Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Several units of the Dublin Fire Brigade are dealing with a serious fire at a hotel in Ballymun.

The blaze is several storeys up in the Metro Hotel.

It is believed to have started shortly after 7.30pm.

It is not yet known if the rooms were occupied at the time the blaze started.

Gardaí are also at the scene and traffic diversions are in place around the area.

    Metro Hotel?

Yep the metro. Its where that plane tried to land years ago instead of the airport. Extremely high. Used to live in the apartments facing the carpark and entrance to it. Had a nice restaurant back then

Nothing on RTE. You’d think they could get an ob there.

They should have as the flats went to 14 floors.

    From The Journal

"It’s understood that the building had been evacuated, however this has yet to be confirmed by the emergency services."

    Hopefully accurate

    Hope all residents are safe.

Has the fire jumped a couple of floors?

apparently it's not spreading too badly, so not in the same league as Grenfell thankfully.

    Airport could close.

    That’s still not a ob. It’s a video from a tweet.

That brings back memories of last summer's Grenfell- sends a shiver up the back.
Hope there's no-one hurt and that the firemen on-site stay safe.

From the video footage it looks like the fire hoses can't reach the fire at that height. I suppose they'll be sending firemen in to tackle this one. Good luck to them all.

    What a bizarre comment.

    Not really.

Are people just foaming at the mouth to blame da gubberment?

Loads of tweets from various political members going on about emergency accommodation families.

What about other people in the hotel?

That's what confused me, like saying there is a mother of five on whatever floor.
    Grandfather of many else where.

Presumably they'll have homes to go back to whereas the homeless families will have to source another place to live and homeless accommodation is scarce in Dublin at the moment. Just a guess like.

And will possibly have lost all their belongings unlike the guests or staff

Could be single homeless men and women too?

But families are more juicy for the outrage.
