Looks like we might have a nice turnout for this later on folks. The tournament will begin with the group stages and after that it’ll be into straight knockout bouts. Keep an eye on your subscribed threads for kickoff this evening!

Battle lines have been drawn. We go live within the next few minutes!

    Quick rundown of how it works. Each group will have three flags in it. You have to rank them in order of preference. For example;

    1. Tokyo
    2. Osaka
    3. Kyoto

I'll then score them accordingly with 3 points, 2 points and 1 point. The top 2 from each group will progress to the knockout rounds. If you like, you can explain why you're voting the way you are and, in the event of any draws that need splitting, these reasons will be used as tiebreakers. Each group match will last 20 minutes. Got that?! Hope so! Stay tuned...

    1. Shiga
    2. Aichi
    3. Saitama

Saitama loses points for going with the Red on White colour scheme like the National Flag. Nice symbology with the other two. The Sunrise and a Wave on the Pacific Ocean for Aichi and Shiga having the circle for the largest lake and the wings of Harmony and Progress. Blue beats out Red.

    1. Saltama love the shape of the individual petals (?) making up the ring. Very pretty

    2. Aichi would prefer a brighter red but I like the emblem

    3. Shiga my least favourite but still a lovely flag.

Had trouble separating 2 and 3. The person on front is driving an Aichi, no its a Shiga.

    Kagoshima
    Yamanashi
    Iwate

I like the three of them!

The Japanese flags have this evil space empire corporate look. This game should be interesting.

    1. Iwate I am a sucker for symmetry

    2. Yamanashi I like the purple and yellow. Loch Garman Abú

    3. Kagoshima nice flag just prefer the others.

    1. Iwate - such a lovely colour and simplicity
    2. Kagoshima - A nice twist in the national flag
    3. Yamanashi - Purple isn't my favourite flag colour

    Group B Standings

    Iwate 16
    Yamanashi 13
    Kagoshima 13

This means we have a tie for the runner up spot. Let's delve into the reasons between Yamanashi and Kagoshima.

So again it's a stalemate so it's best reason and for me it's ari101 as their answer directly refers to the fact they aren't into purple a flag colour.

    1. Fukushima - crisp, nice, unusual use of orange
    2. Miyagi - neat enough, unusual shade of green
    3. Toyama

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,720 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    1. Fukushima - the emblem being off centre is oddly pleasing, and it looks like a whale swimming right at you
    2. Toyama - simple but nice
    3. Miyagi - looks like a bad shamrock drawn on a terrible Guinness in a crap Irish bar in a dump of a foreign beach resort

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,777 ✭✭✭KathleenGrant

    1. Fulushima orange symbolises love and hope.
Not a great fan of orange on a flag but I love that shade.

    2. Miyagi lovely green colour and like the interlacing clover

    2. Toyama seems a bit plain towards the other 2.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,715 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

    1) Fukushima
    2) Miyagi
    3) Toyama

Are these the real colours of the flags? The colours seem, I dunno, kinda extra?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,271 ✭✭✭Barna77

Miyagi - nice shade of green
    Fukushima
Toyama - clever way of spelling the name on the flag.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭ari101

Miyagi - lovely colour and curve :)
Fukushima - the shape and off centre positioning are really eye catching
Toyama - I don't know why but this is less pleasing to the eye, I like green buy the curved shapes are swaying me more to the others
