Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My A&L interview was very much based on experience too - it's a very personal interview so the questions are based on your past internships and work experiences, rather than learning off specific competency quesions that everyone would have learned. Also, it goes without saying, but I think having a good opening is very good since it's a blind interview and it essentially sets the tone (and what you're open to being asked questions about) for the reamainder of the interview.

Mine too, I basically set out my experience in the first question which set the tone for the rest of it.

AMOSS are particularly bad with replies. I interviewed with them previously, if you don’t hear within 3 weeks of closing date of applications, cross them off.

So has anyone heard from them this time around?

Anyone have any experience with the Matheson interview process?

The email is fairly sparse on details so just wondering does anyone else have info/tips?

  • Registered Users Posts: 74 ✭✭amusicalfrog

Also does anybody know if you can access your matheson application now? I did all of my applications in a 3-hour binge and i have no recollection of what i said in that one specifically and i wouldn't mind looking over it before the interview

From memory there were two rounds of interviews. First round was an interview with two partners and was a typical interview e.g. tell me about yourself, why Matheson etc.

Second round consisted of two interviews with two different partners for each interview. Both interviews were relatively similar to the first interview.

Process may have changed this year so maybe ask what HR what the situation is. Good luck with it!

Be keen to hear what other people thought of the MHC interviews? I felt there were a fair few curveballs thrown in

What sort? Mine was ok, generally about my experience with a commercial competency question at the end

Mine was less experience and more competency/scenario based which I hadn’t been expecting. I can never gauge how well/poor I’ve performed in them! Forgot to ask when they would be making offers- do you know?

Anyone heard from DE about an offer? How long do they usually take?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23 MrAlex123

Did anyone else find A&l didn’t really ask questions about experience? Mine were more personal based?

    Got me a little worried.

What was even more worrying is I wasn’t asked “Why A&L”. Has anyone else experienced this ? In any of my other interviews I was always asked “Why choose this firm?”

That is a little odd. My entire interview was heavily based on probing questions relating to work experience, with the "why A&L" question spinning off into a fairly substantial discussion on the wider activities of the firm.

Did they just not follow up on any of your past experiences from your intro?

I wouldn't worry too much though, the 'blind' structure of the interview gives partners a wider scope to explore avenues which they feel are best suited to particular candidates.

Oh jesus, I was driving when I seen the notification and nearly lost control of the car. On the 29th I'm setting my phone on loud, if i get a call with (01) prefix I'll be delighted, if i hear an email, then chucking phone out the window.

On that topic, anyone know if Matheson will be one or two rounds this year?

I’m actually guessing it’ll just be one. They were the last to get back and the big 5 have all agreed to respond to candidates on the same day, the 29th. What day is your interview?

    anyone already interview with Hayes?

I sat my remaining Fe-1s in October but cant say I'm too confident in having passed them all. Is anyone else in the same boat and how are you addressing this in interviews?

Do training contracts tend to be dependent on passing them this sitting or is there such thing as deferring it?

A lot of them would be dependent on you having passed the FE1s but bear in mind, most offers will be for a Sept 2020 start, if not later. So you’ll have time to get at least one more sitting in if you’ve failed one or more :)

I'm in the same boat, did 5 in October. I basically say that I'm confident I got them. My guess is that I'll be repeating 2 in March. Hoping to have secured something before/on Friday week when the results are out. Guessing places have different approaches. Pretty important to get them in March so you can start in September.

I wouldn't be too worried about that, for Eversheds, they said if you weren't confident that you passed some of the FE1's, they wouldn't have a problem deferring for a year if you give HR a lot of notice.

Bear in mind though, if everyone could just defer their contract for a year, they'd be in a sticky situation. Also, other firms might have a different outlook on this.

Work your ass off to pass them, but don't panic if you need to defer for a year, the general consensus is that they are quite understanding about it.

A&L have the same approach. There were 13 interns pending the FE1s in March. If they didn't get them they would get a paralegal role for a year. All 13 passed in March.

Anyone have any tips on what to prepare current affairs wise for a Matheson interview? V nervous

  • Registered Users Posts: 47 starfishxxo

Thanks, that definitely helps calm the nerves somewhat! Keeping the fingers crossed for the 29th

I did. Very traditional interview. Tell me about yourself. Asked about my experience mainly. Nice people. Receptive to answers even when I didn't think they were great answers. Good luck!

  • Registered Users Posts: 165 ✭✭Daly29

RDJ still taking applications. I don't have my FE1s which is a prerequisite so not going to bother applying I don't think

Just had my McCann's interview. Such a lovely experience with two very genuine, nice people - not sure if that's just them being nice or if we vibed, but it was the first interview that met that elusive goal of just feeling like a normal conversation. The whole thing sold me on the firm in a big way.
