Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lads just curious as to the expectations around young Jimmy Hyland?

He is some talent based on what I saw of him in the under 20s championship last year.Unfortunately I saw him up and close in the final.

Big things expected of Jimmy but he does have his head screwed on. Strikes me as the type who will cope with it. Minding him and keeping him injury free will be the key.

Very little of the king's ransom they paid for Pairc Ui Chaoimh was spent on the pitch by the looks of things!

Kildare lead by 2 at half time after struggling for long periods. Cork started the better but wasted a lot of chances. A Feely penalty after Jimmy Hyland was fouled kept our noses in front. We had a purple patch midway through the half after Adam Tyrrell kicked a free with Jimmy converting an attacking mark and McCormack kicking a nice point. A hard watch with Cork playing fairly negatively and Kildare failing to find any attacking rhythm for most of the half. I think we will see Neil Flynn before long.

    Kildare down to 14.

Allianz NFL Div 2 Rd 2:

    Cork 0-10 Kildare 1-10

    Feely (1-1, 1 pen), Flynn (0-3, 1 ‘45), McCormack (0-2), Tyrrell (0-2, 2 fs), Dowling (0-1), Hyland (0-1, 1 f).

Kildare see it out. 3 points out of 4 so far without ever really clicking. Nice to see Kildare getting something out of these types of contests.

Playing for Maynooth Wednesday (or tuesday) so probably smart choice.

    Is he on bench?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,050 ✭✭✭✭The Talking Bread

So. How bad were Kildare for anyone that was up at the match. Was expecting a low scoring game up there, even in or around single digits on the points front for us but 6 points is shocking.
It's impossible to make any sense of a game listening to the awful commentary on KFM so if anyone was up here feedback would be great

    1 score from play
No score in 25 minutes at one stage.

You can't even blame Fermanagh's 15 behind the ball "approach" for that. That is dirt.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

It was very similar to the Carlow debacle last year. We were completely unable to break down a team who set up in the most negative way possible. To be fair to Carlow at least they kept one man forward! It was a dire football match to watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,435 ✭✭✭ixus

Ugh Fermanagh. Could never pay to watch them unless i had to for tactics analysis.

    Fermanaghs league and champ form
    2019
    Kildare 8 - 6
    Tipp 2-5 a piece
    Cork 1-5 to 8 Ferm

    Champ 2018
Beat Armagh 12 to 7 having lost to them in Div3 final and drawn in league.
    Beat Monaghan.

Hammered by Donegal and KILDARE. Missing 5 or 6 from that day.

2018 League lost by 2 to Westmeath and 2 to Armagh in Final.

They are a horrible team to play against but you have to respect their record. Tough to score against and beat unless you are on top form.

Missing a third of a team from last year reflected.

No doubt it was horrendous and there are learnings but i would pay more attention to performance against Donegal, Tipp, Clare and Meath than this.

Good to see Peter Kelly back. Would probably swap him with David hyland though - always wondered why hyland never got a run further out the field as he covers a lot of ground and carries the ball well

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Some improvement today but get the impression we will need to go up a good few levels to get a result next Sunday. Full forward line are all very dangerous when they get the supply and linked well today. Our half forward line need to improve and we badly miss Paul Cribbin's directness and physicality here. Tommy Moolick put in a good shift around the middle and got the better of the midfield argument along with Feely. The age old achilles heel of this team when a team runs at them evident again although Clare lacked the composure to capitalise when they got through. Donnellan had his best game in a while.

Result today should keep us out of the relegation mire but we'll probably need to in in both Navan and Ballyshannon to go up which would be a tough ask even if we were at full tilt.

Promotion hopes dead in the water after injury time penalty gives Meath 1-9 to 1-8 win. 1 point in 2nd half is scandalous stuff, better off so O Neill can be gone get new manager to better utilise the quality forwards we have

If you only score 1 point in a half, I don’t think you have ‘quality forwards’

Yeah, O'Neill has to go. He isn't a long term solution so what is the point making him a short term one. He earned his plaudits for the qualifier run but apart from that, he hasn't shown himself to be up for the job.

Where was plan B though? I was only listening to it, same rigmarole as the first half but playing into a strong wind. Meath got more than a point in the first half, and they playing into the wind.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Poor second half display. Ben McCormack going off in the first half was a big loss. He was causing problems for Meath. The team fell apart when Eoin Doyle went off. We lost our shape completely and lacked quality replacements. Paul Cribbin looked half fit while a few other lads were running on empty by the end. To be fair to Meath I think they deserved it on balance. They created plenty of chances throughout and were very wasteful until the last quarter.

All in all a performance over 70 minutes that sums up our season so far. Kevin Flynn and Chris Healy will inject a bit of pace when they return and obviously a fully fit Paul Cribbin will be a big addition but there's still a brittleness about this group that haunts them.

Mark Hyland in for Mark Dempsey and Chris Healy in for Ben McCormack.

Gas to think we are still in with a shout of going up if we win this game. We've struggled and spluttered our way though the league. If ever there was a day to hit form, it is tomorrow.

Daniel Flynn back in the country.

Ha, there was a whassap trend going around "spot Diarmuid Connolly" all last year! Is this going to be our own version!

But seriously, is there any hope he may make a return for Championship?

    Beaten by a point.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,050 ✭✭✭✭The Talking Bread

Good contest, Naas will rue many a chance but it is not easy making such a step up to playing in Croke Park so mistakes/missed chances are par for the course, St Michaels missed a few themselves. 4 points down towards the end and could easily have levelled on numerous occasions in last few minutes.

Better team, although very marginally, won.

It would be no surprise to see at least two changes to that. Quietest build-up to a championship game I can recall since the pre-Micko era. Can see there being a very small Kildare attendance.

    That’s always positive.
I’m assuming that they took the foot off the pedal in the second half and paid the price (we only have 2 gears, flat out and full stop)

The second half performances have being a worry all season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭Scoundrel

That performance was an absolute disgrace playing a one man full forward line against Wicklow probably the worst Wicklow team in 30 years Cian O Neill is absolutely clueless and needs to resign immediately or this season is another write off any other team in Leinster would have beat us on Saturday. Why are our defenders so weak? Why can't we defend against players running straight at us? The Wicklow no.8 destroyed us in the 2nd half by simply running directly at our defence why is Paddy Brophy being picked he was horrible again on saturday was horrendous over the league
