Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Rather healthy democracy that 3 parties share the lead, good times.

Demographics clearly showing a big FU to FG/FF with SF gaining

Recession not forgotten about and the Housing crisis pressing

Yes lads, we know it's an exit poll and not an actual result.

You have told us about 67 times in the last 10 minutes already

Your the one with the problem.

I’ll be just fine. You will have the problem if Sinn Fein ever get into power as they will destroy the country economically. Miheal will be the next Taoiseach and the recevery will continue

That was 2011 and 2016. It's equally possible people are ashamed to admit vote for FG based on their govt performance in the last 9 years, and SF given historical issues.

The thing is, our economy is in good shape and pretty much full employment levels, so not a bad state in reality, despite the well publicised social issues.

I see SF in a government I say next time. Let's see what they will do

IRA stuff doesn't bother me. It's their unrealistic policies that bother me. It seems to be fashionable to vote SF these days, they appeal to the Facebook type outrage dwellers.

There ought to be some sort of test before some get a vote.

Rte and the media’s dirty campaign the last week backfired big time by the looks of it.

Think it was 33%. Probably should have run more candidates!

Here's the overall Exit poll for first pref vote question.

    Shocked about the next band!
It seems the social media thing wasn't all bluster.
Interesting if the want left vote left thing works out, pbp could do well.

Fg to still be ruling party I reckon. Leo gets 4 more years under the same terms
sf surplus to damage the left rather than help. Interesting count tomorrow

Can FG /FF and a few independants form a government and still leave SF in opposition ?
It's going to be a tedious count I'd say

As a Brit living in Ireland the SF vote reminds me so much of the Brexit vote back in the uk. Neither manifesto remotely adds up and I feel like people know that half of what is promised won’t be close to being delivered but I guess it’s a protest vote. Interestingly lots of young ones on the vote

.... waits for my first Brits out

We will bury the bondholders...actually we won't.

National debt of €42500 per person, yes we have turned the corner right in to a ditch.

This means Ireland has one of the highest per capita public debt levels in the OECD, the report says, and is also elevated compared to Irish historical standards, leaving the country vulnerable.

It's a bizarre argument that some people are throwing out. And I really thinks it's because these people are just getting their "facts" from targeted social media and party fliers without stepping outside of this.

That's possibly what could happen as a means of keeping Sinn féin out of government.

    Confidence and supply again, perhaps?

Odds gone to 12/1 for that. FF/SD/Lab/Green now the favourite marginally

The shinners will stay in opposition , there not capable or don want to be in government ! Especially a rainbow government

Do not underestimate Mickeys desire to be the next Cork Taoiseach and the pressure he’ll be under from his own party to go into gov with SF. FF/SF with health and housing given to SF. That’ll sort them out.

It would be a completely new election, they can run more / run different candidates as they wish. As can everyone.

One would think that Sinn Fein would transfer to FF more than FG. I would expect FF to get the most seats

That does seem to be the problem. From the RTE figures, it certainly looks like we shall have to raise the voting age to 25+ before permanent damage is done to the country.

Biggest party for the under 55s . Upping the age to 55 might be too drastic.

I know what your saying but I don't think it's a direct comparison. Very different reasons for voting for them.
It's mad how SF have turned things around for local elections.
