So in some interview, Dre said that he's been working on some songs for................Detox!

    Will it happen this year?

  • Registered Users Posts: 727 ✭✭✭Muirshin Durkin

“I asked Dr. Dre if Detox is permanently shelved and he replied, ‘I’m working on a couple songs right now. We’ll see,'” Haynes’ tweet reads.

Regional rap sounds are apparently a thing again. People are starting to cop you shouldn't all sound like you're from Atlanta.

    Here's some Milwaukee ish.

Black Milk has announced that he's finished recording his new album called Fever, should be out this year.

    There's a studio snippet available

I'm interested to see how this goes, I like when producers bring in live musicians and direct them like what's in this video. Plus the drums sound real interesting.

And here's a single I found from it
    https://soundcloud.com/massappealrecs/black-milk-laugh-now-cry-later

    Very interesting indeed.

Song from Grieves, not for the roll-out of a new album though sadly, just a gift ahead of the Euro leg of his tour

A bit of a different sound, I kinda dig it.

There were a few releases last Friday that I plan to check out:
    Evidence - Weather or Not
Ghostface Killa & Apollo Brown - The Brown Tape
    Migos - Culture II

For some reason im starting to like some trap artists and some of the newer stuff which is weird as i was strictly 90's boom bap or west coast sound up until now..

I'm coming around to it as well, like I enjoyed that 2 Chains album last year, I like that Post Malone song (is that trap) and that Gucchi Gang song is catchy as begorrah.
A load of it sounds the same though to me.

Lil Uzi Vert & Young Thug both very good artists.

New Evidence and Payroll Giovanni are very good.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,734 Mod ✭✭✭✭Boom_Bap

Yeah I've checked out most of Evidence and I was nodding along, I think it's far more rounded than his last album which was good as well.

Here's a mixtape from B.Dolan, some nice little mash-ups on it.

I like that new Migos album and also some of the Lil Uzi Vert stuff.. Ya and i like Post Malone as well.

Im a house/techno producer with a Hip Hop background and i cant wait to make some trap for some reason.. Maybe a mid life crisis!

Im not sure what to make of XXXTentacion but im listening to all of it with an open ear and an open mind. Also like the sound of Rae Sremmurd.. Anyway great to have so much dope tracks to listen to right now with all my new discoveries.

Another song from the Black Panther soundtrack - The Wknd and Kendrick

    It's alright on first listen

I've loved rnbish trap music for years but it's verrrry hit and miss. Needed to find the right curators because it's not an album medium. Migos a prime example critics push the idea constantly but they're singles artists. Best full length of the 2010s is still Tha Tour Pt. 1.

Young Thugs set last summer was stupidly good his voice is incredible if he hasn't done a live album yet he should cos that autotunes flattening so much.

I need to to go to more gigs. Or Dublin promoters need to book more contemporary rap for actual venues rather than support acts in the O2 and festivals for 17 year olds who can't handle their drugs. I don't even mind kids but they were tossing glass bottles in the air and ****.

Anyone listen to the Drink Champs podcast on Itunes? Actually quiet good.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,734 Mod ✭✭✭✭Boom_Bap

    Really like that Nipsey/Kendrick song.

Never listened to that podcast, for Hip Hop i listen to Joe Budden, Juan Ep/Rosenberg, Super Duty Tough Work and Combat Jack (RIP)

I probably have enough on my plate!

  • Does Joe Budden make music anymore?
Last stuff I heard from him was that Slaughterhouse Album

Nope, he talks about being retired all the time. But there are exceptions, if SlaughterHouse come calling and want to record something new and there is one person that ever releases a diss track about him, he will fire back. He doesn't name that person though.
It's thought to be Drake, but Drake recently said some stuff in one of those new tracks he released, but Joe didn't see it as a diss.

Last year he was on a daily web show on Complex called Everyday Struggle, he left just before Christmas and there was some hoopla around it. But there have been a few things thought to be disses and some blatant ones. Vic Mensa has said some stuff in a freestyle, and Migos made a diss track and video about him.

Oh....there is apparently a shelved SlaughterHouse album as well that he has threatened to release a couple of times.

I watch everyday struggle its a bit sh*t since joe left.. Akademiks is such a lick arse.. lets on to be all about the artists but in fact just trying to get himself out there as much as possible..

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,734 Mod ✭✭✭✭Boom_Bap

I've grown to like Ak, and f*ck it, he was given a bigger platform so why not try to sell himself a little more :)
It's definitely not as good since Joe left. Star just keeps asking the same question on every subject and then likes to talk about having a concealed firearm permit.
Although, there is some stuff about Snoop bubbling from him, I'd like to hear more about that.
