Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone know what the price is likely to be? I'm expecting around the 400 euro mark...

The 2008 100 Euro was around the 400 mark, but the 2016 was 730 Euro, same mintage and I'd imagine the same specs. We can only wait and see, I'll post any details I get before the release.

Which one was that, don't remember any single gold costing that much
The proclamation 100 euro gold was 375

Was never any mention of a silver coin or double set.

Gonna have to take out a second mortgage to buy it.

Has anyone else received the email newsletter?
If it wasn't for checking the site again today I would have missed the coins are on sale Thursday

Didn't get it. You'd think they didn't want people to but their products at all, the way the CB carry on...

Just got an email from them...can you not ring in order anymore or do you now need to buy on line?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,673 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Was told online only last time.

  • Moderators Posts: 6,871 ✭✭✭Spocker

    Yep, online only

Apart from the complete lack of interest from the central bank on wanting to sell coins, what is shocking is selling a coin for €900 and only sticking up one picture. They don’t even bother to describe how you’ll receive the coins, presentation box etc. I feel they are a complete joke.

At 1/2 ounce the spot price today is €564 so not a bad margin for the central bank on these coins.

Is anyone going to pick one up, do you think there’ll be must interest or a chance of them selling out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,673 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

I'm in 2 minds (would be two of us buying)
But the price is a turnoff

  • Moderators Posts: 6,871 ✭✭✭Spocker

Definitely leaning toward a no on this one, too much of a gouge for me

I’d love to know the sense behind constantly increasing the cost and reducing the mintage limits. The reason they weren’t selling is because they kept increasing the prices, that and some of the last few designs were horrible.

Anyone decide to buy the new gold coin?

I purchased one and a friend has told me that this was priced too high (that the gold is only worth half of the price of the coin). I am wondering was I stupid now to purchase as I'm not a coin collector and just thought it might be a good investment.

I know that I can return the coin when I get it within 14 days of receipt for a refund as it was bought on the web page, but just curious for views thanks.

Personally I think it's a bad investment from a financial point. But collectors of Irish coins will still want it for their collection. I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing them on ebay for less than the original price, it's happened with a lot of their other overpriced coins.

I cancelled, easily done. Reflected on cost and decided no. Nice to have option to cancel and get refund.

Got the coin, thought nice case - nope, plastic. Would thought for the price it would been something a bit nicer like the Explorers set

LOL is it sold out already

Dracula coin now back in stock

I would have bought every single coin, with the exception of the double explorer, until the Holland Submarine one, when the poor quality of the coin, and the subsequent poor designs really put me off.
I have bought a few since, but you would have to wonder what the Central Bank are about.

Is there any information on their overall plans for the year? Could this be it, or is there likely to be a few silver ones or even a double set?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 LUCIFER1001

I am not that impressed on the 2019 An Chead Dail coin
    Poor design
    Cheap plastic box
    Rip off price
    Poor service from Collector Coin

According to their newsletter yesterday they are planning to issue the following:

Proof Set 2019 with the €2 circulating Dáil commemorative coin - Quarter 2 2019
Annual Mint set 2019 with regular €2 and Dail €2 coins - Quarter 2 2019

Two €15 Silver Proof coins - 100 years of transatlantic flight (June 2019) and second Modern Musicians coin (Aug 2019) - Phil Lynott - marking 70th anniversary of his birth.

Wonder what the mintage of the 2019 will be and of course price.
Only second commemorative €2 issued by Ireland.
With the exception of the 2006 and 2015 proof sets the rest are still available from CC.
Hope they keep the mintage low.

  • Moderators Posts: 6,871 ✭✭✭Spocker

Heres the link to the newsletter with all the mintage details, except release date and price: https://www.collectorcoins.ie/media/wysiwyg/PDF/Collector%20Coin%20Newsletter%20Issue%202.pdf

    Tks for that.
The proof set might sell out quickly with a limit of 1000
