This can be useful for anyone travelling to US or Australia, France and Spain etc.

I recently picked up this:

You can also get this from Amazon or Argos (UK) or other ebay sellers.

I was travelling to US but wasnt sure if it will work or not or worse the sim will activate or not outside UK. Anyway took a chance and ordered one of these.

Got it delivered in Dublin. Popped into my dual sim phone and within a minute the sim was active and data was on.

Landed in US and straight away it connected to AT&T from the airport and the data was on.

So no worry about the roaming charges on my other bill pay sim.

Tip: If you are travelling to US connect to AT&T and not T-Mobile. OK the speed is not great, I am mostly getting Edge, rarely 3g but its doing the job for me. Especially for checking maps where to go and to book Uber taxis and some messaging etc.

Worth having a £10 sim with 3gb data which is more than sufficient. You can also get 12gb preloaded sim if you need more data.

It's valid for 90days. After that you can topup, not sure how. I would rather buy another sime when travelling next time.

Is it valid for 90 days from the time you buy it or from the time you first put it into a device?

Valid from when you first put in device. I got the 12 gb, as seems great value as it is valid for 12 months.

It's a "broadband / data" sim so you put it in a mifi, router, dongle etc. Of course if you wanted to put it in a phone you could tether too.

So 12GB with Three IRL in US would cost €60k instead of £25 with this deal, crazy crazy prices they charge.

I contacted three Ireland regarding this, they said the bill will be capped at €50,
So basically I get 10mb before I get cut and not able to do anything.

£25 with 12gb for 12 months seems a good deal.

I got one of the 12gb ones a while back, but could never get the data working. When I log into the 3.co.uk account I can see the SIM is active, allowance expires late July 2017, and there is 12gb of data there, but I cannot get data to work for some reason

I'm going to the US in a few weeks so would really like this to work.

Make sure you have data roaming turned on with your phone, if your using the phone in Ireland it will need roaming active as it's a UK SIM card.

Ya, I have. Everything on the account is right, and the phone allows roaming. I have a dual sim phone (one plus 2) but can't connect. On to support now to see if they can help, but he has only told me what I know so far.

It is broadband only but its not restricted to dongle, i can be put in phone and used as internet device.

12 gig of internet for 25 quid with 12 months expiry. Whats not to like?

I call into the first Walmart or Best Buy when in the states and get a 30day voice/data sim for around $28, it's guaranteed coverage and I just pop into my phone and away I go, great for coupon apps in the shops

Well it isn't working for me in my phone. I've ordered a free three UK phone sIM online anyhow (pay for parcel motel delivery) so I'll top that up instead and try that out.

Seems you can use it in your phone but for data only. No calls & no texts. Tethering is allowed apparently.

Alternative use it in a tablet, dongle or portable hotspot

My Three UK SIM (voice and data) was blocked from use outside the UK as I'd used it twice over 60 days without it connecting to the home network in between.... Something to bear in mind if you are thinking of topping it up. Can only use it now in the UK.

Yes. I am using voice calls over WhatsApp all the time.

On AT&T you have to:
- Buy Sim for $10
- $25 for 2GB of data

All excluding tax, so about $40 for 2gb data.

Ordering a Three data sim for £25 with 12GB of data, having it delivered to Ireland, set it up in the comfort of your own home, work right off the plan in US and no need to go looking for a walmart/bestbuy. Oh and it will continue to work for a whole year, in case you happen to travel to other countries in the 12 months, seems much easier and much better value for money to me.

I combine one of these Three data sims, plus the free call/text roaming of Lyca when travelling to the US. Yes, this requires two phones (old one works fine) or a dual sim phone,but still very straight forward and easy IMO.

Only thing is Three know when your streaming abroad and they hammer it, so its quiet slow.
But for browsing etc its fine.
I had mine in france during the summer setup as a hotspot and worked great for backing up photos and browsing on other devices.
And you only get 3G abroad.

I am using a dual sim phone too (one plus two) with all roaming on, data set to that sim and the setting sin the 3 account all allow roaming, but was told it can't be used in a phone after contacting support, although they usually know fúck all in reality. When I turn the SIM on I can see it gets a signal, but have never been able to get data working on it, whether I connect it manually to a 3 Ireland network or else select auto connect.

Do you need to setup or choose a different APN to get it working?

Not sure whats wrong with your card and what the support is saying is not right.

As I said, before leaving Dublin, I put the sim in my Onplus 3 phone. Got the APN setting for Three UK automatically, didnt do anything manual.

The same settting working here in US connected to AT&T without any issue.

Check if you have Three UK APN setting in your phone.

I'm guessing that given john4321's phone is a dual sim phone, that the APN isn't set for the data sim. Dual SIM phones can be tricky to get working properly as the dual sim aspect causes a lot of extra complexity.

I think if you use it constantly in Ireland, without going to the UK, they cut you off.

For low data users, Lyca mobile have an excellent deal, topup by €5 and you get 5GB of free data. 3G only for now.

I noticed I had trouble streaming audio here with a Three UK SIM. I did read that using the Three UK data aboard, the traffic is VPN'd back to the UK. You're also assigned a UK IP address. With that VPN overhead, it's no wonder things are slower and they probably apply some throttling as well. Not sure if that is still the case but I'd guess so.

I get about 7Mb/s on Lyca on 3g at home. Which really is plenty for mobile services. And the comment was about a service suited to light data users.

I'm based in the UK but back in Ireland a lot. Have a dual sim phone so use the 3 sim for data and a separate one for calls.

One thing I've noticed is a big drop off in download speed once I get back to Ireland. Current 9 Mbps download (from London). Will update when I get over to Dublin this weekend.

is there anything like this in Ireland, where you can buy a fixed amount of data and it lasts all year without expiring, instead of having to top up every month.

Feel Like Home is only allowed to be used outside UK 2 months a year and as is throttled heavily ,
You wont be able to stream video properly , Audio (Tunein/RTE Radio Player etc.)streams barely work.
BTW I have used it in the USA , France , Spain , Ireland and Israel and it is great for Social Media, Skype/Facebook Video calls and WhatsApp Audio calls

Thats exactly what it is for. Its great to have it when travelling to keep in contact with everyone, checkout maps, local information etc.

It's a life saver for me for getting Uber taxis while in US. I dont need to worry about where I am going, I know that I can get a taxi back to my hotel no matter what time and where I am.

You unfortunately will not be able to use your existing data allowance, instead you will need to buy a relevant data add-on in order to use your mobile data.

This is a roaming sim, different to the standard plan which is €15 and you get this following

Maybe someone can come along and clear it up, why would they offer 3GB and call it a roaming sim card ?
