Not wildly impressed, but that said the first episode of TG2.1 wasnt much either.

Its basicly more of the same tired shtick from the 3 lads,,i was expecting something -different- but a lot of it was very derivative.

That said, TG2.1 took a while to find its feet, so i will wait for a few more episodes before i make a decision on this

Started off well then began to tail off.......the track thing went on far too long ended up being purely for F1 geeks

Not too sure where that comes from, as your name here, was clearly designed to throw the back of the car out.

I really enjoyed it immensely I have to say, great to see the 3 amigos back in action, I thought the "action car shots" were better than TG...

Why is this thread in the Top Gear forum? It's about The Grand Tour and not Top Gear.

    I think you know why.

A better question is why does Top Gear still have its own forum.

So we can discuss how cr@p it now is?

Should probably rename the forum because the new show will get a lot more views then whatever crappy bunch of people the BBC bring in next.

Caught the new show over the weekend. Lots good and lots bad. Hopefully the move on pretty quickly from the jibes at the BBC and not being able to do this or that. All in all I liked it as much as most of the last few years of their top gear. Overly scripted is again the biggest problem.

It's hilarious how many people think that it's wrong to enjoy both shows. For me personally. I prefer Top Gear, even the new one over this. I prefer my car shows to include presenters, who present a show about cars. Not presenters, who fail miserably at acting, with some cars included. In the whole episode of GT, which was well in excess of an hour, there were only 4 cars talked about. It hardly qualifies as a car show now does it.

The intro was over indulgent, the new "stig" was painful to listen to, the celeb section was atrocious TV. I'd hate to think someone actually signed up for Amazon and this is what they got for their hard earned. The segment about the RAF was by far the worst TV I've seen this year. Three very good presenters, who should stick to what they're good at, and they should leave the acting to the actors.

Oh you're absolutely allowed to enjoy both and if you notice my main give about this show was the scripted rubbish thru out.

That said the top gear team last year were awful and Evans was brutal and I've no idea what le blanc was there for. Painful stiff.

Sorry, that wasn't aimed solely at you, just a general observation of people on social media etc.

I think TG certainly got the car footage spot on during the last season. Standards were definitely still high. I liked the introduction of the guest (or semi) presenters in these segments. The challenges could nearly do with being scrapped, as I think without Jezza and Co. really pulled that off and without it the whole segment looked forced. The studio parts were bad, and very staged, and again I really like Evans as a presenter, but it never worked for him. LeBlanc, despite being the fish out of water in the role, really made held his own and carried the show in parts.

I liked both. At least now Top gear can be a show about cars and for the rest of us that just like Clarkson and Co we can watch them on grand tour. It's all worked out for the best as far as I'm concerned, now we have two car shows.

Just in relation to this point, is there a specific number of cars that makes a show a 'car show'?

To me, it felt like they spent a good chunk of time on the four cars (and what four cars they were too!!).

    Quality over quantity!!

I thought it was a fantastic first show.

I love the names of the track - Isn't Straight. old ladys house etc

It was full of energy and enough laughs to keep me happy.

Overall I thought it was a good show, dragged down by a couple of cringe inducing attempts to be funny (e.g. the "fight" with the audience), so basically just like old Top Gear!

It's like when your old lad or uncle go out and try to dance with young people at a party. It's embarrassing but it's part of what you love about them. I think they need that cringe factor to get in under your skin.

I assume the jokes about the old format will be over now and they can get on with just making the show from now on, which should make for better television.

Didn't think they dragged on much in fairness- and yes, I'd imagine they'll just "move on" now. Series 2 I think will be further away again from the TG model.

Probably not. They still go on about the war for gods sake.

    Episode 2 is a shambles.

Not very funny. Did they lose a few writers or something?

I didn't enjoy episode 2 at all and found it very weak.

Interesting; the comments in the Motor forum is the exact opposite raising it as one of the best episodes to date.

*edit* Ok finished the show and I'm not sure how you could find it in shambles? It continues in true Top Gear style with suitable car porn (*drool*) and the three stooges being stooges.

Just watched it and I regret the wasted time, apart from the Aston that was utter pish

It's written by Clarkson, may and hammond. In interviews they go on about obsessing about every word used on the show.

The Jordan thing was too long but overall I thought it was a decent episode.

Terrible episode. They need to go back to what they're good at, and acting certainly isn't it.

I thought it was a good episode. I don't know what they could go back to, this is what they've always done. I think any talk of them doing anything to appease the masses should be abandoned, they don't need to please any of the nay sayers anymore. We'll just have to take it as it comes.
