Jaiswal reaches 150 - great innings. Root is not at it today, runs flowing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,561 ✭✭✭MFPM

Bharat has given that away, like a few of his colleagues today. Jaiswal on 179 and yet no one else has even made a 50!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    India will be quietly satisfied....

English batsmen will be under real pressure to perform... first session tomorrow will be ultra important... England need very quick wickets.....

India get north of 400... be pressure on England

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Jaiswal and nothing else for India. He threatened to do that in the first game but couldn’t get going again the next morning. Rohit as the senior batsman and captain has been very disappointing so far. There’s a mob starting to form for Iyer and Gill. And Axar at six is too high. Kohli, KL and Jadeja can’t return soon enough for them.

England will be happy enough. Spinners loose but that’s to be expected given how inexperienced they are. Anderson on the other hand showed all of his today. England missed another pacer, asking too much of Root to open.

100% England could really do with the extra pace man…

all about early wickets…. England need to be batting before lunch I reckon.

wont be easy…. Ravi Ashwin has 4 or 5 test centuries even if he is a number 8….that said there is precious little to come after him so if England can make an early breakthrough they are into fellas averaging single digits so they should have them knocked over pretty easily.

given the age of Anderson, Stokes not bowling, should have gone with two frontline seamers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 127 ✭✭InsideEdge

Apart from the fact that the wicket is giving no help to seamers and using Atkinson wouldn't make any sense. India have a wicket prepared that will hold for a day and a half and then begin to disintegrate to help the spinners. This game was all about winning the toss, India's game to lose now. England actually bowled well and just waited for most of the Indian batters to give their wickets away. Jaiswal threatened to take the game away from England in the first game, he's doing it now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Pitch should hold longer than that, three days at least before it goes. I would have went Robinson over Atkinson, he can bat and bowl tight similarly to Anderson.

  • Registered Users Posts: 127 ✭✭InsideEdge

The pitch had two covers on it in the last two days before the game, where normally it would have one. That shows the ground staff were very concerned that it was far too dry and would break up by the end of the second day. Robinson is no where near what Anderson can do, even at 42 years old.

It’s giving little help to these group of spinners… 76 overs of spin bowled. 5 wickets taken by the spinners.

    1 wicket every 15.2 overs…. They need a plan B.

you have Joe Root, a part time bowler bowling as a front liner….16 wickets in 27 matches vs India.

not a wicket per innings, not a wicket per match so….

Australia have played a couple of fast bowlers when they play in India…. They’ve also played on occasion just the one. But the difference is they have Nathan Lyon who took 8 wickets in an innings there last year. England don’t have that luxury of having an experienced world class wicket taking spinner in their ranks…

Root… batsman who can bowl, no batsman was ever heard saying… “ shît they are giving it to Joe “

Hartley, Bashir & Ahmed who are woefully under experienced for the task that faces them…. From what I recall there isn’t even 5 test caps between all 3…. Yet they are supposed to go to India, and ‘ because, spinners ! ‘….

a heap of inexperience plus a now medium fast bowler 41 years of age who in 30° heat…… a fair number of overs he’s only in the early 80’s…

Day 2 just about to start, India will be looking for around 450.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

India batted well so far but two rather large slices of luck, saved from losing one wicket Jaisiwals by DRS by about an inch, ball just clipping the top of the stumps… and an edge just evading leg slip.

Anderson gets Ashwin as I type, the tech helps England this time….. jeeez Anderson rolling back the years, line, length and movement, quick too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

    Jaiswal 202* out of 375/7

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

Jaiswal out now for 209. Bit of a silly shot near the end of Jimmy Anderson's spell, but hard to be critical of his overall effort. 383/8

England scoring quickly but 3 down now, Crawley 76 and Root 5, 114/1 to 123/3.

And Pope soon after to a great ball from Bumrah. England were in such a dominant position until Crawley's rush of blood. He looked like doing what Jaiswal did and threw it away. Two gingers have a job on now to rebuild.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,561 ✭✭✭MFPM

Bumrah doing a number on England here. England are mirroring India's innings here loads of good starts except Jaiswal went on to make a huge score.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Bumrah is a special talent. Unplayable really.

England require another miracle, batting last it will have to be a big one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

It won't happen, they batted first and third in the first test, as I type 166 behind, no chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yeah England are donald ducked. Got 1-1 written all over it.

England batsmen didn’t show up. One half century over their first innings & a low ball total. Tail wiped out in double quick time too.

So much time remaining in the test.

Joe Root is seriously struggling in the series with the bat. Even his body language is that of a guy very short on confidence…. Not what you are accustomed to seeing

Bumrah has Root's number and when you get a few low scores, suddenly the confidence goes.

Crawley was playing supremely well and his wicket just completely changed the game and Bumrah was simply unplayable today. Easily the best Indian pace bowler that I have ever seen. His unorthodoxy makes him difficult to play ala Malinga and he just puts the ball where he wants to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Wonder how the day will pan out. My gut feeling is again that England will have a tough time getting enough wickets and quickly enough to leave a getable total. Probably need to restrict India to around 200 max which I can’t see happening.

India bat all day they’ll end up with a lead around 450-470… which will win them the test and some.. so much time left, no hurry.

difficult to see as how unthreatening the English bowlers have been, that they’ll be able to make the necessary inroads… but shall see, maybe a new day, new ideas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Root opening the bowling. If I’m an Indian batsman that’s exactly who I want to see.

Rohit Sharma gone, that was brilliant from Anderson, cracking delivery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,561 ✭✭✭MFPM

Gill finally steps up! Good 100, India lead by 343...barring a collapse England will be chasing 450.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,561 ✭✭✭MFPM

Lucky wicket that for England. Gill out for 104.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,561 ✭✭✭MFPM

Suspect India have enough runs but their lower order have been poor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Such a drop off from Bumrah to Mukesh at the other end. So easy against him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Gillespy

England need 332 runs, India nine wickets. Gill puts it at 70:30. Seems high for England that but that’s a measure of what they’re like these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 355 ✭✭StormForce13

The sooner that Kohli gets back, the better for India. He has the discipline that so many of their entertaining batsmen lack.

Of course if he's not coming back until the 4th test, it may be too late!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Shame Duckett got out, he was going brilliantly. England could do with Rehan Ahmed sticking around for 40 mins in the morning… hes no mug with the bat he has a first class hundred to his name and a healthy first class average so it’s possible…

Plus for England is time is on their side, they don’t need to go nuts….still advantage India though, next session be interesting…. Wonder what the temperament of India will be if England are say 4 or 5 down but needing 100 runs or so….

If England need 100 with 5 wickets left, India will be in a blind panic. Kane Williamson thrilling as ever has now blocked his way to 30 test centuries

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Gillespy

And Ravindra made his first century. It's the makeshift South African team so a good opportunity for the Kiwis to stat pad a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

For sure, crazy selection for South Africa because its clashing with t20 slogging tournament. Not much slogging in most of the matches, because the sloggers can't deal with seam movement and swing. Plenty of low scores in that tournament. One crowd got 52 all out. Sam Curran still getting belted all over the world. Nothing changes. Kane should be scoring quicker against Saffas 2nds, but he had a career strike rate of 51. Class player and all that, but life would pass you by watching him compile a score.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

NZ cruising vs South Africa….the SA attack looking very average. NZ 300/3… so unless something catastrophic happens to them NZ are probably batting SA out of the game now… 7 wickets left so…. NZ hot favourites.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Umpires again refuse to call a wide, the delivery only stays on the cut pitch by about 6 inches…

“The ball will be considered as passing wide of the striker unless it is sufficiently within reach for him/her to be able to hit it with the bat by means of a normal cricket stroke.” No way could it be reached, and wasn’t

    🤷‍♂️ umpires in 2024.

Yeah I was hoping for him to get the treble hundred, that’s one of the most impressive cricket batting performances I’ve watched, especially when you consider it’s what, his 4th or 5th test…. ! Funny thing is he got out to one of the worst deliveries he faced all innings, played a rank tired looking shot to it…. But great great innings…Guy is 24, fuuuuk.

here is an interesting link… highest maiden test centuries…. Ravindra doesn’t make the list but an interesting look nevertheless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

In the English vs India test it looks like Rehan has been told to go out and play shots rather than stand and block, probably sensible. In that heat if it’s mostly just left to Crawley he’s going to get pretty tired, pretty fast..actually comes down the pitch to Axar, 4, same next shot 😎

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Rehan gone, deserved more luck than he got. DRS screws him by an inch on umpires call, the pitch though cost him that wicket big time, not the bowler. Would have expected that to bounce a foot higher at least….

lots of inconsistent bounce this morning, Bumrah getting loads too.

England just slogging away their wickets now. KP telling us all how to play. Commentators rattle on a lot, they said Rohit is brave. He must have charged into a burning building and saved a few orphans overnight. Some gravy train they are on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Brainless from Root to throw away his wicket like that. Very un-Root like. Maybe he has instructions from Stokes to play more positively during the innings ? Either way, silly… Crawley was well set and scoring freely, why the fûck not just support him ? rotate the strike, punish the bad balls by all means, but reverse hacking like a …. I dunno. Stokes and Root needed to remember they has a long assed tail there…. Advantage India now. Be a real tough get from here. Maybe or I’m presuming another flaw in Stokes captaincy, there is a time for gung ho and a time for considered action plans / tactics…. The only tactic needed was ‘ be positive ‘ not be careless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

Crawley out to a dodgy LBW. Never looked out 194/5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

Bairstow gone as well 194/6 at lunch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

    Stokes run out now 220/7

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,561 ✭✭✭MFPM

Bumrah gets his second wicket in this innings. India should wrap this up quickly now.

Bumrah cleans up Hartley. India win relatively easy. Ashwin's wait for 500 wickets goes on. Ten days to the next test.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭Gillespy

It's a really enjoyable series so far. Some outstanding performances, Pope, Jaiswal, Bumrah, Anderson and Foakes wicketkeeping. India have got a lot of grief for their test pitches in recent years but first two have been really good. In this game India had a cheatcode with Bumrah and was the difference. As well as Jaiswal and Gill batted, England win that without Bumrah. Toss of course too was a help.

Series could be a classic. India are still favourites but England have shown enough in the first two games to say they won't have it all their own way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    England will be disappointed.

with both batting innings sub 300 scores.

Over their two innings, the only player to score even a half century was Crawley, he did twice, no centuries.

106 runs is a comprehensive enough defeat.

that said Jaiswal’s double hundred was something to behold especially given his youth and inexperience, just turned 22 a few weeks back and Gill I think it was who got the other hundred….

    series set up nicely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,813 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

NZ all over SA.... 459 lead and 110/2 in their second innings....

Of course SA with several absentees due to T20 commitments at home.... ridiculous...

No surprise the ground despite being one of the most picturesque in the world and absolutely bathed in sunshine is about four fifths empty...

Basically watching NZ vs an SA 'B' team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,561 ✭✭✭MFPM

Bizarre ODI in Canberra. WI accumulated 86 runs in 24.1 overs with opener Athanaze making 32 of them, there were 13 extras so the other 10 batters contributed 41 runs! Australia knocked the runs off in under 7 overs .
