Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The 23Z TAFs give S-SE winds gusting 45kts at Cork, 44kts at Connaught and 42kts at Shannon and Dublin tomorrow evening.

Also remember if this has no effect on Dublin then, it wont be made a big deal of or mentioned.

I see that Met eireann have issued a weather warning for this approaching system 0500 hours. It mentions force 8 winds:D She's definately brewing...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

Not looking quite as strong on the 0Z models. Met Eireann's forecast seems spot on.

The heavy rain will become widespread overnight and there is the risk of local spot flooding. Wet and blustery with strong to gale force winds along exposed coasts and gusts of between 75 and 95 km/h expected overland.

Showing up nicely on Sat24 now

Ship WDD3826 is located around 150 miles to the southeast of the centre at 09Z, along or just ahead of the warm front, within the tightest pressure gradient. Its report at 09Z gave 37kt southerly wind, drizzle, temperature/dewpoint 16/14°C.

Some strong winds will funnel up the Irish sea, sustained 35mph winds with gusts to 60/65 are likely along the east coast and Dublin region.

Its getting wild here just outside Waterford city, no rain yet but its gone very dark and the building is shaking with the wind. Weather station nearest to me is down but Dunmore East is reporting 54km gusts. You can see the webcam on the harbour here:

Rain isn't too far away now. Heaviest rain won't be until between about 9pm-6am. Wind should pick up until about midnight and then ease off.

although the storm on thursady last was very windy for most it wasnt that windy down here in carlow, generally the south east gets away with the worst of it from atlantic depressions, but i was wondering is there any chance of us gettin some strong winds from this tonight because its pretty windy already down here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,863 ✭✭✭Papa_Lazarou

We were the same in Waterford last week, not much of an event, but i have to say the wind down here today has been stronger overall than last week. Its been from 25km to 30km mean all day and getting stronger with frequent gusts in the high 40s (max 48km/h). Feel when the rain gets going soon the gusts will increase.

    More Detail @ www.waterfordcityweather.com

Edit: Just had a 55km/h gust ( New Station Record)

As Mick said above same applies here in Waterford, picked up a lot in the last hour.

I think the South/South East escaped the worst of the last storm (which were mainly south-westerly winds), today the strong winds originate from a south east direction, later veering south-westerly.

Met Eireann's aviation chart for midnight has the low centre of 965hPa located around 150 miles due west of the Connemara coast, with the occlusion lying over the country, roughly north Mayo to Waterford, moving NE at 20kts. There is a chance of thunderstorms in the west, nearest the low.
