Not sure he's a guaranteed starter. Dwight Gayle is there too having been on loan at West Brom. Not added to the game by fpl yet though.

Lot of talk last season about playing BB in the first GW (particularly KM :pac: ). Is anyone going to do it?

Long time admirer of this thread.

Sat watching Newcastle Wolves. Jota with two goals and Jonny with two assists. Both looked very impressive so far. Early days yet but I wouldn’t be going near any Newcastle players.

I had planned to, but I'm struggling to put a team together with a good enough bench to justify it.

Last season you had a couple of 4m playing defenders which made it easier.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Haven't even looked at FPL yet this year. Normally have team picked and changed multiple times!

    I won’t be
    But
After my early WC I will
That’s when I played it a few years back and it worked well
The way I’m likely to set up my squad for first few won’t allow for BB

    Man United 4-0 Leeds

    Greenwood (Wan Bissaka)
    Rashford
    Jones (Pereira)
    Martial (Chong)
What price are we expecting, 7.5/8.0?
    Considering Arnie was 7M - I'm guessing 7-7.5M

That's a much better idea actually. You'd know who is in form then, and what cheap starters are possible.

Is Dominic Calvert-Lewin looking like a fairly nailed on starter? Or are Everton looking to purchase a new striker? He ended the season brilliantly, so hopefully Silva keeps faith in him.

I read somewhere(BBC sport?) that the owner was looking to make a statement signing and name mentioned was Diego Costa.

Seems like 4-5-1/ 4-4-2 or 5-3-2 will be preferred this year due to the defensive assets.

Greenwood at 4.5 is an interesting prospect as a fodder alright.

Danny Rose left out if pre season trip, and was apparently allowed to "explore other clubs". Of course Ben Davies is at bloody 5.5m!

Greenwood will be 4.3 by Christmas. He's 17 there's no way solskjaer will trust him in the PL, Mata Lingard James all ahead of him in the pecking order.

He'll be gone in the first WC most likely. However if a 4.5m striker for a top 6 side is getting decent minutes he offers excellent value to start with in comparison to the other dud's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,976 ✭✭✭Trimm Trabb

Had a look at fixtures today and Chelsea’s really do look good. Think they will get a result v Utd on opening day and their fixtures after that are very nice with Leicester (h), Norwich (a) and Sheff U (h) taking them to the international break - they have a v nice run from weeks 5-12 then too.

If I knew any one of Alonso, Barkley, Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Willian, Giroud or Abraham were nailed I’d be very interested.

Have a suspicion he will start with Abraham over Giroud up top so the fact they haven’t added him to the game is really irritating me. Alonso in a system with wing backs would be nice too, 6.5 is a very generous price for the Alonso we knew pre Sarri. And can see whoever is in that no.8 midfield role having plenty of license to get into the box ala Lampard himself in his playing days. Hudson-Odoi is the one who I think will be nailed and provide great value for 6.0 but he isn’t due back til after GW4 as far as I know so will have to wait on that.

Doing a spread sheet on the opening 4 and 6 fixtures not sure if I will be able to post it but will give the results anyway. I’m using the following as a guide with a 1.25 factor for home and away let me know what you think, highest score has the best fixtures.
MNC, LIV difficultly of 1 (team scores 1.25 if playing them at home/ 0.8 if away)
    ARS,CHE,MUN,THO 5 (6.25 h, 4.00 a)
    EVE, LEI, WOL 8(10h, 6.4a)
    BOU,CPL,WAT,WHU 12 (15h, 9.6a)
    BUR,SOT 15(18.75h, 12a)
    AVI,BRI,NEW,NOR,SHU 20(25h, 16a)
In other words BOU,LIV,THO,WAT, will all score 25 pats on the opening day of the season, while Norwich will have 0.8 and West Ham 1.25
If anyone thinks that the difficulty levels need tweaking let me know.
    Current standings for 4 games:
    ARS 41.8
    AVI 38.6
    BOU 52.25
    BRI 44.15
    BUR 30.4
    CHE 55
    CPL 55
    EVE 50.6

    SOT 35.5
    TOT 54.8
    WAT 62.4
    WHM 51.85
    WOL 44.05
So Watford, Liverpool, Chelsea, Palace, Spurs all good, Burnley, Saints, Sheffield Utd, Villa, Man Utd all bad.
    First 6 Games
    ARS 76.4
    AVI 57.6
    BOU 74.25
    BRI 78.9
    BUR 71.4
    CHE 62.65
    CPL 69
    EVE 85.2
    LEI 55.25

    SOT 66.5
    TOT 76.2
    WAT 69.45

Coleman? Great fixtures and Everton kept 8 out of 11 CS at the end of last season. No zouma is an issue

Haller added at 7.5m bit pricey for me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,685 ✭✭✭sheroman01

Just noticed that Everton are down as a 4 difficulty rating. Although they are improving, I'd have them down as a 3. Just something I'll take caution on when I immediately see red on the fixtures!

With that in mind, Sheffield Utd's opening fixtures are not too bad: BOU (a), CRY (H), LEI (H), CHE (a), SOU(H) and EVE (a). Tempted to punt on McGoldrick at 5.5, if I get wind that Calvert Lewin won't be nailed on.

Is Foyth likely to slot in a RB for Spurs with Trippier gone? And is Angelino a likely starter for City? Surely given they went and signed a specialised LB

With Trips sold we have, Aurier, KWP & Foyth potentially to play RB/RWB.

Foyth played RB a couple of games at the end of the season and also played there for Argentina in the Copa. He cut his summer holidays and honeymoon short to go our tour in Asia with the Spurs squad so I'd expect him to play RB over there as Aurier didn't travel. He picked up a knock in the AFCON. And KWP hasn't been fancied by Poch recently, but is a natural RB and did sign a 5 year deal last year.

Foyth also ott sent off at the end of the PL, which means he is suspended for the first two league games, so no point in having him in your team from the off.

So a wait and see verdict from me.

Foyth can play there. (Has done so for Argentina;I think he's had a few games at RB for Spurs?). Assuming Alderweireld leaves, Vert, Sanchez and at a push Dier are the options for CB. So he's unlikely to be a wing back when they play five at the back. I'd have Aurier ahead of him for the RB slot.

Re signing Angelino suggests that there are questions over Mendy.
Pep gave Angelino some coaching during a water break against WHU in their recent friendly. He'd a tough day at the office. Zinchenko is the one to go for atm.

Lampard on Jorginho: "He became quite a conversation last year. But I’m actually looking at a player who has very much impressed me over the last 10 days. His attitude in training has been first-class. He’s a driver of a session. He’s a voice.”

Hmmmm. Looks a guaranteed starter. Possibly on pens. Was close to having a load of assists last season. Could be playing further forward this year (if Kante moves back to DM). 5m. I'm actually thinking playing a rotating 4.5m 11th player, so if I can squeeze 0.5m more, I'll chance him....maybe.

    Great fixtures as well
And Giroud is too risky now
Defo one to monitor as a fifth mid

And apparently McGoldrick is Sheffield Utd's penalty taker. I can't find proof of this, but if so, it'd be lovely to take a punt on himself (5.5m) and Jorginho (5m)....at least for the first 6 gameweeks.

Any thoughts on who'll start for United between Martial and Sanchez? Serious value there if one of them nails down a starting spot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,036 ✭✭✭Pete_Cavan

There are a few Chelsea players who could be good to own for the early part of this season. Pulisic depending on what role he is used in, one of their CBs if Rüdiger is out for a while and Abraham or Bats if one is first choice and depending on price. Looking at their fixtures, I'll wait two GWs for clarity on some of that before nailing colours to the Chelsea mast.

Hard to argue for Kane with Trippier gone and Eriksen could be on the way out too. That's a serious hole in their creativity. And Kane usually starts slowly anyway

Have been giving serious consideration to starting Jorginho and Noble in a 3-5-2.

Wasn’t there a couple of freak scoring 5m midfielders last year ? Think Kante was one.

I also think whoever doesn’t start the season with a Chelsea midfielder will be transferring one in within 2-3 weeks. There’s serious value to be had in one of them. Hopefully Pedro.

Like I said earlier, better to wait 2-3 weeks and transfer in the right Chelsea player than start with one and possibly have to change. Their opening two games could be tricky anyway.

I'm throwing in Greenwood as my 4.5 fwd. At the worst he loses 0.1 or 0.2 and rots in 3rd position on my bench. At best he gets good minutes and could prove amazing value. It's not like i was expecting much from Vincent Janssen anyway

Finding it very hard to put a draft together.

Salah/Sterling/3 big defenders/decent striker takes up a lot of wedge.

I'm also conscious of a GW2 captain (Salah in GW1, City player GW3-6) as Arsenal have the most (only?) decent fixture of the top 6 clubs. Haven't seen Auba or Laca in many squads, but could be captaincy material home to Burnley.

The thing about Auba, for the price, is how many times will you captain him.

IMO, if you spend 11m+ on a player, you've to be willing to captain him.

Kyle walker Peters has started the match vs Juventus today.

But so has Alderweireld, so that tells us nothing.

Son, Lamela and Alli in midfield and Irish teenager Troy Parrot upfront on his own! 17 years old and up against Buffon.

Mousset signs for Sheffield Utd for £10m.

I have to imagine he's moving to play games.

4.5 ----> 6.0 is a bit barren this year, so that could be a lovely 5.0 enabler if you don't trust Greenwood or Wickham.
