Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I don't recall any night time music video shows on the 80s in Irish TV. Could it have been on one of the UK channels?

I remember a show called No Disco in the 90s. Presented by Donal Dineen, it featured 'alt' acts. That was late night.

Yes, almost every Irish character actor of the time was in it at some point. His character Slipper reminded me of this eccentric oul lad who lived near us.

"Baa, Baa Black sheep" not an agricultural show dealing with racial injustice on the farm, but a War show set in WW2. I remember the CGI was a bit meh even for the era, but fun to watch.

If I recall correctly the main star of that series was Robert Conrad who had made his name in the 60s in the Wild Wild West.

On a similar note, Tim Severin's The Brendan Voyage... and its wonderful associated soundtrack by Shaun Davey.

Anyone remember the Black Sheep Squadron?

I think it was on in the early days of Sky and we used to watch it after school.

That's BaaBaa Black Sheep, as mentioned above.
It was retitled to sound more on the nose.

It’s actually a true story (well based on) Pappy Boyington was real. I read the book a few years back.

Spotted a listing online from RTE Guide X Mass 1987 for a show called The Hotline Video Show, presented by Barry Lang. Might that be it?

no it had nothing to do with Barry Lang,

it was a programme that had no presenter just vox pops from members of the public between the videos

There use to be a questionnaire show. Can't remember the name or if it was on ITV or BBC but at the end, they'd always give the contestants a copy of the paper from the year they were born.

Perhaps due to this thread I'm after downloading street hawk,.man, it's class..the music when he was on the bike was pure cool too..

    Gillette World Sports Special
    Relic Hunter
    Cleopatra 2525
The Adventures of Sinbad (the 90s one, not the crappy new one)
Jake and the Fatman - obviously a lot of people remember this, but why isn't it ever on tv anymore? One episode called "It Never Entered My Mind" had the first appearance of a certain Dr. Mark Sloan, a medical doctor who solves crimes...

Mattie, Pat Shortts followup to Killinaskully. I think Pat himself would rather forget that one. Even the crowd who lapped up Killanaskully didn't take to it. It was then retconned as Sgt Mattie and managed to be even worse.

I recorded this on TG4 which are showing it at the moment- i thought i'd be in for a treat having watched it as a kid but totally forgot what the acting/dialogue was like.

OMG, painful is not the word- a real "Oirish" programme- embarrassing is not the word- needless to say, it's well deleted from my playlist.

Mr T animated series. Always at the end there would be a live action bit where he'd have a "message" for kids. The only one I can remember was "don't be a fool, go to school!"

Does anyone remember this old RTE music show, TX? I can't anything online about it, other than there was an RTE show in the late 90's with the same title.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,965 ✭✭✭NewbridgeIR

My neighbour (born mid 60s) used to watch TX
It pre-dated Anything Goes which started in September 1980 and also had Dave Heffernan doing a rock show.

Spellbinder - parallel universe accessed by a schoolkid through the Australian bush.

Under the Mountain - creepy New Zealand programme about twins trying to stop shape-shifting monsters from conquering the Earth. Probably too scary for today's children's television.

    Moondial

Children of the Stones - really unsettling

Earthfasts - time travelling and magic in the Yorkshire Dales

    Eerie, Indiana
