Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You have to start as a first year regardless of some training or not. A qualified sparks wouldn't be experience with esb's networks so it wouldn't make sense

Well they either started again as a first year, and would have to do phase 2 again, or they were taken on temporarily as part of the fas scheme with esb to help people finish their apprenticeship. This was people on phase 5 and 7.

Im not sure, it hasn't been mentioned on here in awhile. To get to do it, you have to go through fás. You have to be on the list that your not in work.

Test started at like half 9 and we were finished about 11.10 . . . . .its just the verbal one, picking the right words and stuff then the maths kinda one then the mechanical one and the visual one where ya have to estimate which two objects are the same. Just tests 1-4 as it said in the letters that came in the post

I thought more would have applied. Doesn't that number normally apply each year?

That's just the amount of applications they actually look at, regardless of how many apply. That's what I was told anyway

Thats from the horses mouth at the tests on saturday.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 66 ✭✭360ts

Gipo: So they actually cut down the number of applications to 1000 for aptitudes?

Well got through the aptitude tests and got an interview now for july also have one for the DAA. But still woundering is the training you get with the ESB alot different to what you would get in the private sector. Meaning if I did serve my time with the ESB, and then went into the private sector would it be all totally new to me or does what you do in the off the job phases cover everything?

Hi Can you tell me where you apply for an apprenticeship in the DAA?

Where will the degree be held and will we be paid during that time.
I was in DIT Kevin Street talking to staff during the week. They told me that the ESB had block booked places on to 2 electrical engineering degree courses there.

No, not for either of these two courses for well over 10 years.

Really? Interesting move from the training gurus in ESB, in that case!

Hey if you find out anything about this apprenticeship will you please let me know, as im in search of an apprenticeship and would love to work in the airport.
Does anyone know what they do up there? I know its a huge place and effectively its a small town but do the electricians look after everything or would it just mainly be runways. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

When we get our offers this week, will we be told who has been chosen to do the engineering degree in two years time? Where will the degree be held and will we be paid during that time. Will the college fees be paid by ESB?
You won't find out till you've done some exams and they see how you're progressing. Also but not the decider are leaving results.Fees are paid and you get some sort of income but not sure of the scale of the salary.Great opportunity if you're young/only leaving school.

Yes, you do the same courses and exams in Fás/college as every other training electrician. You will also other things that are just esb related like, pole climbing, working with higher voltages etc

Does any1 know what will be asked in the interview??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭bassey

Same crap as at any interview really, what do you know about the company, when have you been part of a team, when have you been in a situation that you could have handled better, what made you wanna be an electrician, oh and how do you wire a plug.

Just go on about team work and safety, if you've ever been on a construction site before go on about all the safety aspects of it

hi, can anyone let me know what was asked after the interviews on July 2nd have taken place please have mine later in July and am keen to find out what the likely questions are.
    thanks

    THE MONEY:

I started when there was an agreement that gave us 360 per week for the first 3 yrs, then 550 per week in 4th yr. It is now the standard industrial wage. whatever that is 200 or something per week. But if u work outside dub, u get Eating on site allowance... which is at least another 50 euro... inside dublin, they pay bus fares... about 30 per week or something. When u go to fas in phase 2 4 and 6, they give u an extra 200 per week. (called subsistance) ((Was great for me in phase 6.. 800 per week! :) )). Theres also 50% off ESB bill and some other stuff, like free clother and tools etc.

For the interview, wear a suit and bring ur qualifications. Preach safety and team work. And i guarantee u will get in... I'm an expert at interviews, I turned down a job for the fire brigade.

Any more questions, pm me or email or whatever u do on this thing!

    Hey Spark,

Not sure if I'm reading this right - for starting off is it 200 a week they are paying?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 936 ✭✭✭bassey

Your basic pay will be about 190 a week

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 106 ✭✭Outburst

    Thanks for the reply Bassey

Do you know when it would go up (and by how much) and if I would be stationed in dublin for the whole apprenticeship?

    Much appreciated!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,340 CMod ✭✭✭✭Davy

It would go up every 12 months, roughly €80-€100. So if you start in sept 2010, it will be each sept after that.

You could be sent anywhere, their is depots all over the country.
