I expected more from mr. wheadon, seems lazy sci-fi trope.

    Excuse you?
Since when is a Gossip Girl/90210 fan any sort of authority on the sci-fi/fantasy genre?
What Sci-Fi/Fantasy shows do you even watch Dower?
You didn't even spell Whedon correctly...
Get back in your box*

*I mean that in a lighthearted friendly sorta way, before any offense is taken...

you do realise the show is based on comic books, right, you know fictional storylines with advanced technology, magic and mysticism, thats the only real way it can play out, that or hes
    an interdimensional traveler
, its not really a big surprise,
Why did it absolutely have to be Agent Coulson and no other option though? I must have missed something watching Avengers because he seemed like just another bland suit character that are in all these shows but apparently he had a fanbase and was wildly popular judging by the way some articles talk about him, I dont get it.

Was just thinking, I hope they don't do what they do with some shows and make the series "not available in ROI"

well you can look at the show ABC have and see how many RTE show, it will give some kind of indication as what kind of deal they have together, RTE buy packages off the US networks, ive often seen shows starting over here that were cancelled months ago on US TV

from what i can see RTE have greys anatomy revenge and desperate housewifes all from ABC, their the ones shoved in your face most often than not, so id say its a safe bet S.H.I.E.L.D will pop up at some point,

RTE were also a fair bit behind on Person of Interest though, they only started showing season 1 when season 2 was finishing up in the US, so it could also be a wait but theyll get to it,

you have to remember RTE have to decide how to show as many US shows as they can, their only one channel showing stuff thats broadcast on 9-10 different channels stateside,

are you only joining that debate now, whos to say someone has to die, if the show is successful enough to get a second season then it successful enough to expand its cast,

bit of information on each character

    Chloe Bennet as Skye

    Hacker

''Most hackers are portrayed as weird outcasts who only know how to deal with electronics. She's a computer hacker who is not socially awkward. She's just as much of an actress as I am, she knows how to get her way.''

Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward

    Black Ops Specialist

''He's a one-man ninja, he's a Swiss Army knife, he has a tool for every situation. But he's got a gap in that skill set and that's anything involving other people.''

Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson

    Team Leader

''The last time I looked from this guy's eyes they were going dark fast. And now he's walking around with the story of this close call that he had and recovering from that. I don't know how you can go through what Phil Coulson went through — and he doesn't even know how near-death or full death that is — without being changed somehow. That's not something that's going to be ignored.''

Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May

    Pilot/Weapons Expert

''Something has happened to her at a level she couldn't cope with so she ended up doing paperwork. She's called in by Phil to join the team but she's reluctant to get back on the field because of her deep dark past. Every human being needs to play a kick-ass character like this.''

Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz

    Weapons Technology

''He designs and builds all the gadgets and technology. He's kind of lost touch with reality and spends a lot of time with Simmons — they can have the most crazy argument you've ever seen and then 10 minutes later it's like nothing happened. He spends a lot of time living in front of the reality of a computer screen. Now he's entering into this world that's more hands on.''

Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons

    Bio-Science

''She's always in the lab and works very closely with Fitz; like an old married couple. She's highly intelligent doesn't apologize for it and has come up the ranks very quickly.''

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD will debut in the UK just three days after its US premiere, it has been confirmed.
The ABC TV show will be broadcast on Channel 4, with the first episode airing on Friday, September 27 at 8pm.

3 days?.....it should be the next day, that would cut piracy alot as folks would just wait 24 hours to see the show on tv, but 3 days......hmmmm, i'd have to DL to get my fix!

3 Days is pretty good. Especially for free to air channel. Means you can watch it and then chat about it online before the next one airs in the States

Some interesting Irish related casting news: our own Ruth Negga has been signed up for an unknown recurring role. She's a good actor, I hope the role's decent & she does well out of it.

Other than that, there seems to be very little in the way of buzz or marketing around this show. Sure I've seen the odd TV spot during ad breaks but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of hype surrounding it. You'd think with the current fad for all things comic-book, Marvel would be throwing money and promotions all over the shop.

    Marvel's Agents of SHIELD

    Time - 20:00 to 21:00 (1 hour long).
When - Sunday 29th September on RTÉ Two

I suppose this'll help if it gets geoblocked in ROI.

Im not excited about this, dont like the direction Marvel has gone with the Avengers and this has got a very cheap feel about it from what Ive seen. Bet it wont be long before it descends in the same old villian of the week cliches like these things always do before cancellation, hope Im wrong though.

Plus no "BRAND NEW SHOW", "Next On....", "Tweet show now", "Are we totally blocking your screen yet?" popups that you get on US TV. I don't know how they can stand it.

yeah 10 minutes of unskipable credits for authenticity ;)

for those thinking of waiting all i have to say it ADS, why watch something over an hour if you can do it in 40mins

im looking forward to this, but i do fear what the network will do to the way the story is told,

Who? Do you mean Coulson? Yeah, let's watch the pilot. Fairly sure that's going to be addressed...

    Great fun, really enjoyed it.

Yeah, it was great fun. I like how they teased out the whole Coulson thing. Where was he really, if he wasn't in Tahiti?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,030 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Haven't watched it yet but glowing reviews around the web this morning..

.. with a definite vibe of Whedon quality from it - since he directed and co-wrote the pilot.

Here's hoping they don't drop the ball in further episodes with Whedon merely a producer role.. although his brother Jed and his fiancee is staying on the writing staff - both have been writers on an array of quality productions including Dr Horrible and Dollhouse.

The great writing was noticeable alright. Witty dialog, and some cracking one-liners. I hope that standard continues.

After the misery and disappointment that was the end of Dexter, Im so pleased to hear the initial reviews of Shield is so positive.

Yeah, exactly. It is somewhat explained, but teases to further mystery, which I love.

I think it would have been kind of weak without Coulson in it. Rest of the characters didn't seem great (although Skye is hot)

Yeah it was great & a show hopefully you look forward to seeing each week, the one-liners were really funny
'Agent Coulson walks out, 'Welcome to level 7, sorry that corner was really dark & i couldnt help myself', i think there's a bulb out!

    I really enjoyed it.
Different approach to the "superhero" in a way.
But can they maintain it ?
    we'll see

Great first episode, hopefully they'll be able to keep the standard up.

As an aside, I wonder if were seeing a shift by the broadcasters on this side of the pond in reaction to Netflix and torrenting in their scheduling? Having it on RTE and Chanel 4 within a week of it being first broadcast in the States is a pleasant surprise.

Maybe it depends if they can afford it? as this is a program that RTE probably couldnt get first over CH4 as opposed to Homeland, Revenge, New Girl etc. I got a streaming link on the BB forum, so i wont d/l as much.

You have GOT 1 day after the US & Homeland 2 days after the US, but didnt RTE have Prison Break in the same time frame as well, & that reminds me it was nice to see Shannon Lucio again

Thought it was really good, wasnt mad on his car going "back to the future" at the end though!

Lots off good Joss whedon stuff in it, dialogue etc, and Shepard Book making an appearance from firefly! Gunn from Angel too, Whedon really likes to give his past casts work!
