Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Joyce followed by McGill or Walden isn't a bad path to the QF for Ronnie. A couple of his bogey men in the 2nd quarter though. Comparatively nice match for Judd to get his arm going too, and a reasonable QF to follow. Hard to see him not making the semis at worst.

At first glance Ding & Lisowski got the worst of it. Ding-ballrun is a complete toss up while an in form carter, judging from the qualifiers, is not a great match up for Lisowski.

Think wakelin could beat Gilbert and Allen have his hands full with Lyu. And depending on Maflins mood on the day, selby could be vulnerable. Definitely a few easier draws there.

5 seeds dropped last year and probably see the same or possibly more again this time.

Good draw for Judd and Ronnie. They should be in the semi finals. But of course you never know, they might be gone after one match.

Much more of a bear pit for whoever else hopes to make the semis

On eurosport tomorrow 7pm. Probably the most dramatic, compelling day of snooker any of us have ever, maybe will ever, witness. Doesnt seem 8 months ago! Might be worth a watch anyway.

    Brilliant. Looking forward to that.

Neal Robertson will have no problems with anyone in his quarter of the draw in my opinion.

Selby has by far the worst draw. He'll have to beat Maflin, Allen, Higgins/Williams, O'Sullivan, Trump/Robertson to take the title.

    Crucible eve. How exciting

No studio buildup on the opening morning is kind of crap. Anyway, to the couch!

Poor that 10am first morning is only on the red button. But it is Prince Phillip's funeral today and bbc1 is occupied, so they have that excuse. Today.

3 shots in and the cue ball has to be changed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

Joyce had a good chance there, he needed to make it count. Ronnie is slow to get moving now but could run away in no time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,472 ✭✭✭Arthur Daley

There must bs a good 30 second delay from the bbc to the eurosport app. But looking forward to seeing eurosports coverage of the WC for the first time.

If joyce gets 5 decent chances every frame like he did there, he maybe might win a couple.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Joyce took that chance anyway, following a big slice of fortune. On the board so might settle him down. Ronnie not exactly looking primed so far.

2 apiece with Gould-Bingtao.... Will have to get 'the app' :pac:

Now all's I need is for this rubbish restrictions to ease, so someone more 'knowledgeable' can call, and set it up for me :p

Is this the 'Main Thread' for WC? Don't see another one anyway.... Ronnie a bit very unlucky there with the cannon,

Ronnie barely on his c game here I'd say but getting it done. So many chances for joyce but already missed a straight blue off spot as well as 4 blacks off spot i can remember. Absorbing enough match in its way tbf.

Nip and tuck over on the other table... 4 apiece, but can't watch the last frame of session, cos don't have app.... Wots even more annoying is BBC2 are showing 'delayed coverage' FFS

Or maybe that session is over for now - I dunno; but Ronnie's match had nine frames already... #confused :pac:

Yan-Gould 4-4. Back in the morning to finish. Gould had yan in trouble in the last but big fluke helped Yan to win it. Tight looking contest there.

Maguire match on table one.... Wonder is that the one that's getting the main TV coverage? Wouldn't mind if it was - be more competitive than Robbo's match I'd say....

Another minute's silence at 3 according to Hazel..... Gordon Bennett!! Hope the players aren't made stop playing at that time

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭waynescales1

Woeful from Maguire to snooker himself behind the pink, but it’s not gonna matter. I think he can afford to make as many mistakes as he likes cos Jones is really struggling.

Again with the delayed coverage on BBC2.... Tis annoying this... It aint 1987 no more.... Most every snooker fan (cos most peeps have interweb obvs :P) have internet nowadays, and can check scores; but not everyone got 'apps' or 'players' :(

Jesus wenbo...all the hard grafting in that frame and then he goes and does that!

Maguire cruising and then loses 5 frames in a row. Jones looks a different player since the interval. That’s the long format matches for you, loads of time for multiple changes of momentum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Not watched a lot of it but highest break between maguire and jones is 51 after 9 frames. You'd expect a bit more from maguire at least.

First century from Ronnie... tis about time he copped on.

Took him a while to warm up - in every sense - but now looks like 10-4 and out the door by 9.

On another day ronnie could have been quite vulnerable. Joyce just never up to the task. And last 2 frames from ronnie were sublime, a genuine flash of his A game.

This lad Joyce is a far better player than what he’s showed today.

82% pot success, obviously way better than that, but 15 years a pro and only making his crucible debut, i think that tells a story really.

Sheriff Anthony Hamilton in the house, doing comms on eurosport. Not heard him before, sounds decent what i've heard so far.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,187 ✭✭✭waynescales1

Gilbert 7-1 up, still playing on needing 3 snookers at 10:30pm. Call it a night Dave.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,063 ✭✭✭Genghis

Decent march this morning on the red button between Yan Bingtao and Martin Gould. Both playing well but B2B centuries before the mid session interval has Yan leading 7-5 at a dangerous time. Could be a good watch after they return, albeit I will be away now from the TV for a couple of hours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Yan seems to have his measure there now. Gould was in first in both of those last 2 frames with good chances, missed them both and set them up for Yan. Love to see gould fight back but cant be missing the sort of chances he's had this morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Another chance missed by gould, but that was pretty ruthless from Yan, well in control now. Recent form since masters not been great but Yan looking solid here it has to be said.

    Gould lives on!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Gould had another good chance there but terrible positional shot on the red. Unlucky to go in off all the same. It was a good match, yan has a very tough road ahead of him but definitely not to be taken lightly.

Higgins and Tian is dour stuff, could take a while to finish.

    ^^^

It is at that alright.... Good chance for Tian here to go 2-1 up, and I hope he does

Nice cueing on the last black... :D Follows through and pots the white..

Bit of psychology maybe? "I've already got my century, and am relaxed/don't care."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Not looking like they'll get 9 frames played today. Higgins not settled at all, be interesting to see if tian can establish a clear lead.

Not sure but remember when Alex used to do it quite regularly, though usually by sending the white round a few angles. Something about clearing the whole table i guess.

Higgins had two very tough reds to either middle, and missed them both; but there was value in going for them.... He left nothing for Tian, who then misses and leaves Higgins in...

He got lucky with John going in-off on blue off the pack. Tian should really capitalize here now, as chances may be less frequent come the next session.. Looking good though now..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Interval comes at a good time for higgins. That may well be the worst mini session of snooker he's played all season. Tian have to be thinking of an overnight lead.

How he went from unplayable in the itv tournament a month ago to this. Goes to show how the mind/form can blow hot and cold in this game.
