Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

IMO...Just been through a tough taper week every twitch, ache, sniffle will be magnified by a million percent. the week will be endless and the world might seem to be falling apart.
Vitamin C tabs the dissolve able type 1000mgs and hydrate well...
As long as you have the training done....prepare as you have been stick with it and go for it Sunday...

I’m going to the GP today so hopefully I should get all clear just being safe side I couldn’t go through the week waiting and seeing

**DCM18 ** Mile by Mile guide.. If it helps :D

Mile 1 the “Shuffle Mile”. Nervous smiles all round but we are on the way. Be careful of tripping and don’t do too much weaving in and out. RELAX
Mile 2 has a downhill from Christchurch to the river and pace can pick up.
Mile 3 slight uphill through Stoneybatter and careful of footing at first water stop. Lots of bottles on the road.
Mile 4 can get narrow as you enter the Phoenix Park, so just relax and settle.
Mile 5 to 7 through the Park. Slight uphill all the way but lots of room on the road to relax and take it all in. Now we are motoring. Shake out the shoulders to relieve tension and get to the #HAPPYPLACE.
Mile 7 at Castleknock is the first of the WELCOME villages. Great crowds, atmosphere. Now you know you are in a Big City Marathon.
Mile 7 to 10 has a few downhills back into the Park and will be quick enough. Don’t go MAD.
Mile 10 has the first decent uphill where you run under the Motorway. Take it easy and it will be gone in a few minutes. Lose time if you have to but don't fight it.
Mile 11 to 16 is back in town with crowds and water stations. Settle yourself. Analyse how you feel and what pace is comfortable. Take in the day and the crowds. They do help and lift the spirits. Passing halfway have a smile. On the way home.
Mile 16 to 19. Lovely area through Kimmage, Terenure, Rathgar,. Fairly flat. Great crowds and buzz. Keep the legs turning you are on the way home. Make sure to keep drinking and fuelling. Vital time coming up.
    * Mile 19 to 22 is Make or Break. *
Mile 19 to 20 Downhill first half of 19 and relax as nice pull out of Milltown for 2nd half of this mile. Just get up it handy and don't force it.
Mile 20 to 21 nice gentle downhill into Clonskeagh but take it easy and use it to relax and focus. You have come along way. We will get home.
Mile 21 to 22 is the toughie and just get up that hill at any pace but keep moving.
Mile 22 to 23 has a nice downhill on Fosters Avenue that you can use to get Heart Rate back on track and steady yourself for home
Mile 23 to 24 is reasonably flat except for climb at UCD flyover where you cross the Road
Mile 24 turn the corner at Merrion Shopping Centre. Focus, dig in.. It is straight from here to finish line. No twists or turns, No ups or downs. So 1 foot in front of the other and dream of glory. #IcanIwill
    Hope this helps…!!

Mile 23 to 24 is reasonably flat except for climb at UCD flyover where you cross the Road

The UCD flyover isn't even a climb! It's virtually flat!!

Does anybody know the gaps between the pacers crossing the start line?
I'm planning on targeting 4.10, but want to start with or just in front of the 4.20 pacers, so just looking for an idea of how much I might have in hand on the day if I manage to catch the 4.10 pacers after a conservative start (or even how close I would need to get to them by the end to hit my goal).

Any locals remind me of the bus number(s) from hueston to the rds.
I remember getting one a couple of years back that dropped me on the road right behind the rds.

They’ll cross the start line with in a few mins of each other as in the same wave. They’ll then be doing even pacing so 4:10 guys doing about 9:28 and 4:20 guys doing say 9:50 or so. I take it you mean when should you try and catch them? Maybe consider doing the first half in about 2:06/2:07 and then pushing on a bit to reel them in during the 2nd half?

I don't think they have prescribed gaps. Last year the 4 hour pacer was 2:15 ahead of the last runners in the wave. So in that case if you started at the very back of the wave and finished with the pacer you'd have run it in 3:57:45

I find that this is a part where you need to be careful. Even after the big hill on Laurence's Road, there are a few smaller climbs in Islandbridge and Rialto and then that long incline up the Crumlin Road.

Not quite true, to be fair. There's a bit of a drag, and the legs are tired at that stage anyway. It's a nice even incline though, and I always find they're a bit easier than a 'natural' incline with undulations.

I find the road after flyover is turn at Rte worse. Road is crap. Cars and buses flying against you to give you a nice headwind at times if you get that bus or truck

Flyover goes down. The up is a few yards up.

I think Lizzie Lee is running this year. Is Laura Graham in?

Gary O'Hanlon is in for the men, don't know who else.

    Paul Pollock isn't running either.

Sergiu Ciobanu, Gary O'Hanlon, Mick Clohisey all are.

Lizzie Lee & Kerry O'Flaherty, in the women's I think?

I'm not shooting anyone, just pointing out the obvious.

That's a downhill mile. It's downhill on the N11 coming from Fosters Avenue, then it's flat onto the flyover (ok, there might 3 feet of elevation gain) and shortly after that it's downhill on Nutley lane, which your man seems to have forgotten about.

It's the bridge over the canal a couple of miles later that can feel like Everest! :D

He’s not eligible, as far as I know. I was talking to him at The Lakes 10k & he said he wouldn’t be.
It was all awful for everyone last year; hope it’s all made v clear before the start this year.

I was planning on picking up numbers for a couple of friends at registration. Anyone know what I will need from them to do this? The official page seems to suggest that you can only pick up your number in person but I was sure there was something official in recent years where you could pick up numbers for others if you had certain documents...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 620 ✭✭✭Djoucer

You need their confirmation letter, signed letter from them saying who’s picking up number, and then person who is picking up numbers needs to bring ID.

According to their Twitter replies. https://mobile.twitter.com/dublinmarathon/status/1054729516495593473

We are driving up on Sunday for the first time ever. We used to stay in the Mespil every year but it's was getting more and more expensive.
The plan is still to park around that area but what time do they normally close the roads on the morning of the race. We will be coming in through kilmainham, dolphins barn and along the canal.
If we are in Dublin around 7 Will we be ok

Great to see such depth of quality in the men's elite field. There's also some Irish guys not listed (M. Kirwan, D. Mansfield, M. Ryan) who should run sub-2:25 also.

The opposite is the case for the women. Potentially only two Irish under 2:55 is poor.
