I've the vr over 18 months now, tried it a few times and literally had to stop less than 5 minutes die to feeling sick..so it's been in the box for approx 17 months

Want to give it a go again, what's the best layout for using is, am I best off sitting down or standing and am curious if people have felt so bad using it but quickly got better??

Have arizona sunshine and far point with the aim controller.. Tried rigs but never want to try it again, was on the verge of passing out with it

Hoping I don't have to put it back in the box for good or sell it

Start with some games with minimal locomotion and head movement (Astrobot, Worlds etc). Play seated for the first few games, there’s no real need to stand for the majority of PSVR games (some exceptions for this though). Place a fan somewhere in front of you at face height - this will help ease nausea. And ginger is really good for helping it too if you have anything around with it in it.

I tried Eve Valkyrie the first night I got the vr and I had to go to bed within 10 mins, was sick as a dog. I can play it now with no problems at all. As I mentioned earlier, it’s all about starting slow and finding your limit for comfort then work your way up - would also recommend using all comfort options if you are using a game with free movement like Fireall etc (so turn on click turn, vignettes and blinders etc) until you feel more comfortable.

Edit: Just to add, if you can avoid it don’t wear glasses with the headset closed fully - the lenses are very easily scratched. If you must wear them, don’t close the front section fully on your face.

Right. Well firstly Rigs and Arizona Sunshine are gonna be major motion sickness inducing experiences unless you have your "VR legs".

Most people develop a tolerance for VR, but you need to ease into it gradually and gradually build it up over a few sessions.

Start with something easy on the motion (but still fantastic) like Astro bot or Beat Saber.

    Even Superhot would be fine

Then gradually move onto the games with more extreme motion. In a few sessions you'll be much better and able to go back to something like Rigs.

A fan blowing on you to keep cool is another sure fire way to avoid feelings of sickness

Paranormal Activity would like to meet you, RE 7 is a comedy compared to it! :p

Started to worry a little after my impulsiveness got the better of me earlier.. but reading through the thread has got me excited again! Pretty cool to see a succession of familiar names be like: 'took a gamble here but think will be good', to - very quickly - 'this is amazing, better than I could have imagined'.

It is a reasonably big purchase though and I was having those same doubts: that it wouldn't work out for whatever reason, and that maybe I should go to the gym and save money. But the excitement is that this is where you imagined games going when you were a kid, and you talked about the future... And now you can actually realise that forgotten idea (and for a reasonable price too)!

I guess part of the hesitancy is also that it's still a very niche thing, but likewise to be an 'early adopter' (after 2/3 years it still feels like that :D) is also exciting! Not everyone has this kit. So, I still have a morsel of guilt there, but am increasingly confident this will prove a great decision and all my worries will wash away, to be replaced with a sh1t eating grin and an urge to share the good word.

The reviews for PSVR are incredible no matter where you look: game sites, news articles, aggregate sites, consumer reviews in shop websites. It's basically top marks ad infinitum.

I fully expect to report back here in the coming days of the revelation. This just promises to be an experience like nothing else, and available to you in the comfort of your front room!

I love it. Lots of games which you can dip in and out of and a good selection of incredible games.

One benefit is that there are lots of short games you can pick up cheap so you're not often committing to huge purchases and you get a nice cheap game that you can throw on every now and again. And if you don't like it, it's only a few quid lost.

    I haven't once regretted buying it :)

You can borrow some of my games after footie ;)

    Yeah pretty much.

I had the dream ever since I saw Lawnmower Man in the cinema, and then tried Dactyl Nightmare in Trocadero soon after.

We're living the future, it feels great. You do sorta feel a bit smug that you've already experienced what everyone will be doing 5 years from now (whether that's VR or more likely AR), and everyone else is living in the past with their pancake experiences ;)

'member playing on a TV? I 'member

(actually I lie, I still play PS4 on the TV... but less. My PSVR catalogue takes up 80% of my PS4 catalogue)

Hey Folks, thanks for the tip off about the Smyths deal, I picked it up yesterday. I have to admit that my experiences with VR so far were the Rise Of The Triad Virtuality thing that used to be in that arcade that was in with the Virgin Cinema and GearVR.

I fired up the Playroom VR software and I was blown away by the game where the aliens are coming from under the bed and you are manning a toy gatling gun, and then I fired up the level where you have to rescue the robots, 3D platforming in VR it's excellent.

I'm hoping to get a bit more time with it over the weekend. Really enjoying what I have played so far :)

You're gonna be blown away by Astrobot for sure

I think the slow adoption of VR is due to a younger audience. My nieces and nephews tried it and loved it, but they weren't blown away by it. Meanwhile, myself and the other 30+ year old gamers I know are astounded by it. Growing up in the 80s when home gaming started to become really popular, and sticking with it all the way up to today, gives a better appreciation of VR. It's far from perfect, and some younger people are not too impressed by it at all, but going from playing pong with 2 paddles on a tiny crt to being in the game with amazing graphics (for VR on PS), in the space of only 30 years, is mind blowing to me. Every time I put on the headset I feel like i'm 14 again stepping into the future. Very few things do that, and I feel bad for the younger ones who don't get this feeling.

Young people today have absolutely no taste, so their opinion on VR carries as much weight to me as the ****in postmans :D

We haven’t heard from J Mysterio yet today, his mind may have been completely blown after 30 mins down the VR rabbit hole! :D

As a side note: might start a spoiler thread for it separately if folks think it's a good idea.

It’s just that good haha I’ve done full cutscene playthrough twice, and on the 2nd run of just the sections now.

Wow - update - You can get the Mega Pack (5 games) and Blood and Truth for 229.

    Edit:

    aaaaand I took the plunge.

This is a really good deal. Just a word of caution for anyone else who picks it up. You may want to check if the voucher codes are in the box before you go home with it.

I purchased one earlier today and none of the voucher codes were inside, box was sealed too. I brought it back to the store and they opened up another one in-store and that was missing the voucher codes too...

Took a refund in the end as I didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to get the codes from Sony customer service.

€120 for that 3D Rudder. Cool concept, but pretty pricey.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,828 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I've been waiting for this. As soon as I can afford it, I'm buying it. I think it will completely change how movement games in PSVR are played, and can only benefit it. Yurt!

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,272 ✭✭✭✭Atomic Pineapple

Anywhere they keep an updated list of the supported games for the rudder?

Thanks, definitely too limited on the PSVR to be worth investing in just yet, but it badly needs it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,828 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I reckon we'll start seeing some proper VR games now that this is out. It was always something that put me off playing the movement games in VR, just didn't feel natural, whereas this should help with that. I'd love to try before I buy, but that's not going to happen either. I'm confident it is a good accessory though.

The need for an accessory like this could have been totally avoided by putting thumbsticks on the Move controllers! :D The AIM is perfect for movement in games but not widely supported.
