Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hard to see how India can win from here. They wouldn't really be able to set a target and then knock over New Zealand. Their only real chance is getting bowled out cheaply and then bowl out New Zealand quickly after that which at the moment is difficult to see.

Roughly 36 overs still possible to be bowled today but that's unlikely to be done with it already being 5 o'clock.

India going at a little over 1 run per over, they will just try and bat out today and 2 sessions tomorrow and secure the draw. Only way they win is as you mention, get skittled and skittle NZ for less.

Sun is out now and the pitch from the opening few overs is playing a bit easier too. It is after all essentially only the beginning of a day 3 pitch. Will be very difficult for New Zealand to get through India quickly.

Gill misses a straight one and New Zealand have their first. 24-1. New Zealand lead by 8 runs.

India effectively 19/2. Jamieson going at only 1 run an over.... Seriously tough going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

64-2 or 32-2 in the end. India have their two best batsmen in now. It's a long way away from being in any position to set up any kind of chase. Will be fun if they try, with Pant and Jadeja teeing off.

NZ on the other hand just need to continue chipping away. I think draw is the favourite, NZ can win if they get early breakthroughs.

Kohli a big wicket for NZ to get early on. 71/3.

    And another. 72/4.

India have to be careful here, only lead by about 40.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Good by Williamson to open with Jamieson instead of Boult. Batsmen can't cope with him at all. Nervous times for India now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

Great start by NZ...Jamieson bowling really well.

Unbelievable. India should be another wicket down. Dropped in the slips, easy catch as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Need to rethink Southee in the slips. Twice now this game. Especially when he's bowling at the other end. Dropping Pant could be very costly. Jamieson should have another.

India 5 down with a lead of 77. Gonna need the tail to wag.

Boult very lucky with an average ball down leg side then.

How often do long hops or leg side balls get wickets when the best balls are played and missed.

Lunch and India ahead by 98 runs with 5 wickets remaining. Draw still the favourite but an excellent session by New Zealand. It keeps them in with a chance.

Rishabh Pant is playing a very unusual innings, but if he sticks around, it should see India to safety.

Conditions seem to be moving towards the batters now. You'd think NZ would have an easier time than India did earlier on when they get in to bat.

NZ get Pant! Should have been out for 5....they paid a bit of a price, but could have been worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

That's what intent gets you. Reckless in the extreme with the position they're in. First ball of a new Boult spell too.

    NZ big chance now.

And another....India on the ropes now.

All over. 139 runs for NZ to win.

Didn't see this collapse by India. NZ big chance now...can they keep the lead under 150

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭boccy23

NZ - best team in cricket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

138 needed then. In 53 overs is a comfortable equation.

NZ bowling was top class. Williamson's changes and field placement all worked. Just the drop of Pant the only bad part.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

Hope they get these runs. Be great so see them win this having been robbed of the one day world cup! :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,049 ✭✭✭boccy23

Great that we will probably see a result as well with all the bad weather.

Aye NZ massive favourites here the only 2 results possible are an India win (unlikely) or a NZ win (very likely) be an interesting opening spell.

100 to win in 38 overs with 9 wickets remaining. Usually, you'd say no problem, but I'm nervous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Ashwin gets Latham stumped. Not the way an opener should be getting out really in a handy run chase.

Williamson survives with a review. I had him gone with umpire's call but it was missing.

Less than a hundred more needed now. Going right down to the wire if Ashwin has his way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

Runs coming now, few nice shots for Williamson. Just 14 needed to take a much deserved and in the context of the weather unexpected win.

    WORLD TEST CHAMPIONS!!!

I'm in shock, ever thought I'd see the day. Great to see Williamson and Taylor see us through.

NZ win by 8 wickets! Nothing against India but delighted NZ won!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,762 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Aye the Kiwi's certainly deserved a high profile cricket win with all the heartbreak they have had in recent finals. They were the better side by a reasonable distance and thankfully the ICC had the good sense to have a reserve day given they are playing in an English summer!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,158 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Does anyone know what the criteria for allowing the match to go into a reserve day was? The scorebooks I've seen online are just referring to today as day 6 but I presume if no overs were lost to the weather it would have finished on day 5 even if it had been a draw?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,546 ✭✭✭MFPM

England cantering to a win over SL it seems in the first T20.

Yep, not sure of the specifics, but it was put in place to guarantee 5 full days of play, so any time lost due to the weather would be made up on Day 6, the length of which would be determined by the time lost due to the inclement weather.

Also SL 129/7 in the first T20, England 81/1 off 10 overs, not long left in this one, strangely it seems not to be televised anywhere I could find!

    Need 25 from 42 balls

Jeez a canter and some but 129 / 7 was nothing close to being a competitive score

You don’t see many T20 internationals being won with 2.5 overs to spare.

Sri Lanka win the toss and block, 300 by lunch tomorrow would be a good total

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,762 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

19/2 off of 4 overs is a pretty woeful start, much the same as last night, Sri Lanka really need to cut loose somewhat!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,313 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Not a contest at all. Some of the softest wickets you will ever see.

Cardiff is an awful looking ground. So many great grounds they can choose from and they keep going there.

87/6, just gets worse and worse!

Well it's the England and Wales cricket board, so they deserve their fair share imo.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

90/7....Sri Lanka are going through that painful 'transition phase'...no competition for a team like England.

And Chris Jordan is still getting battered, how is he an international cricketer?

Messy old reply by England to a very easy target.
