Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Grand little starter fpv drone for under €50 delivered. Seems to be a clone of the mjx x708w, getting decent reviews.

I also picked up that non fpv Hubsan for under €50 from argos. It's got good range and GPS so should return home if needed. Motors seem to he a weak spot but very cheap to fix and upgrades possible too.
I've crashed it a fair few times and it's still flying along nicely.

This is a bargain thread for the mi Drone 4k, not sure you posted in the right place?

Didn't warrant a separate thread and I thought it may interest visitors here.
Also this seems to have turned into a discussion thread lately so I didn't think I was going to derail it too much.
Mods feel free to remove if not suitable.

Ah ok, no worries. I haven't noticed anything apart from items related to the Mi. Cheers for sharing.

I ordered the day before you and have the same tracking message, but that 22/12 update wasn't made on the system until Thu 4/1/18. I know cos it wasn't there when I checked on 3/1 Their description of the priority shipping method says 10-20 business days which is out the window by now. The delays in the shipping schedule just don't make sense to me, and it beggars belief that an event on 22/12 takes until 4/1 to make it into the online tracking system. A horse and cart would make better time.

Well the plan is to practice on the 2 cheap one's I got and then buy the Xiaomi. I've seen enough footage and reviews and I own a Xiaomi phone so I know reliability is not a big concern.
I'll probably wait until April to order and have it in time for summer.

Should it be cause for concern when my tracking details are the exact same down to the second?

Hmmm, I get what you're saying although the quads you linked are a totally different flying experience. Best saving the cash and learning with the mi Drone, it basically flies itself! I started off with a cheaper quad and it almost put me off drones altogether.

    Best of luck!

Not really, they ship in bulk so that's consignment will arrive into the European hub and then reshipped to us from the EU.

FYI, customs only affect us if the stuff gets stopped in Ireland. As I said before, nobody has been hit with additional charges when purchasing the mi Drone itself. I did however get hit when ordering the battery separately.

    Hope they arrive soon guys

Things from are slowly coming through for me. Just got an android box today I ordered in mid November and some fabric that was shipped on the 5/11. The postal services can't cope!

Sure the drones can't be far behind..

Same as that - mine also arrived back in Prague yesterday. Presumably it was dispatched without the controller and somebody pressed the return to home function :D:D

Lads just a heads up, do not order anything from TomTop. They are an absolute joke to deal with if something goes wrong. They are expecting me to ship this Xiaomi battery back to them at my own expense to Hong Kong (despite ordering from the German warehouse) which would cost more then the €85 i paid for the battery. So i'm just left with a €85 paperweight at this stage.
    Avoid at all costs

Yeah, haven't used them due to horror stories. So annoying that they haven't sorted you out. Did you try contacting Xiaomi directly?

    So the tracking entry

2017-12-22 19:24:36 Parcel arrival at Prague , Czech

    has just been replaced with

2018-01-09 16:48:46 Parcel arrival at Prague , Czech

Clearly the tracking information is bogus and they've failed spectacularly to deliver the package within the agreed window.

Thinking about threatening a PayPal dispute at this stage.

Thinking about threatening a PayPal dispute at this stage.

Understand the frustration but opening a dispute won’t get it here any faster. You’ll only be tormenting yourself. When buying from China you often need the patience of a statue. The tracking is usually a rough guesstimate I’ve found.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭11James11

Just checking this thread on the gearbest forum people seem to be waiting nearly 3 months for delivery

  • Registered Users Posts: 736 ✭✭✭Das Reich

I did opened a dispute on paypal for my drone ordered on the 12 of november, and they said they can refund me only on 172 euros as I didn't bought any insurance. So I will wait few more months and see if drone arrived before summer.

Who said that - PayPal or Gearbest? Not buying insurance wouldn't come into it if you don't receive the goods you paid for,

I've no issue with a package taking time to arrive from China if the price is right, but if it's going to take 3 months, they shouldn't promise a 10-20 business day delivery window. That's all I'm saying...

If you paid with PayPal you have the protection that they provide. That protection entitles you to a full refund if you do not receive what you paid for.

Forget dealing with whomever you bought the drone from. Deal with PayPal. Escalate the dispute to a claim and leave it at that. They will have 10(or 14) days to respond to the PayPal claim, if they do not respond you will be refunded by PayPal.

Yes I payed with paypal, but who answered was the customer service of gearbest. As I bought a spare battery that arrived already long time ago, I would prefer to receive the drone than the refund, so I will wait a bit more. Its frustrating the delay.

Anyone tempted to take her out in/above the fog?

I wouldn't if I were you. Fog is air saturated with water. It's close to freezing outside. You'll risk Icing up the drone and damaging it.

Thought as much. There's a few youtube videos of others doing it.
I'll keep her indoors for now :)

I was so tempted, no wind here at all. Hopefully the weekend will be slightly warmer..

I had it in my hand with that thought today, but noticed that 3 out of the 4 motors seemed "coggy". One would tun nice and freely with my hand, but the others, to different degrees, had a distinct notchiness to them, as if they had bearings on the way out. It doesn't have a lot of work done, so I hope it's not that.

Has anyone elses have that feel to theirs?

Yep, I have that feeling on my motors as I turn them slowly.....still flies fine. They were like that from the start too...

Ahh grand. I ran it for a minute to see if it was alright. Thought I saw it vibrate the giro a bit, like it would result in a jello effect, but it does seem fine. Good to know it's normal for the motors to be that way, and it's not just me.

My motors jump through the fields as permanent magnet motors do and when i spin them by hand they are ok but when I fly it sometimes has a bit of a highpitch noise sometimes which i think could sound like a dry bearing. Not sure.
I always observe them on shutdown to see if any slow down noticeably quicker or have any heat in them.

On a seperate note got revenue letter today for battery ordered on ebay.

Sent a screen shot of ebay to see if it is good enough.

There definitely seems to be differences in the motors although have no scratchiness or other strange sounds on mine. The motors are about €12 to replace but still expect it them to last at least two years of weekend flying.

Yeah, that will do. They just need a value so they can add the tax accordingly.. :(

My second drone is in portlaoise now ( arrived at 2am this morning - expect it to be here Monday ) - check your package on 17track.net

The faryaa.com latest listing says Parcel arrived at Prague, Czech

I ordered my 2nd drone on the 30th of November and went out on the 2nd of December

why are you angry about that?

customs are a part of ordering from outside of the EU.

Because No one else on this thread got hit for customs. It's always a possibility, but do you expect them to be happy about it. Angry or peed off about it would be reasonable.

I got my other half a DJI spark for Christmas and we are sending it back.
It cant go more than about 200M without picture breakup and the DJI software is a pain in the ass with warnings and constant firmware updates.

Its like having a nanny with the way DJI have built it and try to control everything.
For example in the US the transmitter has more power and you dont get picture breakup even if you go a km or two away. The spark wont even go 400M in europe. Yes you can hack it, but you shouldnt have to go hacking stuff to get it to work properly.

I think this one sounds like a great replacement. Anything but DJI tbh.
We loved the size and portability of the spark, but DJI nanny company ...

Anyone know anything as good as the spark, about the same size but not DJI and with better range?
Failing any suggestions i think we will go for the one in the op. Thanks op

Apart from a couple of €30 ones, I have only this one, so I can't really help you there. There's a drone forum on boards. You'd get a better help there I'd imagine.

Strange that you're not getting good distance. Did you try it out in the middle of nowhere. I think in more built up areas you'll get less distance due to interference. A buddy of mine had a DJI Mavic pro, and never had a problem like that.

A mavic would have better distance alright. The wifi signal on the spark is cut down for europe. Its terrible.
Thanks, i'll dry the other forum.
