Any idea if Guendozi is a likely starter for Arsenal? Could be a real value at 4.5m if he kicks on from last yr

He'll probably start some games when rotation kicks in but the first choice pairing is likely to be Xhaka/Torreira. They're also rumoured to be signing Ceballos on from RM, he's a CM but we'll have to wait and see what formation Emery starts the season with.

Really think I'm gonna end up squeezing Kane into the starting XI.
Downgrading Laporte/Sterling/Siggy to Zincheko/DeBruyne/Perez gets me to upgrade Jota to Kane.

Had a look at Aguero last night too. Basically you've Aguero + 6.5m or Sterling +6.5 striker. It's amazing how close the 6.5 mids and 6.5 forwards ended up last year (a lot of these changed position)

    6.5m Mids
    Pérez 141
    Redmond 137
    Townsend 135
    Doucouré 124
    Brooks 123

    6.5m Defs
    King 141
    Jota 139
    Deulofeu 133
    Wood 131
    Murray 129

Perez seems the big winner, seeing as he now is a mid, in a higher scoring team.

Also reiterates the value in the 6.5m defender range - all of these beat any of the mids/fwds last year
    van Dijk 208
    Laporte 177
    David Luiz 164
    Alonso 161
    Azpilicueta 158
    Digne 158
    Walker 150
    Pereira 146
    Doherty 144

Some good stats, except a 6.5 def is the equivalent of a 7.0 mid or fwd (because of 4.0 def bench fodder as opposed to 4.5)

Even subscribing to that theory there's still no 7m forwards getting on that list.

    Also, I'll have a 4m Def fodder and a 4.5m Def/Mid fodder regardless which was I go.

It looks like Mané is gonna be back earlier than expected.

Liverpool have confirmed Sadio Mané will return to the club on August 5, after the Community Shield final against Manchester City.

Klopp: "Sadio is in good shape. He is now on holiday, not the longest one. He will be back on August 5, after the Man City game. That means he had 2 weeks. There is 4 or 5 days to prepare for Norwich, 10 days for Chelsea [UEFA Super Cup]."

But there is £6.5m forwards(and Perez/Tielemans in midfield) worth considering as opposed to 6m defenders. I'm not arguing against a strong defense, in fact i put forward the idea of a 5 man defense early on. I'd go so far as to say 2 of VVD/TAA/Robertson + Laporte is almost a must starting out. It's after that where you have genuine dilemmas between defenders and mids/forwards.

I think my problem last year was I had Richarlison, Maddison and Barkley (don't ask) all at the same price. Once one of them stops firing, if there's nobody else at that price, you need to make 2 changes to change. I can see a lot of people getting "stuck" at the 6.5m zone this year. If a Son or Vardy goes nuts it'll be a lot of changes to fit them in.

Well I guess that's where having Salah and Sterling means you have to have some cheaper attackers(assuming you have a few premium defenders). 2 transfers isn't the biggest deal though. You just don't want to be doing it all the time

He’s still with Man United so if that rumoured move to Sheffield United goes through he’ll be added and probably at 4.5.

Waiting for him myself hoping for a magical 4.0 starter. Already three keepers in the game for United I doubt he'll be added until he moves or appears on the bench.

Palace's team last Friday, lost 1-0 to Forest. On paper, seems to be close to their starting 11, besides keeper possibly. 4m Kelly plays as well as 6m Benteke.

Hennessey, Van Aanholt, Dann, Kelly, Ward, Meyer, Milivojevic, McArthur, Townsend, Schlupp, Benteke.

Newcastle have signed highly-rated Brazilian striker Joelinton. He could be a good pick-up later in the season when I expect Bruce to have either been sacked or resigned.

Hmmm probably priced right but I was hoping for a 6 or 6.5 for Abraham. I guess neither are really an option until one becomes nailed on which could take a while as Lamps will probably want to allow both a chance to stake their claim.

Cant help feel that this big at the back is a bit of a trap this early in the season.

Very very hard to jump off to a premium forward/mid

    Very interesting
    http://twitter.com/roneildinho/status/1153574966803218433

    Klopporama has always said this
Doesn’t want a strong bench as it’s only a headache
It’s food for thought no doubt
I’ll be going with one starting keeper anyway
    It’s juts a question of whether it’s a 4.5 or 5.5
Not sure I can afford the extra million

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,046 ✭✭✭Pete_Cavan

I don't consider having a couple of decent playing options on the bench a headache. I enjoy picking my starting team each week, although perhaps I am alone in that. I take comfort in knowing that I have a decent 4.5 defender who can do a job. I generally go with 3 at the back so he can either come in for a defender or go to 4 at the back depending on fixtures, injuries, suspensions, etc. The 0.5 is worth it for the flexibility imo.

I also don't get the set and forget keeper. 2 x 4.5 = 9 with the benefit of (most) being able to avoid the big teams. Set and forget means you spend more on keepers or you go with a 5 starting keeper, none of whom I'd want to be relying on 100%. You are also only an injury away from having to use a transfer just to be able to field a playing keeper. There is always great value to be had in the 4.5 keepers, it's just hard to know who they are at the start of the season.

I don't think he's saying don't have a decent bench. By all means have a 4.5m defender who came come in in case of injury/suspension just not someone you'd play by choice each week.

The problem with rotating gks is that the seemingly good fixture doesn't always turn out that way. You play the one with the good fixture, he gets two points. The one you bench goes to Old Trafford, keeps an unlikely clean sheet, gets a load of save points and ends up with a 12 pointer. That's the worse case scenario but it's happened me before and has caused frustration and that may have impacted my decisions after that. Went with a set and forget last season and I was much happier with it.

I'll end up with those 2 I reckon.
But first I'll have 15(hopefully) starters for gw2/3 and bb.

I usually wc over international break and that's when I'll have Ryan/Button.

Maybe I am misinterpreting this. I took "no 4.5 rotating DEFs" to mean have a set back 4/3 and 1/2 4.0 on the bench. Why spend the extra 0.5 on a defender if you have no intention of using them?

Things don't always work out the way you planned, that's part and parcel of the game. Personally, I'd rather take that chance rather than spend the same or more budget on a set and forget keeper who will no doubt cause similar disappointment at some stage and be an injury away from fielding 10 players.

Angelino has been very poor during preseason so I feel it's Zinchenko's spot to lose while Mendy is out injured.

    Heres a shot

    4.5m playing keeper

VVD, Azpilicueta, Dunk, Lascelles (or some other 4.5m def)

    Salah Sterling Moura Jorghinho

    Kane Vardy

    4m non playing keeper
4m defender (Kelly of palace looks best option)
    Dedonker
    Greenwood

Take out Salah and put in Auba instead and it gives you a good captain option every week:

    Ryan(or other 4.5)
    TAA Robertson Coleman Zinchenko
    Tielemans Perez Sterling
    Kane Auba Jota

    Not bad

I'm thinking something along the lines of:

    2 x 4.5 keepers
TAA Zinchenko Zouma Diop Kelly (CP)
    Sterling Mané Moura Yarmo Guendouzi
    Kane Wilson 4.5 striker

Moura is a three week punt, can change to Pulisic/Martial depending on form. Alternatively I could go with Lucas Perez from the start and spend the extra 1.0 elsewhere.

Downgrading Wilson would also allow for upgrades elsewhere. Wilson to Abraham allows Yarmo to become Perez and Moura become Siggy.

He's on holiday now but back with the squad this weekend I believe. He probably won't start GW1 but should be there for GW2. Salah requires too much downgrading elsewhere and trying to get Mané in later will be a nightmare, best just to start with him.
