Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I went for my walk earlier, the lovely crisp autumn air, the beautiful colours all about. Back home to cosy house and baking.

Ready to turn the light off and abdicate the day.. winter bites hard on a dark windy day... a simple, old life. Turf fire glowing with its unique rose, rain and hail on the window.. sky with that peculiar dark glow.

There has been war among the cats here and I am fingers crossed it is resolved; the one who was attacked is curled asleep on my pillow. Remembering childhood bed toys? This one purrs!
    Oh and snores!

Bed scattered with bright yarns and half made silver and red bells..Emerald green for a secret project.. Remembering market trading when folk asked what the stall was for... That it fed needy ones; that I cannot do that active work, " But I can knit!" As long as I can do this, it is fair and good.

    Circles of life.

    Night all!

My replacement belts for my 8 track player arrived this morning. Now relaxing with a beer and the soothing sounds of Barry White.

Got sent a video clip of a three year old 'reading' "we're going on a bear hunt". Word perfect too. What a memory that child has!

Any chance that the child could've actually been reading? :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,633 ✭✭✭✭Widdershins

It's possible. Some people had a precocious reading ability before the age of 4. It's known as hyperlexia (I think). I was reading well, at age 4. I guess the child in question was just having a bit of a giggle imitating mum/dad :)

TH I achieved a good bit today and dealt with one scary job.

Much as our grandchildren get their looks from Mrs S and their brains from me, I can categorically state she was not deciphering any words or letters.

The memory gene probably comes from the other side of her family.

And marigolds to bring in to cheer the dwelling. So bright they are...

Had a nose around a vintage shop on my travels a few weeks back (They're charity shops with delusions of grandeur but this one really is a little gem). I forgot I'd bought a tiny antique tin, original purpose unknown, red with a gold leaf dahlias flower on the lid. Found it today (of all places behind the cat litter tray :/ ). So much more satisfying to look at, hold, and use old things that a bit of thought went into the design of.

Back in the day there was only Terry's chocolate orange at Christmas time, now I see loads of orange bars. Long may it continue

Listening to my cat, who has not had an easy week, snoring quietly on the bed beside me.. Blissful sound,. as the sky darkens and evening settles its warm blanket gently over the land.

My double-pregnant best friend has reached halfway through her 3rd trimester. Where are my pompoms? :) Failing that where's my crochet hook...I'm gonna make some tiny wool things, in duplicate ♡♡
She just nearly killed me laughing by telling me she's been diagnosed with a condition called Lightning Crotch!
*Its sore at times but she's safe and feeling fine today .

Listening to Mrs S reading The Chronicles of Narnia to two grandchildren.

It should be essential reading for all. I was given a copy of The Magician's Nephew when I was 7. I was hooked there and then. I bought the set a few years ago.

Very very happy that when I went out with the shovel to remove the large dead rat I had found by the gate, IT HAD GONE!
My cats always ensure I see their prowess then clear it away?

    Bless!

You do know they probably have left the rat at the back door so you think they caught it

I KNOW they caught it! When I came here, they caught one every day there; an ancient rat run,, \One was\ cat sized. Only one door also.... Maybe the postman removed it..My oldest cat spends hours by the run waiting and hoping...

VERY very happy the invasion of large cattle AT MY DOOR has gone.! Ii is that time of year when some farmers make the most of every last blade of grass before they go in for the winter... Finding my drive, path and garden full of them was not to my liking... Eaten my few vegetables, grass and plants... Had this with sheep in various rentals. First time for cattle... Made a call or two.... Not checking my garden any more today...Upset.

A hour spent blowing leaves. I don't know why but it's one of the garden jobs I really enjoy. And the resulting tidy lawns and paths is a bonus.

    My grandchildren.

Four year old boy today reminded me that, in a book I read to him a couple of weeks ago, some whales ate "bioluminescent phytoplankton".

I've said it before and I'll say it again....it's in the genes. :)

Happened me yesterday, 10 animals in the field, only one on the lawn.
And I had rang and messaged the farmer the evening before saying they were in !

Used to be fascinated by sea creatures as a child. Tardigrades (sea bears/moss piglets) and mantis shrimps are awesome at any age Not to mention sea snot! :)

A TH and a TA. Just had a fella in installing something. He looked so much like Tormund from game of thrones but he also had the ice blue eyes of a white walker. That's what made me TH. My TA is that he explained loads of stuff to me and I was so busy restraining myself from saying it to him that I didn't really retain much of what he said. Ah well, I'm sure I'll figure it out...maybe.
