Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I can afford a new car, could pay cash for a 7 series in the morning to be honest.

    I just don't get it to be honest. Unless your buying a Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari etc. every car is the same to me honest whatever the year. From your comment above its just like you bought a new car to show off.

    Or.. you just see a car as a "white good" same as a fridge, microwave tv.?

    Show off to whom? Strangers on the street? Pull another one, you're just digging at the bottom of the barrel there and clearly begrudging.

    I've liked the look if the car I now have for 2 years (since that marque came out) and always wanted one. Took one for a test drive at the start of the year and I was sold.

    It's actually a modest looking car, so no showing off. It's the inside that sold it to me. Fcuking love it, seriously comfortable and fun to drive.

    Although had to get it imported (via dealer so not a grey import) as there were no others in the country for sale at the time.

    Can anyone tell me what's the financial benefit of having a new car?

    Also why not go for a Ferrari, Lambo ,Porsche, Buggati?

    If you have 30k to spend on a new car you should have enough for above? Why not get one?

    There is none. Just like there is no financial benefit to holidays, drinking, smoking fags etc..

    People don't buy new cars to financially benefit. They are a luxury item, just like any other luxury in life.

    The holiday is a good comparison too. Value drops to zero straight away. 100% depreciation in 2 weeks is worse than any car ever made.

    Peace of mind & hassle free motoring.

    Maintainence, running costs & higher percentage of depreciation on those cars obviously.

    Having driven many Porches / Ferraris in the past (wealthy neighbours), I actually find my own car much more comfortable and subtle. You wouldn't look twice at it on the street.

    You might be able to get the shell of a car like that but some people like to drive the car occasionally.

    Sorry folks i still don't see why you would bother with a new car.

    Think of all you could be doing with the extra money. Whats a new car payment 500 a month or so or buy it out if you have the money.

    I just will never understand.

    No nothing like that, putting it towards retirement. A new car or retiring as early as possible, I know what i would do.

    i plan on retiring at 50.

    I can afford as many holidays i like a year, no problem. In any country in the world.

    I wouldn't like spending my money driving around Ireland.

    Someone did make a good point about people buying new cars. The more that do the more the market will be flooded, the better deal you can get.
    But you do not seem happy about this prospect.

    That's a change of tune from a car being a waste of money because it depreciated so much. Your travel depreciates 100% straight away.

    I actually find this hilarious, Sorry i dont spend 30K or more on a car.

    But like if your life is based on a car that something a fifth of the price would do you do you not think YOUR doing something wrong. Would you not rather retire early and travel?

    While your slaving away i'll be on a cruise ship multiple times a year.

    Tell us again about the cash you have that you could buy a 7 series with.


    How can you justify the all that spending on travel with zero return if the whole things is a numbers issue?


    How is a 30k car that still has value, a worse investment than a load of holidays with no value?

    Why not just spend a fifth of the cruise ship money and go for a day trip to holyhead? You can even get piss3d on the ferry and keep dreaming

    58K with a 10% bonus if you must so 65K really.
