Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Varadker saying we could have widespread immunity by September next year...

    Why so long?

I’ve a feeling all the extra swabs are hospital retests given the scale of certain outbreaks.

    I guess not.

Finland plans to vaccinate social and healthcare workers in January, and the elderly and at-risk groups in February, and the rest of the population later in the spring - according to their chief of the vaccination programme unit. Finland has only a slightly higher population than Ireland, so they'll be receiving similar amounts of vaccines from the EU rollouts - realistically we could see a similar schedule in Ireland as well.

We need to get to 70% coverage of the population, that's about 3.5m.

Rarely if ever talked about the IT problems when cases was overreported..

Cases have never been over reported on a total basis.

There have been backlogs cleared, but at no point have the total overall cases reported exceeded total overall swabs.

It took 3 days to fix an issue in part of the IT system of the company I work for only last year and that was a well established system

Nolan: "We have persistently high numbers of incidence in hospital and healthcare settings, particularly among healthcare workers".

There you have it, ah sure let's put traditional publicans out of business.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,635 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

Nolan does not expect case numbers to decline much further than this.

He's not being overly negative, but he did point that out - a fact that will be overlooked by a few.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,787 ✭✭✭Benimar

R number potentially as high as 1.

    Estimate is 0.8 to 1

Whatever about the pubs part, the healthcare part is fairly obvious, you can see on the HSE Ops report nightly what hospitals are having issues with high reported cases

A decent backlog is needed to coincide with the gastro pubs & restaurants re-opening tomorrow. Intimidate more people into staying at home.

Easier to make a booking so, silver lining and all that.;-)

Cases, hospital admissions and healthcare transmission are 3 to 4 times higher than they hoped at the ‘starting point’ of easing restrictions.

Asking people to limit contacts as much as possible.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,302 ✭✭✭✭stephenjmcd

Christ I've not watched George Lee in a while on rte but he says oh we've at least 100 cases not reported today.

Ronan Glynns words were "Up to 100 cases"

He's so excitable with the hint of negative news

Daily Mail reporter getting straight to the point: "Should people not go to restaurants tomorrow?"

Holohan, "We need to limit socialisation and discretionary contacts."

We're not going to stop living Tony, despite your best efforts to interfere.

Ah yeah, sure if you go to a restaurant and get infected and are asymptomatic how many people could you pass it on to before it's gone out of your system.
Tony is stupid to advise caution so we can all have a good Christmas.

Many days we had big backlog cases added into daily reported cases increasing 5,7 day average. I don't recall anyone in NPHET saying todays reported number has cases from from the week before which was more than likely IT issues also.

My point is I don't see the point of coming out about IT issues on a unreported number when those cases will be added in tomorrow or Saturday.

Italy almost touched 1,000 deaths today at 993, more than their first peak (921) but their infection rate is dropping so hopefully deaths follow the drop soon

Today they announced some pretty restrictive measures to prevent people moving around over the Christmas period including not travelling outside your home town on December 25th, 26th and January 6th and recommending no one visits someone else's house. Good luck to them with that.

What did he hope to achieve by asking it?

You got it in one. Which infuriates Holohan no end, he'd rather people have very little freedom of choice. Delighted for the masochist.

Do you really honestly believe that Tony Holohan's main motivation is to needlessly destroy people's enjoyment?

There were 56 cases recorded in Dublin, 26 in Donegal, 13 in Limerick, 11 in Kilkenny and 11 in Monaghan.

    21 cases denotified

Things really deteriorating in the United States. Record cases, hospitalisations and deaths.

They could break 3,000 deaths for today.

It's the main population centers leading the resurgence now again. The CDC is warning the coming months will be the most difficult and costly in US medical history. And by costly they don't mean financially.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,043 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

    "Stark warning from Philip Nolan.

If R number goes to 2 over Christmas... we could see 800-1,200 cases per day by mid-January.

Holohan says modelling data is what could happen. “We’re not trying to scare people... we’re implying very small changes to R number that we had before we went to Level 5.”

Not trying to scare people lol

Yeah right of course they are

George Lee: "We're back in a situation as we were in early October. I'm not comfortable at all with the numbers". Without even posing a question, just to be particularly agreeable to Tony.

Americans don't care about the loss of life there, I wouldn't expect Irish people to start caring about their situation.

Just had a quick glance at this evening's press conference and Six One, the usual sh*t with Nolan talking about a graph that we can't see.

George Lee jizzing himself over how worried the CMO is and about a "computer glitch" which has caused cases to be underreported. Really? Or did someone make a balls of an excel spreadsheet?

I wonder how many other computer glitches there have been during this.

Some mention of an issue with PPS number for vaccine rollout? Not sure as I wasn't paying much attention.

If he said that, then he's editorialising. His job isn't to feel comfortable or not comfortable.

These kinds of comments journalists makes, on air and on Twitter, just rub people up the wrong way.

Journalists aren't there to advise how people should live, they are there to report the information and hold those in power to account.
