Firhouse is dry and clear with a temp of 2.4C up from -5 last night.

Significant thawing already underway as a lot of snow cover reduced

Lots of thawing yesterday - as the water dripped off the roof our green bin is now covered in icicles!!!

thawing in Palmerstown, Dublin. Lots of shifting snow and dripping icicles, don't know the exact temp, just glad it's here!

I'm in Kilkenny city. It's very dark out there. The sky is filled with dark grey, ominous looking clouds which seem to be moving quite fast but no wind down here on the ground, just a gentle breeze. No rain yet, but a bit of a thaw. Snow seems to be melting gradually and overnight green patches have appeared on the grass. The downpipe flow is steady but no discernible drip drip from anywhere else.

So Met eireann last night said Blizzards for Donegal, but the bbc chart and MT say it will be just inland Ulster that gets the snow, not looking good!

Ah well bring on the rain.

Got up to 0.0c around 2.30am, but fell back below until 3.30am when +0.1c was recorded, thus bringing an end to a sub-zero run that began on the afternoon of December 19th, so "almost" a complete week of sub-zero.

Currently 3.5c and a thaw underway, still 2cm of snow lying. Overcast and breezy making it feel milder than of late.

The thick snow that has been in the garden here in Cork since it snowed is thawing rapidly. The road outside the house is still white though, although further up the road I can see actual road.

virtually no snow left here now but roads in my estate are now a combination of ice and ponds of water. As my estate is all hills its vgonna be fun to drive on. Not raining yet but hopefully when it does it'll get rid of the ice.

More generally, I know the east and north got serious snow this past month but as a microcosm of the year that was 2010 look at the performance of the snow desert that is Cork:-

2005 - No snow in Cork
2006 - No snow in Cork
2007 - No snow in Cork
2008 - No snow in Cork
2009 - No snow in Cork
2010 - Large snow falls in Jan and Dec, other minor falls in Jan, November and Dec. Snow lying in pristine condition for about 11 days all told. Partial snow on about 20 days.

I know my 2010 stats are about the least impressive in the country but that's a vintage year down here that I might never see bettered in my lifetime.

Still lots of snow lying on the ground here in Dublin but have been listening to huge chunks of snow/ice sliding off my roof and crashing to the ground all morning!

Also, loads of water pouring down off the roof!

Kinda looking forward to it shifting myself, very hard to get around in.

Was driving last night with 5 people in the car. My car is low already and with 5 people it was very low.

A lot of cringe worthy moments when I could hear the bottom of it crunching on the ice

Weather station (WH-1090) not professional but temp always within .2 of a degree of the Airport until yesterday when there was a good difference, its far more exposed to the N/E up there

The thaw is underway, I suppose all good thing come to an end. If anybody told me that by the 26th of December I would have 30 consecutive days of snow lying in my garden I would have asked them to see a doctor.

Funny thing is that the snow that fell on the 27th of November may be the last to melt as its very compact at this stage after its fall from the roof.

No frost or ice left in Waterford City,no rain yet, temp is 7.2c but the wind has really picked up in the last hour, currently average is 26km/h with gusts of over 44km/h from a southerly direction. Should be an interesting day with plenty of high gusts later

Temperature is up considerably in Dublin 6 and the sky is pretty overcast. There is so much snow though it really is incredible and it is hard to imagine it thawing. It obviously will but it will take an absolute age to go.

I haven't looked out the window yet but I can hear it out there, sounds like total carnage, grey skies, dying snowmen...its just too awful...my pipes weren't frozen, my heating still worked, and it all looked so Christmassy...I don't want it to thaw!

Oh well at least i live in Scotland 10 months of the year, winter doesn't end there until April

if you have then icicles hanging from your roof get them down
i knocked a few of with a brush and they dropped like lumps of steel bar
they wer about 2 -3ft long and the noise of them hitting the deck
they would hurt ya

The Atlantic is bulldozing through at a rate of knots. The latest models are showing that the cold air is even putting up less resistance than expected. The temperature is already hitting 4 degrees in my part of Louth.

Are there any reports coming from the midlands as to whether this is falling as freezing rain or sleet or just ordinarly rain?

Looks like a very slow thaw here in Dublin 18, not a lot has melted. Surprised to see the snow still so deep and lots of snow covering hedges. It will probably be tomorrow before snow really starts dissappearing. There is just so kuch snow out there. Also very slow dripping outside, thought it would be s more dramatic thaw

Only a slight thaw going on here. The back garden and roof of car showing no real change as of yet. A bit surprised that it's not thawing out more quickly. Still love the snow though

Roof leaking. Downpipes and valleys have ice and the snow is melting faster than the ice. Water has nowhere to go and is pooled on the roof and coming through. Was up there with a few buckets of boiling water to get them clear. Still have a frozen pipe too and one that burst on Christmas eve that I can't get a replacement for until tomorrow as even Homebase isn't open.

Thurles, Tipperary.

Current weather.
Thaw has really set in temperature is 6c and all frost and ice has evaporated.

Very strange experience. At 01.15 hrs the pipes in my neighbours house burst and his house was flooded. Temperature was -8 celsius when this happened.
Thaw didn't arrive quickly enough for him sadly.
