Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thursday/Friday Snow Potential

14-12-2011 11:48am#1Right as it would seem the storm system predicted 3 days ago is looking like trailing through the channel perhaps impacting the south English coast with high winds.
However the result of this is to move a large band of precipitation over the UK and a portion of precip is expected to affect some parts of the southern half of Ireland.
It is possible there could be a period of prolonged snow for those inland of the east coast during Thursday night.

Thereafter it will be cold and frosty from Friday through the weekend with harsh frosts and the possibility of some more snow showers particularly in the north.15

It's almost set in stone for something white to fall but I wouldn't rule out a change yet :P
Any more movement south on the system will more than likely result in showery conditions and only the extreme south getting a doucing.0 -

Looks like Dublin is going to miss out on the white stuff. Hopefully it changes slightly
It's a lose lose for Dublin really, the further north the precip goes, the probability of stronger east winds increases and therefore more chance of rain!
Lets hope we can find a mid-point with offshore winds.0 -

I see from that UKMO video, where he mentions heavy snow for Wales, if you look a few frames before, you can see the same symbols/hatch pattern for the east coast of Ireland (Dublin and Wicklow anyway).
A dump of snow would be satisfactory compensation for not having a storm! 0 -

Give it until the next GEFS run at 9.30pm before getting too excited, Karen. The positioning of the low pressure system heading from our south toward the english channel is key. If it shifts any further south then the snow potential will also shift south. If it tracks further north then better again. Ultimately, the intensity and longevity of any precipitation also remains uncertain. Either way, parts of the country deprived of snowfall for 12 long months are in their best position to see snowfall yet this winter.
Just hang on to your hats for another GEFS run or two I say.0 -

Not looking good for Donegal then Would you be able to tell me how many meters Buncrana is asl? Thanks Donegal gets good coverage but not so much here in Buncrana .. Even Derry seems to do better than us weather wise and thats only 14 miles away. Snow dance continuing 0
