that final fight regardless :D

If other boards are ok in that supergun, I would say it's whatever sync those pcbs are outputting are not TV friendly . it's a common issue with some PVMs too , although in that case you can adjust the sync through a menu.
A quick patch could be to put a 220fu cap on the sync/ground and see if that helps or try a new monitor setup.

Put a ground wire on final fight boot. No joy still the same. Time to get rid of the tv I think.
