Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Another 6.0mm from 9 to 10 and 1.2mm from 10 to 11. That's 43.4mm in 5 hours. Pretty impressive. Not sure if there was much rain before 6am?

Just wondering where are you getting those figures from as my usual source Ogimet have just 17mm in the last 24 hrs

Not exactly scientific research but its pelting down in Ennis!!! Flood defences will also be tested here!

From Ogimet's synops, 15 mm fell in the three hours between 4 and 7am. Won't know until after 1 pm exactly when within this time period the rain started. Synoptic rain totals are reported every 6 hours, so we'll have the up to date one at 1 pm.

53 mm fell at Valentia in 6 hours this morning. Rain started at 5am. They reported standing water on the ground at 7am.

A landslide has blocked the road between Killarney and Dingle this morning.

Yeah that's a tricky road when there is lots of rain ...

    http://ventryweather.com/

I think we escaped most of it ... rained alright but not the amounts that are reported

Most of the day is fine here now with occasional sunshine .... Wash is outside ........ (drying :-) )

Still no rain here in Dublin, fingers crossed it will stay that way!

It's like a stormy-ish day here in Dundalk, lotta breeziness and while there isn't a huge amount of rain it's big drops, seems like it's threatening to burst at any point.

Yes - our climate is rarely dangerous but it is oppressive:(

Rainwise tomorrow's system looks quite vicious!
Some areas could see 4 inches over a 24hour period I would have thought.
Met Eireann share the view and early warnings are indeed justified.
One to watch especially for the South coast

seems from the met eireann warnings the most at risk places are munster and leinster ....at the mo ....they just finished the flood defences here in carlow town .....the barrow floods nearly every year here , this will be its first real test , it looks the part, hope it works the part too.

Going to be some really heavy rain tomorrow and coupled with very strong winds in the east.

Going to be a truly brutal day from late morning.

I hope everyone planning to hike tomorrow in the east and south of the country is aware of this.

Parts of south and west Dublin could be in a rain shadow though, so it'll be interesting to see if there's a major difference between Casement and Dublin Airport.

Your sarcasm doesn't fool us! And yes, unluckily for you, met eireann have had the warning out to us non stoney walled mud hut dwellers for a good few hours now. It's all over the papers and the TV over here ;)

It will be very interesting here, usually bang on in the middle of the rain shadow from the usual SW'erlies and their associated rainbands. Different setup tomorrow though with the SE winds and a lot of precip on the models. I predict something really wet and floody happening somewhere between arklow and dundalk

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 17,135 Mod ✭✭✭✭cherryghost

I'm currently a bit worried about the precipitation to come. I live near the Shannon and was out looking at the water levels this evening. The lower pier is already completely submerged. Will keep monitoring the situation and provide some photos of any developments. Might have to get the sandbags out :(

Indeed, I tend to get a soaking here with winds from SE (to E).

It looks like most of the heavy precipitation missed us. It seems the heavy stuff is over the irish sea and Wales right now?

ha ha hope your right mate but whats more important i think is that its to push through and be gone by tonight unlike yesterdays forecast sayin it will stay till tuesday morning.

I'm confused - the current met eireann radar shows rain over all of Cork but it's dry here!

True could well do, though either way it still seems likely to dump quite a bit of water.
Although, because I spent yesterday clearing my gutters and making sure a drainage ditch out of my yard was clear, that usually means it will be quite dry :) (but it won't be).

I'm in work 6-2 today , hopefully I can cycle home without having to swim instead! Ha... Though I would love to see some really heavy rain here later!!! Ha 
