Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Tough selection, lots of similarities

Hiroshima I'm seeing waves and flames in this and I like it

Okinawa I like the lightness and the off centred circles of this more than the later

Kochi I feel like this could be a fancy setting nob on a cooker hob :D

    1. Hiroshima looks cheery :)

    2 Okinawa

    3. Kochi the red is too dark for me.

    Group P Standings

    Hiroshima 20
    Kochi 17
    Okinawa 17

Hiroshima tops the group. We now need to see which prefecture goes through along side it. Let's get to the tiebreaker

Kochi - love that shade of deep red
    Okinawa - pleasingly asymmetrical

+1 for Kochi as it's ranked higher but Okinawa gets a good review too.

+ 1 for Okinawa as Kochi is getting negative press.

Another plus for Kochi but there's not too much given. I'll give 0.5 here.

All said and all considered, it's Okinawa taking the final spot.

    Group P Results

    Hiroshima 20
    Okinawa 17

    Kochi 17

That concludes the Group Stage. We now enter the knockout stages as we go into head to head battles. These one on one bouts are for another day though! Take care of yourselves and each other, night y'all.

First Knockout Round commences this evening folks. I'll give a 30 minute warning before we proceed.

On reflection, the Kochi flag looks like it might be a Klingon standard bearer.

    Match 1

    Saitama

    vs

    Kagoshima

Saitama - Kagoshima would have got it as the colours are bolder, but that little piece missing from the crescent is really off-putting.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,339 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Saitama - very unusual design. I might have preferred the Kagoshima flag had the red and black been reversed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

Kagoshima as QB said bolder, that piece missing from the crescent intrigues me. It makes me mark it up rather than down.

Saitama - the other one is an interesting flag, but this one is very pretty with it's wonky yin yangs :)

    Kagoshima-

Saitama - it’s so simple and attractive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,446 ✭✭✭davetherave

Kagoshima- I like it. It's a map of the region with a volcano in the centre. Volcanoes spew out all sorts of magma and lava and stuff. That definitely beats some petals. The black stands out more than the red too.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,266 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

Kagoshima - the black gives it that bit extra. Not much in it otherwise; fairly similar efforts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

cdeb just out of time to tie it up!

    Saitama advances to Round 2

Just had a look at it on a map, that's pretty cool tbh.

Iwate looks kind of mystical, and I love the shade of green

Aichi - I like the background colours of both, so it comes down to the symbols in the middle. I find the rounded symbol on the Aichi flag more pleasing to the eye than the rather spiky one on the Iwate flag.

Not sorry at all, still would have voted for the other one :D

Iwate for me, I like the symbol on the other one but I love the shade of... teal (because maybe it's green, but really I think it is blue ;))

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,553 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    Iwate

It's like a robot doing the "we're not worthy" skit from Wayne's World as it slowly sinks into a lake

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

Aichi - I just prefer the colours

As a side issue Boards is flaking on me a little, when I try and see the next post I get the cloudflare page

Yup, much cooler than some silly petals. This whole contest is a sham and a fraud and a sham. I'm only continuing to participate and contribute in protest :p :pac:

Iwate for this round. Nicer colour for me and you don't often see symmetry on a flag, or I don't anyway, but it is a nice distinctive feature.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87,832 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

    Aichi - emoji like

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,714 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

Aichi - I prefer the colour scheme

Iwate looks like a shrugging emoji by a lake.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Aichi - prettier. I don't like the robot / virus thing in the other.

    Yes as Zaph said Mie

Miyagi , prefer that shade of green :)

Miyagi - nicer shade of green and I'm seeing the lotto ad where the dude in the flats installs water slides for the whole block, 'cause he had to share the 7 million - better than a french horn hogging the always scarce deck chairs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,714 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

Mie - not much to choose between these. Prefer the shade in this one. Though I do think some of these colours would look more natural on an actual flag and be less intense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

Miyagi for me. Looks like a more modern take on the Irish shamrock - presumably it has nothing to do with it at all, but that's what makes me like it all the same

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Miyagi - I like the tripple swish, and it's a nicer background shade.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

    Another tight affair.

    Miyagi advances to Round 2
