Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If he did ko him with a kick I'd imagine he'd make more money just from TV appearances than he's getting for show money. Hed be able to live off it for years where if he just goes in and gets shown up for a few rounds in a year or so he'll just be back to where he is now really.

Was there a massive difference in size? There normal fighting weight is obviously massively different was that pretty apparent?

Yeah mate, and Floyd wasn't even trying. He was throwing stupid shots and dropping his hands down then dropped him three times and that's all she wrote.

    Embarrassing stuff for Floyd.

What the hell is he doing.

Was expecting it to be one sided but not quite that bad. $9m for 2 minutes work not too shabby!

You have to look at it from a business perspective, he got a minimum of 9m for that **** show.

The whole fight just looked weird. First knockdown looked like Floyd tripped him, third knockdown, Tenshin looked odd in the way he was scrambling to get back up.

Floyd looked much bigger all right

Making money! Don't think he cares much for his legacy as a boxer probably feels that's locked in. That much money for exhibition fight f it why not take it and go buy something nice!

Could he not have taken an easy boxing match in Vegas and got 100 million.

Perhaps wants to take no chance of a loss at this stage however remote the chances.

Only 4 kg difference for weight apparently. Floyd literally looks like he rolled off the couch.

9m is just show money, he’ll clear we’ll over 50m for that. Not bad for something he probably did no camp for.

    That was just weird

The way your man reacted to the first knock-down (trip?) looked theatrical as hell. He flailed around and rolled over onto his belly ... it just did not look natural.

Not going to over-analyse it ... it was a weird freakshow fight in Japan with odd circumstances in the build-up. You never know what's going on in Japan with gambling fixes, shoots, 'exhibitions' etc. I don't know what I was supposed to be looking at.

First one looked weird but I think it just caught him off guard. Floyd only started throwing seriously when he got tagged by a left hook. After that he just walked forward without any respect for his power.

I can't imagine Rizin would have a fix in that literally made one of their star attractions look like a little child getting slapped by a flabby 41 year old.

Multiple parties can fix a fight, it doesn't have to be the organization. Can be a gambling syndicate or other third party. One or both fighters can be in on it.

All sorts of weird stuff happens in Japan, you hear the old Pride stories about passports being confiscated.

Floyd looked mortified during the initial fight press conference, pulled out when he got back on American soil, then it's back on. Is it a fight or an exhibition? Were both guys treating it as a fight? I have no idea. Just too much weirdness surrounding this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,904 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Full fight here, skip the first 15 minutes of bollox acting. Embarrassing to watch. Looked like Floyd was happy acting the eejit until Tenshin actually connected with him in the first exchange and Floyd decided to just wreck him. The falling, crying, dancing, awful shyte.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Mayweather caught him a few times but really think the guy was selling the punches as every time he got knocked down it was like a funeral but then he found his balance instantly once the ref asked him to continue.
These cards always come across weird and not just the theatrics. Even Horiguchi winning the guillotine was strange. It was like Caldwell put his head right into it, maybe he was tired after the opening 2 rounds but it was only a 3 round title fight.
Gabi Garcia would legit be the most intimidating woman on the planet if she could strike, even without the supplements she's physically quite imposing and I can see why the Japanese like her. How Mackenzie Dern survived grappling her several times is a mystery.
The Teepee choke was something else, still can't wrap my head around it :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,810 ✭✭✭✭jimmii

Was really expecting him to put in a much better showing than that. Granted he may have never been hit like that before but it was like he had never taken a hit before at all bizarre.

John Kavanagh is coaching 13 fighters for the Dublin Bellator show in February. They are all in camp at the same time. 4 weeks in Ireland, 2 in Iceland then back home a week before the show. He is a very hardworking man I will give him that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,960 ✭✭✭Autecher

Bellator signed an 0-12 fighter to a contract to fight at Bellator 216 but the fight was pulled by the commission. Things like this is why people that say that Bellator will surpass the UFC are very wrong.

Full lineup for that Bellator card revealed.

Smullen against a 3-3 bloke, McCourt’s opponent is 2-6, Redser’s opponent 15-9, Crosbie vs 3-2, Kiely vs 3-4, Moore vs 8-4. The main event Gallagher vs 6-3.

    Laugahable matchmaking.

The records of the Irish lads aren't too different mostly, Redmond is 14-7 fighting a 15-9 opponent for example. That being said they have likely been given favourable fights anyway since Bellator invested heavily in Irish fighters last year so they were always going to do this, they don't want them all to lose on the first show with so many Irish fighters on it. Just look at my post about the 0-12 fighter from earlier to see how much Bellator care about records.

    Smullen (3-1) against a 3-3 bloke, McCourt’s (1-1) opponent is 2-6, Redser’s (14-7 and is Team Ryano, not SBG) opponent 15-9, Crosbie (5-0) vs 3-2, Kiely (2-1) vs 3-4, Moore (8-2) vs 8-4. The main event Gallagher (7-1) vs 6-3.

A bit more perspective on it with the Irish fighters records imputed. Crosbie and Gallagher are the only ones lopsided in my opinion and they are not that far off.

What do you want? Them all against 4-0, 6-1, 7-0, 10-1 fighters?? No SBG fighter listed there has more than 8 (Gallagher has 8, next is Crosbie with 5) pro fights (I'm not counting Moore, he fights out of FAI and not SBG but he has been training with SBG lately.

Whoops, had to delete my earlier post as I got Brian and Karl Moore mixed up, but the records aren't that mismatched really in most cases.

    Even more perspective:

    - Smullen's opponent has had 1 fight in BAMMA (a first round TKO loss) and his best win is at Cage Legacy level. Smullen was recently on TUF and fought in the UFC.

    - Leah McCourt's opponent has 1 win since 2011 and has lost her lost 5, all by sub or finish.

    - Redser's opponent has, in fairness, fought and won in Bellator but has spent the majority of his career fighting in the world renowned Full Contact Contender and Budo Fight Championships also losing 2 of his 3 fights in Brave, while Redser himself has fought at UFC level and won fights in KSW, Bellator and BAMMA.

    - Karl Moore's opponent has lost his last 3, 2 of which he was KO'd in and 1 in which he was submitted.

    - Kiely's opponent is a 38 year old on a 4 fight losing streak who has fought in promotions of such a poor level that it's not even worth discussing. It's an utter joke of a matchup and shouldn't have been sanctioned.

No one is expecting them to be matched up against killers, but these are clearly extremely favourable, some bordering on ridiculous, matchups for the home fighters. No doubt they'll all win and we'll be hearing rubbish about how it was another special night for Irish MMA comparing it to McGregor vs Brandao.

I have my ticket and will be there cheering the lads on anyway, but this card makes most boxing undercards look competitive.

Slightly off topic but does anyone know who is regulating this? Who are the commission for Irish mma events?

It's favorable match making alright, as you get in many promotions for the hometown fighters, but I wouldn't call any of them ridiculous. Kiely has no MMA experience outside of his BAMMA fights.

Absolutely the intention is that the majority of Irish lads will win and it will set Bellator up for a return visit and bigger crowds.

Safe MMA Ireland sanction all fights here as far as I am aware. Dr Dan Healy is the man behind all the brain scans, which are the major factor for allowing a fighter to compete here.

Paul is the one facing a 15-9 opponent and he said Redmond was at Ryano. So it's Paul that Whelo was talking about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,649 ✭✭✭Whelo79

Paul is the one that was quoted but John is also on the card and made a big deal about his move from Ryano to SBG last year.

I've seen Moore training at SBG a lot but haven't seen anything specific mentioned about it so I don't know if it's a permanent or temporary move from FAI. I suppose we'll know soon enough when it comes to any interviews or who is in his corner.

The Dublin Bellator show must be selling extremely well.

I went on to Ticketmaster earlier to check and they only had cageside seats and singles in the normal seats left.

Will they open up the whole arena for this with that in mind?
