    Warring Egos

Alec Baldwin, Kelsey Grammer to Play Old Frenemies With 'Warring Egos' in ABC Comedy From Modern Family Duo
Alec Baldwin may be conceding his gig as Saturday Night Live‘s President Trump, but his next character’s ego sounds just as big.

ABC has given a series order to a muti-camera comedy starring Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer as two of three men — former roommates in their twenties whose “warring egos drove them apart” — who decide to come together several decades later “for one more run at the lives they’ve always wanted.” The series is being planned for the 2020–2021 TV season.

As reported by Deadline, the untitled project is written by Modern Family co-creator Chris Lloyd and Modern Family EP Vali Chandrasekaran, who will executive-produce the comedy alongside Baldwin, Grammer, Jason Schrift, Matt DelPiano, Tom Russo, Adam Griffin and Jeff Morton.

Baldwin is coming off an Emmy Award-winning run as SNL‘s Trump. He previously won two Emmys for playing 30 Rock‘s Jack Donaghy, a role that earned him eight other nominations.

And best known for playing Frasier Crane on both Cheers and Frasier — a role for which he won four Primetime Emmy Awards, along with 11 other nominations, between 1988 and 2004 — Grammer has also played memorable roles on shows like The Simpsons (as Sideshow Bob) and Boss (as Tom Kane).

(Bonus fact: The two actors have appeared together on TV before. Grammer played himself in three episodes of 30 Rock.)

    Cowboy Bebop

Six Cast In Netflix Live-Action Remake Of Cult Anime TV Series
Geoff Stults (Little Fires Everywhere, 12 Strong), Tamara Tunie (Black Earth Rising, Dietland), Mason Alexander Park (Hedwig and the Angry Inch National Broadway Tour), Rachel House (Thor Ragnarok, Soul), Ann Truong (Strikeback!, Hard Target 2) and Hoa Xuande (Ronny Chieng: International Student, Top of the Lake) have joined the cast of Cowboy Bebop, Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the cult Japanese animated series. The space western hails from Tomorrow Studios, Marty Adelstein’s joint venture with ITV Studios, Midnight Radio, writer Chris Yost (Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnorok) and Sunrise, the studio behind the original series.

The six join previously announced cast members John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, Alex Hassell as Vicious and Elena Satine as Julia.
Based on the worldwide phenomenon from Sunrise Inc., Cowboy Bebop is the jazz-inspired, genre-bending story of a rag-tag crew of bounty hunters on the run from their pasts, as they hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals. They’ll even save the world…for the right price.

Stults is Chalmers, the epitome of a Western lawman. He is also Jet Black’s former co-detective in the ISSP’s Homicide Division. He wears a chronic smile that makes you want to punch him square in the face… especially Jet. And that’s only partly because Chalmers is dating his ex-wife these days.

Tunie plays Ana, the proprietor of the hottest underground bluesy jazz club on Mars. And while she acts as a surrogate mom to Spike, there is nothing warm and cuddly about her. Cool and intense, Ana is definitely not a woman to be trifled with.

Park portrays Gren, Ana’s right-hand person. They run the front of the house for Ana’s jazz club. As capable with their wit as a glock, as confident in a dress as a suit, they are a Bowie-esque embodiment of 22nd century handsome and seductive beauty.

House is Mao, the Capo of the Syndicate’s “White Tigers” family. Despite, or perhaps because of, her blue collar background, Mao is more cunning, adept, crafty and deadly than her counterparts.

Truong and Xuande are Shin and Lin. Dressed to kill (because they do), Shin and Lin serve as Vicious’ twin Syndicate henchman. Despite being fearful of their volatile boss, they are fiercely loyal to Vicious in his quest (for reasons we have yet to understand) to take down Spike Spiegel.

    DMZ

DMZ Adaptation, Based on DC Comics, Snags Limited-Series Order at HBO Max
Civil war will officially be waged at HBO Max: The streamer has handed a limited-series order to DMZ, an adaptation of the DC comic book series by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli.

Initially ordered to pilot in October 2019, the four-part DMZ series is set during a second American civil war that leaves Manhattan a demilitarized zone (DMZ), destroyed and isolated from the rest of the world. Rosario Dawson (Marvel’s Luke Cage) stars as fearless and fierce medic Alma Ortega, who sets out on a harrowing journey to find the son she lost at the war’s onset. Meanwhile, Parco Delgado (Star‘s Benjamin Bratt), the popular and deadly leader of a powerful gang in the DMZ, wants to rule this new world — and will stop at nothing to secure that outcome.

Throughout the series, “Alma must contend with the gangs, militias, demagogues and warlords that control this lawless no man’s land,” the logline reads. “In doing so, she becomes the unlikely source of what everyone here has lost: hope.”

Roberto Patino (Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) will serve as showrunner and executive-produce with Ava DuVernay (When They See Us); DuVernay also directed the pilot episode. The cast also includes Hoon Lee (Banshee), Freddy Miyares (When They See Us) and Jordan Preston Carter (The Haves and the Have Nots).

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to bring this epic to the screen with my boundary-pushing partners at WBTV and HBO Max, a sublime cast led by Rosario and Benjamin, and my partner and friend, the inimitable and ever-inspiring Ava DuVernay,” Patino said in a statement. “DMZ offers up an explosive playground which, more than anything else, exalts the resilience of community and the human spirit. I can’t wait to welcome the die-hard fans of the comic books and new viewers alike to this intoxicating, haunting and inspiring world.”

    Killers Of The Cosmos

Aidan Gillen To Front Genre-Bending Discovery Cosmology Series ‘Killers Of The Cosmos’
Game Of Thrones and Project Blue Book actor Aidan Gillen is to front an ambitious genre-bending dramatized documentary series for Discovery’s Science Channel in which he plays a detective examining dangerous phenomena in the universe.

Deadline understands that the six-part series is being produced by Warner Bros-owned UK production company Wall To Wall and has been shooting across the U.S. during the coronavirus pandemic. Filming is still underway, though post-production has begun on the show.

Sources said that Gillen will feature as a Raymond Chandler-style detective who hunts down existential threats to humanity in a specialist factual series with a graphic novel-like twist. The project is working titled Killers Of The Cosmos.

Discovery declined to comment on Killers Of The Cosmos, but it is likely to premiere the show next year.

I know why they do it though. to be sure the people mentioned know they're being mentioned and who by.

    Finding Forrester

NBC Eyes Finding Forrester Series, With a Major Mentor Change-Up
NBC is developing a series adaptation of the Gus Van Sant film Finding Forrester, with a couple of changes to the late Sean Connery‘s titular character.

The 2000 movie starred future Blindspot star Rob Brown as Jamal Wallace, a basketball player who, because he scored exceptionally high on a statewide standardized exam, is sent to a prestigious prep school in Manhattan. There, he eventually befriends reclusive writer William Forrester (played by Connery, who died in late October).

The prospective NBC series — which is being written by The Chi co-executive producers TJ Brady and Rasheed Newson — meanwhile “examines the cost of success and the price of redemption through the unique bond between two gifted Black writers: a homeless 16-year-old orphan who leverages his basketball skills to hustle his way into an ultra-competitive elite boarding school, and a reclusive lesbian author whose career was ruined by a public scandal.”

They probably won't do that though - just finish on the sixth book. The writers are heavily involved in the show so it's unlikely they'd condensed their own work.

    Soldiers Of Fortune

Brendan Fraser, Tom Welling & Elena Anaya To Star In TV Remake Of Action Feature ‘Soldiers Of Fortune’ For SVOD Viaplay
Brendan Fraser is to star in The Professionals, a loose remake of the Christian Slater-fronted action movie Soldiers of Fortune for Scandinavian SVOD service Viaplay.

The Mummy and Trust star is to front The Professionals, based on the Jeff Most-produced film, alongside Smallville’s Tom Welling, Wonder Woman’s Elena Anaya, John Wick 3’s Saïd Taghmaoui, Inglourious Basterds’ Ken Duken, Force Majeure’s Lisa Loven Kongsli and Das Boot’s August Wittgenstein.

The ten-part English-language series, which has just begun filming in South Africa and Ireland, was commissioned by Viaplay with German broadcaster RTL II pre-buying the free-TV rights.

The Professionals is set against a backdrop of international espionage and corporate sabotage in the 21st century’s privately-funded space race and follow Welling as a hardened former counterintelligence officer Captain Vincent Corbo. After their advanced medical satellite explodes on deployment, billionaire futurist Peter Swann, played by Fraser, and his fiancée, medical visionary Dr. Graciela “Grace” Davila, played by Anaya, turn to Corbo. Corbo assembles a team of experienced professionals to investigate the incident. They learn that any combination of Swann’s business rivals, corrupt governments officials, and a shadowy crime syndicate could be behind the attack and represent a continued threat. Duken plays a Europol agent seeking to thwart the security team’s efforts.

The first three episodes will be directed by Spooks: The Greater Good director Bharat Nalluri. The series was created by Jeff Most, who has produced features including The Crow and The Specialist and it is loosely based on Roadside Attractions’ feature film Soldiers of Fortune. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Face/Off producer and writer Michael Colleary will serve as the series’ showrunner and head writer with Katy Most, Lwazi Manzi and Aoife O’Sullivan producing alongside co-producers Kim Williams and Natalie McAuley and associate producer is Jessica Smith. Jeff Most, Tristan Orpen Lynch, Michael Auret, Howard Cohen, Eric d’Arbeloff, and Jennifer Berman exec produce alongside Herbert L. Kloiber, Thomas Augsberger, Cosima von Spreti, Daniel Wagner, Maxim Korostyshevsky, Bharat Nalluri, Fredrik Ljungberg, Brendan Fraser, Tom Welling and Elena Anaya.

The series is a production of Most Media, Subotica, Spier Films Production and Roadside Attractions in association with Jeff Most Productions, Highbridge Production, Tele München Group and Viaplay.

Tele München Group is handling worldwide sales via its subsidiary TM International, which are part of Fred Kogel’s new company, which brings together Tele München Group (TMG), Universum Film, i&u TV and Wiedemann & Berg Film. It will launch the series at Mipcom.

“This is the kind of television that couldn’t be more timely or topical as it imagines billionaires using their wealth to deploy private military units to achieve their political and business goals,” said Jeff Most.

Roadside Attractions’ Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff added, “We could not be more thrilled about the cast and creative team behind The Professionals. This is the second series, the first being Lionsgate TV’s Dear White People on Netflix, that we’ve helped bring to television based on one of Roadside’s theatrical releases.”

Brendan Fraser & Tom Welling looking their ages now, it's one of these European funded shows like Crossing Lines where they use a few American big names with European cast and make it feel like it is a US series.

Terrible so far but part of me likes terrible TV and I do like Brendan Fraser.

All I noticed about the Irish locations were the number plates, which had dodgy digits before the Dublin D registration letter, one was 840 something, and I think another one was 127. They could have at least tried :D

It's one of those programmes where I only watch it to see if I recognise the locations, like Primeval where dinosaurs were on the rampage around Powerscourt. :pac:

Dark Side of Football and Dark Side of '90's Culture

Vice TV Expands ‘Dark Side’ Franchise With Football & ‘90s Culture Spinoffs
Dark Side of the Ring has become Vice TV’s most-watched show and the youth-skewing broadcaster is now expanding the franchise.

The cable network has ordered two spinoffs – Dark Side of the Football and Dark Side of the ‘90s. The two series are currently in production and will join a third season of Dark Side of the Ring in 2021.

This comes after Morgan Hertzan, EVP & General Manager, Vice TV told Deadline in April that the network was looking to explore new strands for the franchise.

Dark Side of the Football will shine a light on stories that live in the shadows of America’s favorite sport. It will explore the sometimes flawed men behind the masks, the coaches, teams, and leagues who control their fates and the untold story behind bizarre and tragic off-the-field events, facts that have often been hidden to shield fans from discovering unsettling truths about the game they love. The series is produced by Jailbirds producer 44 Blue Productions.

Dark Side of the ’90s will look at the most captivating pop-culture moments, trends and personalities of the decade through interviews with people who studied the time period. Each episode will dissect the nostalgia, uncovering the surprising dark truths underlying the glitz, the glamour and the headlines. The series is produced by America’s Top Dog producer Railsplitter Pictures and Battle of the Blades producer Insight Productions.

The second season of Dark Side of the Ring launched at the end of March with a two-part special about the story of Chris Benoit, who in 2007, killed his wife Nancy and seven year old son Daniel before hanging himself. Other stories included the murder of Dino Bravo, the controversial “Brawl for All” tournament that led to career-ending injuries, the feared career of New Jack, David Schultz’s violent run-in with a 20/20 reporter, the death of Nancy Argentino, Jimmy Snuka’s girlfriend, the inside story of wrestling’s ultimate tag team partnership Hawk and Animal; Herb Abrams’ fanatical attempt to build a wrestling empire and the devastating story of Owen Hart’s stunt that went tragically wrong.

The show is Vice TV’s highest-performing series since its launch.

“We are thrilled to expand the Dark Side franchise and take a harder look at the untold stories of two our our favorite cultural touchstones: football and ’90s nostalgia. Both topics are rich with controversial characters, subjects, and events that are ripe for investigation,” said Morgan Hertzan, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Vice Television. “Dark Side of the Ring beautifully lifts the veil on the most gripping stories in wrestling, and I cannot wait for audiences to see what we uncover in our next iterations.”

his marks the TV drama debut for Hart who also executive produces the eight-episode series.
