Think it's going to be an interesting couple of weeks. Lots of twists and turns. Election will be a lot closer than many seem to think.

Take the challenge then! Fill out your electoral college choices, and see what number you come up with. However you choose the swing states, share with the thread.

Twitter has guidelines on coronavirus misinformation. They've been enforcing them for months.

Are you not concerned that the US president's very own coronavirus adviser is spreading misinformation about coronavirus?

I mean that's pretty f*cked up like. Do you not think so?

I've had people argue to me with a straight face that twitter was not a private company.

Trump is gone, the wind has changed at the wrong time for him. I think he'll lose by 7-8 points.

but what misinformation are we talking about here, I doubt they were blaming the jews or chemtrails. Theres a lot of debate about what is the best information for covid , there are advisors who will disagree, doesn't make it misinformation, but twitter have decided what they believe on it and everything else is false.

private companies do not have 1st amendment rights.

They are protected by section 203 of the comms act. 1996. But that may be about to end. If Twitter/Facebook edit what users see that makes them publishers. And thus lose their protection.

Think of it like a book store. If the store just sells books they wont be held liable for anything in the books only the publishers will be, But if the book stores start editing the books, they are now publishers and thus liable.

Trump is setting out legalisation on this.

We are dealing with idiocracy now.

Ordinarily nutcases like Rudi wouldn't be anywhere near the levers of power.

This is a dumbed down world now where effing idiots get to decide who is in charge. The consequences of putting unfit people in positions of power you only get away with for so long. Eventually the insanity filters down in to real world consequences.

It's a consequence of the retarding of education, the retarding of critical thinking skills, and the rise of social media/biased tv that places these people in our societies in bubbles of conspiracy theory, derangement, debasement, and outright lies. Science and experts are ignored and ridiculed.

It's extremely alarming for the future.

Carl Sagan in one of his books predicted all this before his death with frightening accuracy. Can't think off the top of my head which one it was.

It is a stage every decaying empire go through. The world just got smaller so more people see it.

Welcome to the USA. The best democracy money can buy.

He claimed masks don't work. This is absolutely untrue and is misinformation. It's incredibly irresponsible and further encourages idiots to not wear masks. It's a pretty disturbing sign of his knowledge on the subject and it's far from a political attack to remove such idiocy.

If the laptop is real (it seems to be) then it is not stolen. It became the property of the repair shop after service ordered was not paid for.

Yep, the US is a failed state. And i hate to tell everyone but neither Biden or Trump will fix it. Will probably only get worse.

They are not editing the book in your analogy - they are simply deciding not to stock it.

It is problematic to say what is misinformation since covid info is changing literally every day.
HCQ was miracle until it was not and then there it was again only till it wasnt again. Same happened with Remdesivir. Even now vaccines which were said is the only thing to allow us to get back to normal happens to be offering only a chance of lessening the symptoms and will not address infection or offer any immunity.

If they adapt or censor anything they are publishers,

Not a perfect analogy but I think folks get the idea.

Here's a lawyer explaining it, does a better job than me.

I was unaware of that detail, fair enough, not stolen, but if the store owner is to be believed (he isn')t, Giuliani doesn't have the laptop, he just has a hard drive the store owner alleges is a copy. A laptop dropped off by someone he can't identify and whose identity he can't prove. The chain of evidence is broken. Digital data can be faked unless it's heavily encrypted or signed, but that isn't the case as people claim they have access to the contents.
Isaac eventually reported his possession of the laptop to the FBI at some point in 2019. The FBI took possession of the device through a federal subpoena, but because Isaac had legal rights as the possessor of the device, he made a hard drive backup of the laptop’s contents.

He then took the information from the laptop to Utah Senator Mike Lee and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Giuliani reported the contents to the New York Post, which led to the recent bombshell report on its contents.
    https://www.lawenforcementtoday.com/computer-repairman-who-exposed-biden-emails-claims-that-the-fbi-told-him-to-stay-quiet-about-it/

So Giuliani doesn't have the laptop and never did, he has a hard drive that could as easily just be a copy of one which was the creation of a GRU intern which was dropped off at the store by anyone. And lo and behold, Steve Bannon is involved, a proven liar and disinfomationist.

This story has an odour reminiscent of a two week old stranded whale carcass.

Let's face it. Trump is not doing anything about it. The only thing he is doing is using the Twitter service more than any of us.

And that analogy is all wrong.

You only support their biased moderation because it impacts those whose political views you don't align yourself with. If conservatives bought the company and suddenly started treating refusing to allow the posting of links from the NYT and WaPo, you'd be doing a 180 quick smart. You're not fooling anyone with this pretense that your position is based on your respect for the US Constitution either. Sure we see how little regard you have for it on other threads.

It's not a political view that the post was removed for.. it was misinformation on safe practises during a pandemic. It really shows the stupidity that has taken off, trying to politicize mask wearing during a pandemic...
