Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thinking of using the GoMo SIM in a wifi router. I have very low internet usage so should never come close to the 80gb "limit".

I have a Huawei B525 router which is not currently tied to any network. Is there anything I need to consider with this approach or should it work out of the box?

    Thanks - AZ
Put it in a phone first to remove the SIM pin. After that then it should be just a matter of popping it in the router.

I use mine in a router with no issues. I enter the pin in the admin page (192.1.1 etc whatever it is) I have mine bookmarked as I can never remember it.

We usually reach the limit by the end of the month so the last day or two we have terribly slow internet so we just hot spot from our phones if needed then.

But we have gone from €45 and up a month for eir mobile broadband to a set 9.99 a month so its a great saving for the exact same service.

Just moved a second SIM to GoMo without a hitch.. Got the GoMo SIM in early dec and used it in a router for relatives home from abroad over Christmas.

Ported my Vodafone number (one of a multi-line) to it without issue today [during business hours] - was only out of service for the length of time it took me to swap sims when Vodafone signal wend dead.
    • Calls incoming and outgoing working very well.
    • Data is as fast as Vodafone was in my location.
    • SMS all good too

    Another happy camper.

check your junk/spam email folder. mine was sitting there

The offer is still open until tomorrow.

If they don't extend it then it effectively ends today...

This is the last chance to get all calls, all texts and all data for €9.99 a month for life with GoMo. It is confirmed that a new but also limited time mobile offer will launch early on the morning of Wednesday 15th
    January.

4G can have real world speeds of 130Mbps or more although gomo doesn't come close to this but it is possible as Vodafone do.
If gomo can't come close to maxing 4G speeds how important is 5G to you?
What kind of speed do you need? Does 5G have other advantages that are not related to speed?

Lower latency and higher capacity. :)

I don't care too much about 5G myself, but I'm sure there were also people a few years ago who asked why people care so much if their mobile network will include 4g for free in their plan considering how fast 3G currently is, it's all relative. :)

Dumb question am on a rolling 30 day contract sim only with eir.

If I apply for Gomo before the deal ends and select my porting date for say 33 days time then call eir to serve my 30 day notice, I should ok right?

Suppose I could cancel eir first, get my last day with them date and apply to Gomo with that for the porting date?

Heard good and bad things about gomo, just hope I get the good and seamless transfer!

In some cases if you give eir your 30 days notice Eir delete your number on the 30th day and then it fails to port on the 33rd day.

I'd move to prepay with Eir and then to Gomo or just don't tell Eir at all and take your number without saying anything.

Got my sim today but getting Edge on the network.
And no way it's connecting to YouTube for example.
    Is this a bad sign.
Any advice as to what I can do with it.

Have you tried turning it off and on again ?

😀 Not sure if sarcastic but yeah. Tried searching automatically for network and manually connecting to Eir 3g network. Still get Edge. Or occasionally H with no bars (still no YouTube etc).
Are there data settings.i need to put in manually

    Where are you based?
Check here if there is a mast nearby
    https://siteviewer.comreg.ie/

It's not showing roaming is it?

    Maybe this is the problem.
Do I need to import APN settings

Can I order a sim today and port my number later? Or do you have to click "keep my number" when ordering in order to port your number at a later date?

I'm going purchasing the sim card now but going to decide when to port at a later date when i receive the sim card.

Can i just purchase a new sim/new number or do i have to enter my current number and have it validated now to port in the future?

    Try this
I set up 2 SIMS today for my parents and I had to update settings to get mobile data working

delete the data access point and create a new profile with these settings (everything else as default).

    APN: data.mymeteor.ie
    Username: my
    Password: wap
    Authentication Type: PAP
    APN Protocol: IPv4
    APN Type: default,supl

Hey I have question regarding the fix €10 for 30 days charge.

I did some reading and I think I got this info but I would still prefer a second opinion.

Let's say you are within your 30 day contract, and you travel abroad. With prepay services, what you top is what you'll get, meaning there won't be any extra charges, the service either continues or stops.

What about GoMo? If you're abroad you suddenly get distracted by thing you haven't seen in a really long time, like the sun, and forget to turn off the SIM card, could you potentially rack up some serious charges? Do they have a permission to charge your card or is the contract fixed and your SIM card will simply stop working?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,669 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

You have free calls/texts abroad (in Europe) and 10Gb data usage (so use wifi where possible if you're a youtube addict)
Anything above your data usage or outside Europe usage will be charged at their normal rates which can be found on their website (tho if you are outside Europe it's always cheaper to buy a local sim)
This is par for the course for every single provider - remember this is billpay not PAYG, so you can rack up additional charges if not careful

I believe GoMo cap the additional charges at Eur 30 so your max bill can't be more than Eur 39.99. The downside of this being that your service is suspended until the end of the billing period should you reach the max spend of Eur 39.99.

Edit: Apparently it is the out of bundle use only that they suspend.

True and a very good policy to boot

    Thank you. That's excellent.

EDIT: I just read this nice article: https://goosed.ie/gomo-whats-the-catch/

It says that 30 euro is for when you miss your payment. You can miss it three times and then you can call them, pay and reactivate the account. I haven't been able to find the max cap for addition charges in their terms and conditions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,627 ✭✭✭Gooser14

The info is in their FAQs under Usage and Connection Issues:

    "Why can't I make a chargeable call?
We have an out of bundle cap of Eur 30. This means you can spend up to Eur 30 on charges that are not included in your bundle. This includes Premium Rate Services such as 1890/1850 numbers, any non-standard text messages, roaming over the EU cap, roaming outside the EU and international calls and texts. We have this limit to protect our customers. If you cannot make a chargeable call you may have reached this limit. You will not be able to incur any more out of bundle charges until after your next billing date."

Just an update for anybody that is on Three and they price matched with GoMo at €10 a month...

I logged into my account and the discount had not been applied, I requested this 2 months ago!

Got back onto Three today and they said that it would now be added to my account, Just wait and see now if they actually do honour it!

Has anybody else had the same issue? Just keep an eye on your accounts!

Is it an iPhone, they are some of the only phones that can be unlocked automatically. Connect it to a PC with iTunes open and it should be unlocked within a minute, although you could leave it connected for an hour or so just to be safe.

they are 2 brand new samsungs both from vodafone last september for my son and daughter..the sims had over 300 euro each spent on them,so according to vodafones own unlocking charter they should have been unlocked pretty fast..when i did my own phone back when gomo launched vodafone unlocked it in 10 mins
