Seeing Frances Fitzgerald getting in is 10000% worse then Walsh. I will say that

Avril Doyle wing of FG got Fitzgerald in

Insufferable grand dame of the party

Fine Gael could run a donkey it would still get votes.
They did with Gay Mitchell and he didn't! Candidates just need to be perceived to be better than what they are running against.

Could he not have run in the Limerick constituency?

Can't achieve much via the council there. Unless you meant the South constituency. He would be foregoing his NW base entirely. Would not work. I don't think he is all about the Traveller entitlement issue as the press like to suggest. Anyway, I think his stance on that issue was merely indicative of a novel willingness to call a spade a spade, "basically camping on someone else's land". That attitude is required across a whole range of issues.

I would have like for him to win. But the sour grapes thought comes to mind that he would be lost in Brussels and do nothing for Ireland. The presidential thing was much the same. He needs to look at the Dáil and call out some BS going on there.

Donegal would be extremely competitive. He'd struggle there as well. Voters may have got fed up with him by then as well. A similar FPV would probably put him in for a seat based on the last election but you'd expect SF to get it right next time and not run three. He'd probably be after the Pringle seat.

He would have called it a tool with a sharp-edged, typically rectangular, metal blade and a long handle if his handlers had told him that was the best way to make a splash in the presidential race...

He's very unlikely to win a dail seat based off last weeks performance unless he aligns to a party and i can't see any of the main ones taking him on.

The only way he has a chance is via much larger elections like the Euro's or the Presidency when it boils down to Dail constituencies he doesnt have broad enough appeal to be an independent

This next count in MNW is the big one Casey likely to get a lot of transfers here and he needs a hell of a lot. It's Eames after that and you wouldn't expect Walsh to get many of those because Eames is against same sex marriage.

He might take a seat in Donegal.

Actually it will probably be both Healy-Eames & Hannigan at the same time. She'll get some from both. Again aim is just to stay ahead. If Rabbitte transfer tallies to Smith are correct it will be lights out for Casey.

Casey has been getting less transfers than Walsh and McHugh. So has Carthy by the way.

Walsh has been keeping her own versus McHugh. Difficult to see past Carthy and Walsh for the last two seats. McHugh might catch Casey but she won't catch Carthy. She also has to watch Smith coming up behind.

The real race is the race for fifth between Casey, Smith and McHugh. Unfortunately, there is no prize.

Doubtful, he's likely to get some transfer off PBP and LAB but not off any of the others tbh, its very likely that once Anne Rabbitte is eliminated Smith could leapfrog him and I still think the Green candidate could get ahead of him as he's simply not transfer friendly

Casey got 800 more votes than Walsh in Count 7 ( O'Dowd elimination) but still over 12000 behind.

In Count 7, Casey got a good deal more transfers than Walsh. But I think in all the others, she got more. So she’ll probably be stay ahead.

Well 650 more, barely moves the needle at all. Healy-Eames got the biggest chunk.

If people are voting for Fidelma Healy-Eames we need to scrap democracy, we're too stupid to handle it.

Casey should have stuck to the traveller issue ... at least most immigrants do a days work and contribute to society and don’t go round robbing anything not bolted down

Said it before, saying it again: should have gone for environmentalism if he wanted votes.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

The D4 media had him all but written off before the election, he slipped up criticizing the EE but despite it all he will end up with a decent enough vote.

Didn't do McHugh any good when it's all said and done, this Green Wave that was being talked up will end up as a Green puddle.

Worked well for them in councils but predominantly in urban areas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

    Hannigan elimination

    COUNT 9
    Carthy + 1377 = 82,921
    Casey + 857 = 61,616
    Flanagan + 1560 = 91,747
    McHugh + 3187 = 58,642
    Walsh + 1851 = 74,116

Healy Eames elimination next and that will probably be it for the night.

The next GE which might be in the next few months will be the real test, FG know they will get it in the neck on the doors in rural areas if they put up the price of heating fuel.

Things could turn very sour for the Greens when they are put under pressure to admit that voters will have to pay more to turn Green.

It will still be FG or FF + in government anyway. The Greens could get as high as six and Labour might creep up to, dare I say, double figures. Either of the big parties will agree to some of what the Greens want to do but not necessarily to all of it.

McHugh could have picked up a seat like the greens in the other EU constituencies if she hadn't gone for the cheap ad homiem personal attacks instead debating actual policy.

Anyone would think nobody wanted him. :)

I'd like to see him contest the next local elections. That'd make it a full suite of Irish electoral failures. A Royal Flush.

    Forgot about the Seanad.

But in his 2 other elections he got over 400,000 votes combined.

Not that bad for a failure?

    True.

I think a councillor in the next local elections might be his level.

Green party deputy leader was on Prime Time tonight and was appalling. Disgusting arrogance and sneering at basic questions. They seem to relish taxing normal people. We aren't all D4 millionaires like her, Ryan and Cuffe.

Put them in the spotlight and if the media stop fawning over them and them to account they will crumble, and people will be sick of them quickly.

Yes talking down to Healy Rae - Did you not hear our leader speak, she said, as if Ryan is the second coming of Christ

Same as Saosise McHugh, they can't debate policy and just resort to ad hominem.
Some people have short memories of what happened last time they were in power. Lies, spin, cronie capitalism and destruction of the Irish economy for a generation.
