    Episode 2 is a shambles.

Not very funny. Did they lose a few writers or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,875 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

I didn't enjoy episode 2 at all and found it very weak.

Interesting; the comments in the Motor forum is the exact opposite raising it as one of the best episodes to date.

*edit* Ok finished the show and I'm not sure how you could find it in shambles? It continues in true Top Gear style with suitable car porn (*drool*) and the three stooges being stooges.

May's last act before getting into the car gave me a giggle

Just watched it and I regret the wasted time, apart from the Aston that was utter pish

It's written by Clarkson, may and hammond. In interviews they go on about obsessing about every word used on the show.

The Jordan thing was too long but overall I thought it was a decent episode.

Terrible episode. They need to go back to what they're good at, and acting certainly isn't it.

I thought it was a good episode. I don't know what they could go back to, this is what they've always done. I think any talk of them doing anything to appease the masses should be abandoned, they don't need to please any of the nay sayers anymore. We'll just have to take it as it comes.

No faulting the cars, they were great but all the jokes fell flat for me. It felt very scripted (more so than Top Gear used to be) and the delivery of the punch lines was flat.

Felt like there was a lot of filler in the episode.

I liked a lot of it but the big piece was rubbish.

Aston bit was decent, bonkers machine. The rest was the sort of thing they do in their sleep.

Just yawned my way through that, whoever thought that whole Jordanian skit was a good idea? badly written terribly executed ......they were at their best in TG when the comedy came naturally, they are not and never will be comedy actors

But it seems kind of likely that the comedy never came naturally and it was always scripted. An institution like the BBC isn't going to just show up and improvise a show. They want to know how every second is going to play out. I doubt they'd even let the filming start until there's some sort of story board saying what they'll all be doing for the day. Filming is just too expensive to wing it and hope for the best.

The 3 of them have lost their charm and the jokes have become tired. It was like this before they left bbc and hasnt improved at all on amazon.

Well not as scripted then, the part where Clarkson got stuck in the window for example was badly set up and excruciatingly unfunny

So 3 episodes in and the novelty is well worn off for me anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,875 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

    Awful episode again.

It looks like most of the £150m to make the show went into the bank accounts of the trio..It certainly doesn't look like it went into the last two episodes.

I think we're currently seeing the advantage that someone saying "No, that's a bad idea.." would be in the room.

It's a matter of opinion. I thought it was funny, not laugh out loud funny, but funny. Their show has always been taking the piss out of themselves. Clarkson has been taking the brunt of it lately with his expanding waistline.

It is what it's always been. It may be marmite, but I like it.

    Ep 3, better.

Granted it played up the Hammond is 'secretly' an American, but a lot of the back and forth on the radios seemed more natural, and very funny

Every time Jeremy leans back in that cantilever chair, I have a vision of another famous guy leaning back in a cantilever chair he designed:

Mies van der Rohe, architect and designer.

Death has this much to be said for it:
You don’t have to get out of bed for it.
    Wherever you happen to be
    They bring it to you—free.

Middling challenge this week, the 3 guys playing up to their characters

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 18,505 CMod ✭✭✭✭The Black Oil

    1.04

    That BMW...

The rest was fairly standard, though I laughed a few times.
It looks like most of the £150m to make the show went into the bank accounts of the trio..It certainly doesn't look like it went into the last two episodes.

Split that over 36 episodes, remove their salaries and there's probably not a huge amount left to play with, per episode. Still probably more than they had at the BBC, mind. They presumably reserve much of the budget for the logistics for the foreign trips and the cinematography. As to the general form, I still think much of this comes from Andy Willman and that he's calling the shots. Any show that's long in the tooth isn't going to drift from its main formula, even when it's prone to be a bit cringeworthy or lazy. Expect more silly UK building challenges.

TGT the most pirated show of the year ever by all accounts now with the first 3 episodes being downloaded 19 million times between them.

Compared to just under 2 million views on Amazon for the opening episode and total of 5 million for the opening 3 episodes.

Anyone else fed up of the drone sequence at the start?? Or is that just a amazon thing??

I took it as a dig at the proposed amazon drone delivery system for urban areas.

Although, I may be looking too much into this

Got around to watching the first few episodes. Continues the trajectory they were on with the last few seasons of TG. A downward one. Boring, predictable set pieces to facilitate boring, predictable caricature presenters.

And, on that bombshell, it's time to say goodbye to Clarkson, Hammond, and May.

    Lol..

They really missed an opportunity with this show. They should have had the 1st episode as the launch of the worldwide service and offered deals to get people to subscribe. Once they had people on board paying a monthly subscription they would probably stick with the service. I've been on the verge of canceling Netflix a couple of times but they do just enough to keep me paying.

I know they're now offering deals but people have made their minds up on the Grand tour, if they don't like it they're not going to buy a subscription.

Excellent episode.the next two episode are on the 30th and 31st. 2 part special

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭longshanks

It's fairly poor so far, the jokes are terrible, the fat yank doing the lap is terrible, Richard Hammond... terrible.
It's hard to see where all the money that was supposedly spent on each episode was actually spent.
Would agree with the poster above who mentioned May going through the archives, that was pretty good. Overall though the show needs to improve.

Beach buggies seem like fun. Episode was OK, fairly innocuous and not their finest. Shipwrecks looked amazing, as did the desert. May and Hammond looked knackered at the bar.

    The poor rhinos.

Part two was more on form as the roads shredded their cars. I bet the Namibian tourist board is pleased.

Funny the contrasting views. I thought the Christmas special was very good. Entertaining, funny and some spectacular shots.

Also the piece May did the previous week on the Le Mans battle between Ford and Ferrari was absolutely fantastic. He genuinely looked proud after it was shown and rightly so.
