We haven’t heard from J Mysterio yet today, his mind may have been completely blown after 30 mins down the VR rabbit hole! :D

Haha, sorry for the delayed response to this.

    giphy.gif?cid=790b76115d0cf948336d46616f9e20fc&rid=giphy.gif

Straight off the bat, I haven't really 'come to terms' with VR yet and have to use it a bit more to have a fully developed opinion. Rambling thoughts on experience thus far below...

I played it a reasonable amount last weekend, but didn't find time to play it during the week. I found it to be quite intense initially and could only play it in bursts for about 15-20 mins before needing a break and then stretching to about 30 mins later. I didn't feel sick or nauseous, but I did feel a bit spaced out and trippy aftwerward (almost a bit high). Looking at my phone was pretty weird after a go on VR.
I worked my way through a few of the games as follows
    1. The Playroom intro game
    2. VR Worlds Danger Ball
    3. VR Worlds VR Luge
    4. VR Worlds The London Heist
    5. VR Worlds Ocean Descent
    6. Firewall Zero Hour
    7. WipeOut VR
    8. Skyrim VR
Danger ball was cool. VR Luge and the London Heist were pretty forgettable to be honest. I enjoyed the Ocean descent but it kind of felt like an experience you could have had in Trocadero in London in the late 90's at the same time.

Being honest, I expected a little more from Firewall Zero Hour, but I need to give it more time as I only played it for about 30-40 mins total so far. I found it a little challenging to find flow in my movement, but that's obviously something that will require time to learn, and I haven't played around with the settings yet. I was comparing this to Rainbow Six Siege in my mind (which it is apparently inspired by). That's one of my absolute favourite games which I have sunken a lot of time into though. I only played the tutorial missions, so need to give it a longer play through and get into multiplayer.

Wipeout VR was a nice enough experience, but not sure what longevity I will get out of it. Wipeout was my first PS game back on the original console.

Skyrim was good and the scope for involvement in it is huge. I can imagine you could really get lost in this as you develop your character and spend more time in the world, so probably had most fun with this. I spent about 30 minutes trying to take out two giants with a bow and arrow, while hiding on a rock. I was surprised that some of the graphics felt so 'low res' though, and some of the textures were poor. Despite that, it's still good and I acknowledge it wasn't 'built from the ground up for VR'. I changed the default movement pretty quickly though, finding that I don't like the snap turning, which is a little immersion breaking and disorienting. Putting the game on smooth turning improved the experience hugely.

I hadn't really thought much about movement in VR before playing it but I see many games approach this in totally different ways. This is obviously something that is still being worked on across the board, as evidenced by that platform thing posted earlier. Haven't played Doom yet, but not sure I will enjoy the 'space hop'/ teleport movement (so that has held me back) and, as mentioned, not hot on the gradual/ snap turning either. Where possible, will definitely switch to smooth turning in all games.

I like the move controllers and the Aim. Where supported, they definitely help immersion. I've been sitting for all the games too and could maybe give standing up a go at some point, though it might feel a little odd! Maybe these games don't really require standing though.

Looking forward to playing it some more this weekend and will be giving Blood and Truth a go next.

So.. mixed feelings on my limited experience of PSVR thus far. Some of it has been great but, at the same time, some of it a little underwhelming. Some aspects of the system still feel like it's still early in development, but I guess that's exciting in it's own way, and harks back to the 'early adopter' point I made earlier, despite this being about for 3 years.

Great update! Personally I'd recommend giving Astrobot a shot after Blood & Truth is over. The graphics on that are stellar in terms of detail and crispness.

You'll find some games look really good graphics-wise, whereas others initially appear a tad blurry and take a bit of getting used to, but after an hour or so you'll generally be so immersed in the game that the texture resolution won't be too much of a concern.

I found the best way to play Doom was with the Aim controller. I actually think Doom is my favourite Aim game, though admittedly I haven't played Firewall as I only play single-player.

Got a loan of Blood and Truth, and have played the first 4 or 5 missions. Jesus it's something special. While I did get the very hard and unforgiving Crisis VRigade as I was wanting some Time Crisis action in VR, I think this is closer to Time Crisis. The details in it are fantastic, and the shooting is accurate and fun. Even the movement, which usually puts me off these games is grand in this. It does require some more polish, but it's an amazing start to what I hope is a long series. Maybe with the 3D Rudder they will be able to bring proper locomotion and add to it.

It's some of the small details which make this game so far, such as the vapes and how you actually use them. The reloading is really well done, and the gun placement is simple and genius. It takes a while to learn the 2 handed approach, but I'm finding it easy enough to get headshots with the pistols and SMG. Shotguns are fun, really hope there's a SPAS-12, or an AA12 would be amazing! The first driving mission, the dude on the bike and the car door, accidentally did it and it was beautiful! Looking forward to playing more of it tonight!

I'm not sure this is the solution we need.
I'd take thumb sticks on the move controllers over this any day!

Quite new to PSVR but really enjoying it, the ideas seem endless even with relatively early versions of this technology. Been playing through Moss, Eagle Flight and Doom.

Been getting lost in Ghost Giant since yesterday. Absolutely loving it and the hand movements are a delight to use. I could nearly play a whole game with just trying to get the basketball in! The sound, music and story are all great and a nice change from Doom, which I am still getting the hang of.

A lot of posters on this thread don't venture out into the VR forum to see other threads so here's a heads up for another thread to sub to.

Still playing through Truth and Blood, it's really a great game.

Thinking of getting Scraper: First Strike or Sairento next. But Scraper has yet to appear in the PS Store (in Canada) anyway and Sairento is almost the cost of a AAA game (but looks amazing).

So Polybius... I genuinely thought I'd get bad motion sickness from this, but no. It's a surprisingly relaxing game in some regards, but play well and it turns into a trippy no-idea-what-i'm-doing experience. Have 8 levels done, definitely will be doing more, and hopefully figure out exactly what i'm supposed to be doing other than aiming for those gates.

It does have an ending... haven't reached it myself but I think at that point you are so zen that you'll have transcended your physical being and become one with the PSVR

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,584 ✭✭✭circular flexing

Picked up Sairento and I'm totally blown away. The movement system is outstanding and the range of weapons means there's a load of different ways to approach each mission. I just discovered the bow and arrow, great fun

Anyone play sariento on the rift or vive?
I think I bought it cheap ok viveport and just wondering how the touch controllers with thumbsricks compare to the move implementation.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,624 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

Nope didn't get it on Rift, though I was thinking of getting it for the Quest until I read that it's a severely limited version on there.

I'll prob pick it up for PSVR when price drops a bit. I'm getting through my backlog in the meantime.

Judging by the comments, though, the movement mechanic is supposed to be great on PSVR.

Blood & Truth update today will bring New Game + mode, leaderboards and extra challenges. Time to fire it up for a 5th time I think :D

    I see Bound is.

I've a newfound respect for Driveclub VR now that I'm playing it with a Playseat Challenge and Logitech G29.

It's insane fun and I can't believe I bought it for only €3.50 or something!?

The single most immersive experience to date hands down.

You should try Gran Turismo if you think that's good.

Yeah I'll check out a sale. Isn't it just a solo drive rather than race though?

Pretty much, you can race 1 other car, but there's a lot of cars and a lot of tracks.

I just found it to be WAAAAY more realistic than Driveclub. I'm sure it would be fantastic with your setup.

Wipeout is class to be fair. It was one of the first games I had on PSVR. Felt like I was bossing it and didn't feel motion sickness at all...until I changed the camera to be locked onto the driver. First drop I went down and my stomach felt like it was upside down :o:D

Everyone got their No Man's Sky discs purchased in anticipation of tomorrow??!

I haven't even installed the game yet, so the VR version will be my first foray into NMS (same as it was with Skyrim).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,585 ✭✭✭Jerichoholic

I've had it since day one. It's a great game as it is. I'm starting all over again in VR. They are hyping it as the pinnacle of VR, as in the best example of VR there ever was.

So I'm freezing myself until the update drops.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,810 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Yeah, I'm patiently looking forward to the release tomorrow, once I'm home from work I'll be stuck into it, really looking forward to it!
