Oh chryst G, how are you feeling now? I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope you're recovering well.

Feeling tired still and sore, but happy to be home in one piece. Not to sure
I have totally processed whole thing yet.

I'm not at all surprised. Mind yourself in the coming weeks, plenty of rest and rehydration on the cards I'd imagine.

Hope you're feeling ok now and are recovering well. Also, I hope you're not put off running for life!
I think understanding what went wrong first step, I know where never 100%
But don't think I was even close, so really pushed to hard for to long, and
had no other stratagy but stay with pacer, so bad planning, think I will
have to take another crack but will take a bit of time to think.

Jaysis. I heard things hadn't gone well for you but I was expecting that the calf injury was the culprit. Didn't expect to read that. Take it easy G. Give yourself plenty of recovery time and you'll be back. You deserved much better after that training.

Jaysus that sounds like a scary experience, glad you're on the mend. Get the body right and take it easy for a while

Not sure you made any mistakes tbh . The injury arrived at the worst time for you having completed the training , you were flying up to then.

Yesterday was a warm day which wouldn't have helped either .

Once your ok is all that matters really . Take care

Was awful sorry to read updates yesterday as you ended up in medical tent. Absolutely frightening and hope you are ok. Some shock for you all so hope yourself and G are both ok.

Continue obviously to rest and take care over the next few weeks.

Said it yesterday but will repeat as after a super block of training it shows what a beast the marathon is and how important it is to be properly hydrated. Sorry you had to learn the hard way. Xx

Give yourself time to process and take it very easy G.

You scared the life out of us all yesterday... Reading your report and talking to you, dehydration was definitely a big part of it.

So glad you got home ok, mind yourself.

Wow - I know you told us most of this yesterday but looks far scarier now that it's written down! Looks like you overheated, G, pure and simple. It was not a day to not be taking on water, but the injury had thrown you and you probably made some poor decisions as a result. As I said yesterday, you're joining a list of excellent runners who've had the back of the ambulance experience. Not making light of it, it must have been very upsetting and we were all so relieved when you finally appeared. Had you nominated an emergency contact and did anyone call?

Chalk it up. First thing is to get yourself back to normal and let the injury heal. Such an unlucky week for you. But it will probably make you stronger in the end!

Glad you're recovering and back writing sonnets :D.

Seriously though, mind yourself. All that good training will still be in the legs when you're read,y so enjoy some R&R in the meantime.

Main thing is that you're ok.

You were obviously badly dehydrated, if you're prone to perspiring heavily you should consider taking a salt tablet as part of your fuelling strategy. I hate running in heat, sweat like fook and used to find those salt tablets brilliant.

    Speedy recovery

    TbL

Jaysus G that sounds horrendous and scary.
Take it easy and give yourself every chance to fully recover.

Jesus Kenny, glad you're OK. I had a very prolonged stay in the med tent post DCM once, I was an absolute mess. So I half know how you're feeling. Just take it easy, and don't worry about processing it just yet. Glad you're being looked after.

That sounds awful! Poor you! So sorry that happened after all your training. Also, sorry I had Mrs KennyG out late last night - we didn't know what had happened!! Hope you're all ok - I've been that wife getting the back-of-the-ambulance call and its so scary! Get well soon!

Wasn't expecting that report, had assumed the calf played up. Very frightening experience for you. You weren't the only one it happened to, shows how the heat can really affect the body without us realising. Rest up and recover well, then plan your revenge!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,119 ✭✭✭Mrs Mc

G was so worried about ya we were getting running commentaries from home and when you went missing we assumed the owl calf but Jaysus you were through the horrors. I am so gutted for you after the solid training you did but you are up there with the likes of killerz who lives to tell the tale of a similar situation. Rest up and take it handy .... Glad to see you are on the mend see ya soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 743 ✭✭✭Ferris B

I think a number of factors conspired to create that perfect storm... heat, insufficient water, warm clothing, not enough sleep, increased pain levels, gels with no water...

Each on their own are possibly manageable, but all mixed up together are hard to deal with.

You had us concerned for a while. Rest up and we'll see you soon.

PS We're clubbing together to buy you a pair of 4" split shorts.:D

That sounds like one seriously rough day at the office G, was waiting for your report and was concerned that things had maybe not gone well. For my two cents I think maybe your effort levels were higher than should have been due to the calf injury and heat, the calf sounds like it will need a bit of tlc. Getting to mile 18 in those conditions is fair going there but there is doubt your really exhausted everything you had in you! I am glad to hear you are okay, take some time to get right again and look forward to meeting you at a race soon. You have a great block of training behind you and when you are back fighting fit you will have some good gains off that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,388 ✭✭✭laura_ac3

Can't offer anything different to what's already been said but sorry to hear about how it went, you must have got a shock. Time to rest up and get yourself fully recovered, plenty of time after to plot your next challenge and lots to take away once you've had a chance to recover. Take care

You nailed the training and deserved a much better result than that, to say the least. Scary stuff, glad you're okay.

Thanks for all well wishes, physio booked for tomorrow to get leg looked
at, and will take it from there. Achilles swollen and bruised, calf still sore
so hopefully will get better idea tomorrow where leg is at.
